You can see Katie was having a bit of a breathing issue. I just don't see how they didn't catch her heart being weak. Especially if they were having a major surgery like this. God bless them.
The other twin was helping. It takes separation to see it. Both of their lifespans would have been much shorter than the norm if they remained together.
The most important thing is they knew Katie had a weak heart. It's sad Katie passed, but not separating them, they would both have died because of the weak heart. 😢

@@rhondamoore1682 They didn’t choose. The expectation was that they both would survive. One of the girls developed a complication after the surgery and passed away. They chose to have the surgery because staying conjoined was putting both of their lives in danger. There is a video of the whole story here on RUclips. I’ll see if I can find the link.
@@rhondamoore1682after the surgery they discovered that one of the twins Katie, had a a weak heart which only became apparent once surgery was complete which resulted in her having two heart attacks.... She sadly passed after that second heart attack... Had they been left conjoined Katie's weak heart would have unfortunately killed both her and her sister Eilish...

I believe they both knew before they were born, doesnt make it easier for them of course when it actually happens. I believe she's still with her sister when she needs her.

@@lolabear3230no hunny she died days after being butchered. "Weak heart" she had two heart attacks after being cut apart. Katie was left with a head and a leg only. Eilish was left with a torso one leg and two arms. She died from extreme blood loss. Stop perpetuating this twisted version of the truth. Katie died days after being cut up
@@Shannon-vv6rr Katie's heart was weak that's why they chose to operate as if she had died both of them would have died . Unfortunately Katie's heart didn't cope after the operation, they made the right disision and I dont blame the parents they thought both babies were going to make it .

And what if it was more fair to let them both die young, but together, because they were interdependent? What if both babies died due to complications? Sometimes forcing things to make them work "better" or longer is not a good idea. I can't imagine the body of the baby who died, i mean the parts of her that didn't serve anymore cause they stopped functioning, being put apart and buried. They should have analyze the risks better, probably the doctors pressed the parents to try this sooner for better chances, or maybe some doctors only see "cases" and like to play God or against Nature, doing experiments when there are no prior cases... Also they only had one pair of legs: how would the doctors have decided which one of the babies would have them?

Do sad that one of the babies died. She seemed to be the smart one who was outgoing and giggly. Spoke a lot. The one who survived had a malformed head and was left with one leg and health and developmental delays. She does have a child and seems all turned out OK. But, to seperate them and the bright cheerful normal looking one dies. How sad is that? The medical profession should have never even said that both could survive. It was obvious they gave one baby most of the vital organs and bones and left her with almost no blood supply. So “save“the other one? From what? Being a happy conjoined baby? Come on. They literally share too many abdominal organs and will both be left with half of a body. They would have been left disabled at best and dead at worst. Guess the doctors are glad they "saved“ one of the babies. The girl they decided didn't have a strong enough heart. Ofc not. And they didn't know about the heart before the surgery? How? Ok. Nnlone of this surgery makes sence. Even today they won't split a baby who shares a torso with another baby.

They were spared from the perpetual doom they had to live with in that condition, thanks to the medical community, it amazes me how ungrateful people can be despite the hard work the medical communities do day in and day out. You can not blame an entire community for a few rotten apples in that community.

Heartless? Like your comment? I watched the entire documentary and both the mother and father were very loving to all of their kids. They struggled with this choice, and grieved for the loss of Katie. Turned out Katie had a bad heart and they both would have ended up dying if they stayed together. I swear I hate the internet sometimes.

If they had been kept together, it would have eventually been fatal. Not every conjoined twin case is the same, some are more dangerous than others.
@xavierplymptonstongue54 fatal for who? For the stronger one? That is not fair. They were sharing so much, people around them simply should have accepted their condition from the start and prepare themselves and the girls to face a short life but together and with dignity and respect for both of them, using what nature gave them. One managed to have a pretty normal life but that meant leaving the other sister behind, without her knowing. If she could have known and understand, she would have not done it, or maybe the weaker one would have consented to sacrifice herself to let the sister live better, but it's very different from what actually happened.
No they were not doing it well! One of them had a weak heart and the heart of the other one Was not strong enough for both of them. Without separation both would have died. And the life of conjoined twins is really not so easy!

I hate how sad the surviving twin became after the separation. She literally had half of her removed and killed for no real reason. Try could have lived conjoined for a long time if this mom hadn't wanted them separated.

You should know more about the background. One of them had a weak heart. So if they wouldn't have separate them both of them would have died. And the life of conjoined twins is really not easy too.

One dies and if they would have just left them alone she wouldn't have and they said her heart was weak. Together both of there hearts worked good together to circulate the blood . Because one with strong heart pumped most of the blood and one wouldn't have died
This would probably been done a lot different in 2023 and would probably not try to separated them at all if it was consida today.

They need to stroke their hair and faces so they can distract stress, do things like apply pressure by holding hands. They are ignorant to emotional health. Doctors can NOT keep them in separate rooms after separation either , but for sure, they make these idiotic mistakes, even when they are intelligent doctors

@pachiecakes8467 well yes of course she was devastated her sister was gone. No space of five seconds of stroking or not stroking during an evaluation is going to change that. My point was the person I responded to indicated they were neglecting the children. I saw the 2 hour documentary. Those children were deeply loved and not neglected. The parents were wonderful, and they had a hard choice to make.
