I never had video games when I was a kid because my parents wouldn't allow it :(. I acquired a SNES back in like 2004-ish? Given to me almost as a joke with about 6 games (this being one of them) OMG I played this game like practically every night and showed it to everyone I knew. Lovve the music. I used to watch the full intro. to this game, just to listen to the music progress... Or to read the story.. This game is so fucking cool. I still have it toooo 8) Love the song from 2nd level starting 11:10 is my fav
This game came out when I was born. I'd give anything to know what it was like to be 16-17 and have a summer off school to beat all these old school legendary games. Could you imagine buying this in store and coming home plugging it in. Immersive as one game can be.
Thank you so much for posting this, cubex55! This is a game that I grew up on, and it was very nice to see the entire thing in one video! And the fact that you don't get hit or die once during the game shows that you are a true ace!
This is the first Castlevania game i've ever played, and it is pretty fun. I like the atmosphere and the music. This is like a remake of the original Castlevania to an extant.
I had never played this game before and bought it a few weeks ago. Took me forever to beat, but was hands down one of the most satisfying game plays ever. They don't make games like this before. NES and SNES are classic game plays. This series and Mega Man are probably my favorites.
The SNES soundchip worked wonders with this game, very tense and scary music. The Genesis could do metal and fast-paced music, but when it came to atmospheric, orchestral music, the SNES couldn't be beat. Besides music, everything about this game is perfect. Dark, detailed 2D graphics (Platformers should ALWAYS be 2D), perfect pace of gameplay with no hit detection issues whatsoever, and the whip mechanics were at their best with this game work here. This is one of Konami's best efforts right here, if not the best!
Nah, I don't listen to him other than for shits and giggles. I think of him as a vulgar actor that's funny to watch rather than a nerd... I'm a nerd and I definitely don't sound THAT stupid. It's very true. The SNES was a real-time sampler, and as such sampled REAL INSTRUMENTS. The Genesis was FM synthesis, so it couldn't do music with such realism as this game did. It did however, sound crisper, and could loop much more seamlessly. So overall I think it was better, but this game used more realistic sounding instruments, the Genesis can't do that. That being said, man does SNES music sound muffled in comparison. I agree, Genesis can do atmosphere and spooky sounds, but not anything realistic. Just crisp, clean sounding FM synthesis. I'm not even a SNES fanboy, I just acknowledge that it's realistic, I favor the synthesized Genesis because like I said, it seems to loop better and sounds crisper, albeit more synthesized. For that matter, I favor the Genesis in general. I just like Super Castlevania IV on the SNES.
Actually, the SNES wasn't superior in audio quality, the Genesis was far superior in that respect. It was just more realistic, but at a much lower KHz rate, highest was around 32KHz, Genesis was at least 42KHz. c: Hence more muffly and reverby.
I wasn't copying him though, and if I ever did it would be as a joke, not anything serious like that. Like I said, he's funny but not a person whose word you should take.
This is the game that taught me the difference between music and sound design. The way the prologue and Stage 1 music returns when you approach Dracula's Castle, how music changes mid-stage, when you beat Death and the path to Dracula opens up with the prologue music setting the tone, Simon's Theme kicking in at the last moments of the fight. Symphony of the Night might have "better music", but IV used its music much more effectively.
The Graphics were unparalleled back then, and the animations were top notch. In one level, the background spins and it gives a three-dimensional feel in a two-dimensional game.
my older brothers would play this all night when they first got it. I remember just being half asleep listening to the music. never completely asleep because they yell when they lose LMAO
I got Final Fight on the SNES back in 1991, for my birthday. I managed to snag the receipt for it, and was able to take it back to Montgomery Wards, and exchange it for another game. I saw Super Castlevania right there in the glass case, and instantly, the old NES memories came back to me. I had to pay the difference, as Final Fight was 40$ USD, and SCV IV was 60$. And it goes without saying, it was an investment. The game held me from start to finish. I intentionally lost to Dracula, just to do the battle over and over. A masterpiece of a game, and showed the best aspects of the SNES.
