"À vif" would mean "Alive", but it's quite uncommon to use this adjective form without the action it describes. A more correct title would be "Vivant", also meaning alive.

Either they translate the title correctly (keeping the right meaning) or give another title keeping the story's context (which I find acceptable), either they invent another title which has little to nothing to do with the original one. Same example with our dear Brad : "The Hangover" became "Very Bad Trip" in France. Excuse for the title ? It's a "very bad trip" from that night to the morning. Thankfully, France sometimes keeps the original title, meaning no damage done. If you are looking for good French translations in movie titles, I strongly suggest the Quebec titles.

Jodie Foster is fluent : she kinda lost it a bit but 20 years ago, it was virtually impossible to detect a hint of American accent in her French, and she still speaks French better than most teenagers these days, which is a prowess.
