I just tried, Round 1. instead all what I say there on the video I used sc only ( not hdc) 2nd and 3rd rounds exactly the same like video and my sole came out 3.5". Because sole is smaller on the top of sole I think need less rows for strap (purple part) I have 13 rows try make 11 rows. You will feel. Also for strap and button hole, make 2 chains less for buttonhole instead dc make hdc. You can try make sole and then see, if no good then just need wait for new video :) I cant help more at the moment.
When starting the upper part of sandal, we have a stitch marker in the slip stitch. Do we count that stitch as part of the 10 stitches or do we start counting to the left of the stitch marker?

Sorry I cant make video yet, only after 27th June. You can try use bigger crochet hook, 3.75 or 4mm
