Being a Leicester City fan as a kid, and as i still am, this game broke my heart. Had it broken a few times since though ! Listened to it under the bed covers on my pocket radio .... Really thought Leicester City were going to win the FA Cup that year, but it wasn't to be ..... Jimmy Bloomfield's team included Peter Shilton, Steve Whitworth, Keith Weller and Frank Worthington .... All England internationals. They played brilliant football at the time, so entertaining and with so much flair. Everyone loved watching them, no matter who you supported ......
Remember listening to this on Radio 2 with the great Peter Jones commentating. The cup was so massive back then. Proud to have been a fan of LFC for over 45 years. Happy days
I.m from greece..we follow...old souls in soccer...since..1971.....three..years old...was born 27 july 1968......west brom.....liverpool..brighton.....marvellous seasons...
@@ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣΚΡΑΒΒΑΡΗΣ Yes buddy…good times…I love RUclips Jus for the old games…great to watch…when you’ve forgotten what the score was…I still get nervous watching games …from 50 years ago..!! 😄
Keegan said afterwards 'I was going to bring the ball down but Shilton's white shirt made me aware of his position and so I went for goal and in it went '
Remember watching this on Sportsnight when I was 7. I started supporting Liverpool earlier in the season after being mesmerised by the Toshack/Keegan pairing. They certainly didn't disappoint in this game, either! Don't remember much about the game apart from Keegan's amazing goal, but Leicester certainly played some good football and had their chances. Whenever the peerless David Coleman was commentating, you knew it was a big game! Ah, the days when the FA Cup meant everything to whoever you supported.
I wonder how many people went through the rigmarole of not finding out the score until Sportsnight was on that night. I tried it a couple of times and it was terrible. I gave up though and followed the games on radio. The FA Cup was really important to us (Liverpool fans) because it was a competition in which we had really underperformed. From a really young age I loathed Charlie George, especially because of that celebration of his when he scored against us. And I wasn't old enough to remember the '74 win, but I remembered, bitterly, the '77 defeat, then being battered by Chelsea in the cup, then beaten by United at Goodison in '79, then beaten by Arsenal after all the replays, then beaten by Brighton on a Sunday, United again...it just seemed a horrendous competition for us.
Football seemed to be a lot more exciting back then with players getting stuck in with tackling and not falling down to the ground after the slightest knock .
I first saw this on a VHS tape of "Liverpool's Greatest FA Cup Victories" back in the mid-90s. Somehow, whenever I hear Coleman's commentary on Keegan's volleyed goal, it always sounds to me like he's reading out loud.
I was at this game and I remember after , that Keegan said when he scored, he could see Shilton, in his all white kit standing out, and he knew to lob him.
I'm a lifelong suffering Spurs fan.But a football fan..And this was(is)Football the way it's supposed to be played..both teams were full of quality or at worst good players(back in those days u had to be good, starting off at schoolboy level, district and so on..every boy wanted to be a footballer, not a reality TV *,Rapper,Gangster or Drug dealer)I mean Liverpool had KK and *Toshbut let's not forget how good a "Wingman" was Steve Highway..U just didn't get many better at taking a Def on and crossing the ball(and he was tough) And Leicester had Weller,Earle,Worthington,ShIlton and some other stalwarts..Great stuff, not like the phony, staged, expensive BS we are presented with now!
I listened to this game on my dad's car radio as we drove home. I still remember the commentator describing Keegan's goal. I share his name, but never his talent.
Yeh i know he was . Did you know brian clough was gonna buy him when he was at Leeds for £400.000 would have made jime englands highest psid player . But clough got the sack after 41 days 😆
David Cummings Ha ha, what a coincidence -- the same happened to me as a nine year old. Got sent to bed by a couple babysitters. Parents were on a night out in Reading. Still, watched the final, and a friend who was actually at the cup final bought me a Wembley 1974 Liverpool scarf. Still got the article.
Just read your comment.... How did that game work out for ye lad....?.. Support and worry about yr own team..! Cant understand other fans sly comments about other teams....I'm a season ticket holder and couldn't care less about your or anyone else's side...!

looks like leicester gave liverpool more of a game here than newcastle did in the final itself
no diving, no playacting, good old fashioned English football.
Great Liverpool, Keegan and Toshack absolutely outstanding!!😉
¨Worthington seeking to have a quick bang´ The great David Coleman always thoroughly researched the players......
Keegan said afterwards 'I was going to bring the ball down but Shilton's white shirt made me aware of his position and so I went for goal and in it went '
Kevin Keegan ❤️❤️❤️ What a player. YNWA
David Colemans commentry made this game.

Amazing atmosphere..the last full house at Villa Park ..nearly 57,000

I am remember a lot of discussion about Shilton's white kit in the next football focus
What a game what goals and the fans ❤️❤️
All the magic of the cup 🏆

I was there, what a great game even though we lost!
Star of the show: Villa Park.
Travelling Kop you mean.
Yeah I thought this was an FA cup match just from the mad kickabout play - but F&*& me Keegan was good sometimes...
The Brian Hall goal was actually a Shilton own goal, off his head.
I listened to this game on my dad's car radio as we drove home. I still remember the commentator describing Keegan's goal. I share his name, but never his talent.
Coleman could make a 0-0 draw at Rochdale feel like Italy 4 Germany 3...World cup semi-final 1970
17:24 the late great Ray Clemence pulls off a magnificent save, that was the defining moment which meant the Reds would march on to Anfield South.
A brilliant volley by Kevin Keegan
Keegan was my hero despite playing defence in elementary school back then. How a out that?
At times in this game Keegan was unplayable.
My dad and his mate took me to villa park for this game was gutted to lose but was only 7yrs old
The game was at Old Trafford?
@@bernardjay379 no this is villa park
Keegan was amazing in the 2nd half.
Great atmosphere.
Travelling Kop making most of the noise.
Was at this game brilliant gutted thought it was Frank's year
This is when the FA cup meant everything
Keith Weller was my cousin . Great player
Millwall legend.
Yeh i know he was . Did you know brian clough was gonna buy him when he was at Leeds for £400.000 would have made jime englands highest psid player . But clough got the sack after 41 days 😆
Keegan in overdrive, some player.
Can you still be gutted from a game that was played 50 years ago? If so, this would be the game.
Is the game played at a greater pace than this today? I don't think so.
As a 9 year old I was sent to bed as the highlights were on the TV to late for me.
+David Cummings J'ai connu la même chose.
il m'arrivait d'avoir droit à une mi-temps

Sorry guys. I was 9 but still watched the highlights. Cheers
Era muy bueno Keegan
Hope we do this on 26 Dec 2019 and end their challenge.

Why on earth did you want dodgy Arab oil money to prevail again? Liverpool are a proper club and under Klopp have a net spend less than Leicester.
