- Songs Of Yesteryear Helen Forrest (April 12, 1917 -- July 11, 1999) was one of the most popular female jazz vocalists during America's Big Band era. She was born Helen Fogel to a Jewish family in Atlantic City, New Jersey on April 12, 1917. She first sang with her brother's band at the age of 10, and later began her career singing on CBS radio under the name Bonnie Blue.
How lucky we are to be able to hear this lovely MUSIC via the pc. Shame to the BBC for ignoring this kind of MUSIC.
Helen's voice is angelic. I simply adore her voice and well, even if she was way before my time, doesn't matter, my life is much better knowing her music. I wish I had the chance to meet her before she passed on in the late 1990s. Would have loved to thank her for her wonderful music.
She is absolutely beautiful and what a natural singing voice!
A great song sung by Helen Forrest, one of the greatest voices of all
Can't believe I didn't know about Helen. She is superb and a great voice of the era!
My fathers favorite singer, especially the song perfidia with benny goodman. Granddad had his own orchestra and occasionally played trombone for Tommy Dorsey and dad played the drums for his stint in boot camp in the navy during ww2 with Alvino Ray. I grew up on this and am thankful for it since it gave me an appreciation for what music is, instead of the crap that exists today.
A NEW (to me!) Helen F / Artie S track. What a treat. THANKS.
Was in love with her when I 1st heard her when I was a teenager in the 60's - Then I saw her. Wow!
Artie Shaw was the best of bands 1938-41.
Artie and Helen. Nothing could be better.
I actually love these 38/39 live recordings with Artie Shaw best, as she sings much more accentuated and swinging. Later recordings are often more dreamy and laid back.
Helen is beyond wonderful.. So glad i found her a few years ago.
I just discovered her within the last 5 yrs...Fantastic.
How is there 16 thumbs down? This song is perfect
yes, she was tops--had that yearning sweet quality in your voice--she made one feel better ---
In my opinion, Helen Forrest was the greatest of the Big Band Era. Such versatile voice and beautiful voice. She only got better as they years went by.
Thanks for posting.
Helen Forrest had a great voice, arguably one of the best in popular music!!
When our era is despised or simply ignored, this era will be fondly remembered. This music is one of the reasons why.
Harvest moon above is shining bright,
Helen Forrest is one swell dame! And that orchestra has some hep cats!
