Mr Poopy Butthole caused a flashback, but it was not a happy memory. It only got semi-happy when the fake cousin whatever showed up to rescue them. Mr Poopy Butthole is definitely not a parasite which is the whole joke/subterfuge as they wanted viewers to “think” he was one until the twist ending.
Not going to lie, "He said to tell you he's sorry you didn't have any bad memories of him" made me laugh harder than anything else in the episode, and, and that I was already laughing quite a lot throughout.
Nobody's gonna correct him? 😂 It was Jerry's "brother" who was the first parasite, not Mr. Poopybutthole.

If you think MPBH is a parasite because he caused a flashback, remember that Jerry ALSO prompted a flashback.
Jerry’s brother was the first.
Also the first memory with MPBH was actually bad(trapped in an elevator)until the parasite showed up in it saving them.

They put Mr Poopy Butthole in the intro to sorta hint that he's a real character that's always been around. He's real.

MPB’s flashback is them stuck in a elevator, which i wouldn’t say is a pleasant memory. he doesn’t save the day and fix the elevator either. that’s how I knew MPB was real.
I would argue that cousin Larry or whatever had them on a nazi sub though. I feel on most circumstances, being a prisoner on a nazi sub would be a bad memory lol

At the very beginning of the episode those rocks that Rick is throwing away have things on them. It is suspected that those things are the eggs for the parasite. Mr poopy butthole had an unpleasant memory where they got trapped in an elevator and summer peed herself and Morty needed to pee. Cousin Nicky was the parasite that made it all better and made it pleasant. They put Mr poopy butthole in the intro to show that he's actually real and part of the universe.
Mr. Poopy Butthole is not a parasite. This episode made you think he was one, and that was done to surprise us with the knowledge that he was not a parasite. Also, the flashbacks were just a way of introducing the parasites, it doesn't necessarily mean any flashback someone caused meant they were a parasite (especially since main characters also caused flashbacks, the parasites just piggybacked on them). And if there was a main parasite, it was most likely Jerry's fake brother. But you know Mr. Poopy Butthole wasn't a parasite because his blood was red and not purple.
This show gets you so accustomed to weird names like Mr Poopy Butthole, that eventually you’ll say them with a straight face like they’re normal. I speak from experience 😂
They confirmed it was actually Rick who was responsible for the parasites being in the house. Those glowing rocks he threw away in the beginning had little pink parasite eggs on them. If you check back in 2x2 when he’s picking them up, you can see an egg on one of them
It’s been suggested Mr Poopy Butthole _might_ be a different, stronger form of parasite that could take the damage and have red blood
Funny you should mention The Thing because Keith David (Elroy in Community and the giraffe in this episode) was also in The Thing (1982). Very ironic.

This is my all time favorite R&M episode. It also features some elite voice acting talent. Kieth David as reverse giraffe, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob) as pencylvester, and Tara strong (every childhood female cartoon ever) as Tinkles

This is a great episode with an interesting twist.
The first flashback was actually caused by Jerry, and the first actual parasite after Jerry's brother was Uncle Nicky.

In all seriousness, I love the hilarious twist of him being real. Him triggering a flashback wasn’t an indicator of him being a parasite because Jerry & Beth did the same when they spawned the butler. Summer did it when Frankstein appeared. The first parasite was Uncle Steve so Cousin Nicky must’ve already been in the house.

The one who initiates the flashback isn't always going to be the parasite
PBH being in the main title sequence was the hint that he wasnt a parasite. A lot of those events are bad and PBH wouldnt be able to generate those flashbacks if he was a parasite

MPBH is back in future episodes.
Easily the best Rick and Morty episode, hands down. Also, Mr Poopybutthole is voiced by Justin Roiland, who voices not only Mr Meeskees, but also Rick and Morty. Also, there is no parasite anymore, why do you think there is still one left?? Obviously, it's the joke that Poopybutthole is not a parasite and the joke apparently flew over your head, but whatever.
