Nice work, and important to keep getting this message out there! Sure the project will affect a small amount of woodland, but the sheer amount of woodland it will save from road building alone is amazing - before you even put in the good work you're doing here. Can't wait to see this project completed, railway of the future :)

Stupid people: Electric railways will kill the planet but sure a 8 lane motorway is fine

When a man who knows his subject, manages his own lands and the lists the choices available says this is a good thing people need to respect and listen to him.
The UK natural habitat will be better for the investments from HS2. So maybe the NIMBYS should not moan so much about its costs.

You can not produce an ancient woodland, you can plant a wood but it will never be the same as what has taken hundreds of years to develop.

fair enough, but would you rather a barren wasteland? Tree planting is one of the biggest steps to combatting climate change, as well as affordable public transit infrastructure, such as HS2.

@@mar07inIn your eyes what’s a barren wasteland? I’m in favour of them planting trees but the original commenter has a point, planting new trees isn’t going to make up for the loss of ancient habitat not for at least another 600 years.

@@spencersanderson1894 My point is, is that HS2 is far more impactful towards meaningfully solving climate change, as opposed to hugging a couple acres of trees. The OP made a trivial point in this regard.

Nature doesn’t plant trees in straight lines!

Neither does planting up new woodland count as “ancient woodland” muppets.

@@spencersanderson1894 I get where you are coming from but the term ancient woodland is dubious as the legal requirements for a sight to be classified as an ancient woodland are effectively that there have been some form of woodland on on a site since the 1600s and that the soil has been left undisturbed whether the woodland has been used as a plantation or not.
