can someone tell when is the image distance i.e v in convex lens positive or negative?
Image distance is always positive for a convex mirror. The focal length is positive for convex lens and mirrors. 'f' is negative for concave mirrors and lens. object distance is always negative for all the lens & mirrors.

Its positive when the image formed(v) is real and negative when image formed(v) is virtual

When image is inverted(real), then magnification is taken in negative.
And in the case of erect(virtual), then magnification is taken in positive

I would suggest ki tum ray optics ke class 12 ke lectures bhi dekh lo agar interest ho toh.. It is really easy the way he explains it... It is really best to study geometrical optics in class 10 only as geometry is not taught after class 10 in maths..
