    Hey Jeremy, nice video !
    Just sayin' : you don't need to draw wall when performing a passive survey. Walls are only needed when doing design (when you want to plan how many APs you will need to cover an area still under construction for example, when you only have floor plans). But as I always tell to my customers : do not rely only on design, please let me make an AP-On-A-Stick survey as soon as it is possible inside the building. It will be way more accurate to determine position and number of APs needed to cover the area.

    Nice video..which software you are using and what is the device connected to the laptop, is it mandatory?

      Ekahau software

      The license is tied to the dongle mac address, therefore you need the adapter to start the program. You can assign the license to laptop's built in adapter and then you don't need the Ekahau dongle to start the program. about wifi measurements may be using Ekahau's own adapter is better I think.

    Hey Jeremy, I renewed my subscription to CBT nuggets just to get your wireless survey videos and they are not there. Where can I find them? I saw 1 2 and 3 but the end result is not there.

    May I ask why it looks like there is a wall drawn in the layout? Should the walls are for predictive survey?

    Hey Jeremy...
    My question is simple: How do you get the building blueprint exactly as it is?
    Do you have to draw it into the survey app? How that works?

    • @rkymtnrsx
      @rkymtnrsx Год назад

      You can go simple with taking a picture of the fire escape plan posted in the building or if you can contact the building manager they should be able to provide a more detailed floor plan.

    I have a question. I'm actually working on the same setup you are doing in the video and I worked on it using one AP device and moving it from one area to another. My question as follow:
    If I worked on 2 APs in the area, how the software can maintain moving out from one AP coverage to another? You know the connected device will have that small period of time to connect to another AP, so how we can maintain this small gap of changing between APs? Is it a wifi controller? Thank you.

      In a Passive survey you dont actually connect to the AP, you let the NIC - or in Jeremy's case, multiple - just scan, and measure the air for RF signal. So you don't do any roaming.
      What you are referring to is an Active survey, this is where you connect to an AP and test the roaming and connectivity (bandwidth, ping) to a device in the network.
      In order for a device to properly hand-off between AP's, yes, you need a wireless controller to manage that for you. However in most cases it is the device dictates the roaming criteria, you have the configure the wireless in a way to promote this behaviour for the specific device, which is the hard part.

    Genuine q: Why is walking *more* accurate than doing standing readings? Aren’t you trying to simulate the end user’s experience-most people aren’t walking around with their laptops...

    • @Viatto
      @Viatto  4 года назад +1

      When you’re performing a survey, you’re picking up the wireless coverage through the whole building. Ekahau plots it out for you as you walk.

    • @anyfoolknowthat
      @anyfoolknowthat 4 года назад

      Keeping IT Simple Yeah, but it just seems like it would be slightly inaccurate... if you’re walking, you’re sending /receiving at (slightly) different positions.
      I guess it’s close enough to stats you would receive if not moving?