What a beautiful job they did with the Death boss here! The way he appears translucent and fades from top to bottom, his glowing eyes and body. One of if not the best Death sprites
Lucerio Indeed, but IV made subweapons feel useless and was Way too easy compared to the NES games. Rondo of Blood had the classic controls but didn't feel as stiff, and the item crashes made the subweapons a lot more useful to the point where its more reliable than the whip, Even IV's whip
Lucerio the reason i think Rondo is the best is because: 1. Multiple paths and different stages 2. Falling down a pit will not always result on death, but will instead force you to take a specific path ( like Stage 3 in the candle room ) 3. 2 Playable characters 4. Rondo introduces us to Richter Belmont, IMO, the best Belmont, followed by Simon, Juste and Julius. 5. The music
My personal fave of all the series. My other faves were Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse,SOTN,Simon's Quest and Bloodlines(even though this one blew Bloodlines away!) Thanks for putting this on!
My game forever. I Love you so much. Castlevania Nintendo = My game till I'm DEAD !!!! I love you so much !!! I'm happy to have a NINTENDO and SUPER NINTENDO with over 800 original games !!! What a beautifull collection I have !!
No, Super Castlevania IV isn't a launch title, and it's not even that close to being one. The snes was released in Japan on nov 21 1990. SCV IV was released in JP on oct 31 1991. That's almost a year later. In the US the snes was released on aug 23 1991 SCV IV was released on dec 4 1991. That's over 3 months later. In the EU the snes was released on jun 6 1992. SCV IV was released on nov 23 1992. That's almost halve a year later.
I don't know what you mean by "It's way CLONES into being one", but either SCIV is a launch title or it isn't and it isn't. In Japan, the first country the snes came out, there were only 2 launch titles; F-Zero and Super Mario World. In the US the snes had additional launch titles; Gradius III, Pilotwings and SimCity. In Europe the launch titles were the same as in Japan plus Super Tennis. SCIV isn't among them. SCIV wasn't released as a pack-in game either. The only pack-in games were Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World, Mario Paint, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Killer Instinct, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Kirby Super Star, Star Fox, Super Mario Kart, Tetris Attack, Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, Super Tennis, F-Zero (video game), Super Play Action Football. Please prove me wrong and show me what part of the world SCIV was released as a launch title, or explain what you mean exactly.
One of the best Castlevania games ever made. Possibly the best. Eerie and awesome music, demonic bosses, amazing graphics, with beautiful scenarios and a perfect gameplay. The difficulty is also at a right level.
Strange how in the US version the statue's chest area was censored while, Madusa's chest wasn't touched. Like what, Kenny once said: "That don't make a fucking lick of sense!" But, who's complaining? The game is a masterpiece and brings back a cluster-fuck of childhood memories. Also, love the gameplay (as always) keep up the good work. ( 'w')b
easily the best 16 bit soundtrack ever. I'll never forget it. SOTN is the best castlevania game, but Super Castlevania 4 has the best music. Nice video. :)
I really miss the days where you can play with a simple controller. The classic versions of Castlevania is a prime example of that. The music and gameplay is simply amazing.
Beat the game WITHOUT A SINGLE BLEMISH, nice MOONWALK TOWARDS THE END, and don't forget the WARRIOR POSE EVERYTIME YOU BEAT A LEVEL BOSS. You are AWESOME:)
So i'm playing this game on an SNES emulator on PC at the moment and i can't get on the ledge @ 20:58 when i jump up from the lower platform. I have the level 2 power upgrade. So now i am wondering: Do i need the level 3 power upgrade to actually be able to get on that platform? Or does this problem come from somewhere else?
Man, the SNES is so awesome ! I'm so glad I never got rid of it and I still have more than 150 games for it ! I received it for christmas 1991. I was not as crazy as the N64 kid when I saw it but pretty damn close. XD
***** So true. When you still play with a game console you bought more than 20 years ago and still works like a champ, I'd say it was a pretty good investment. The games are so timeless. How many times I played Super Metroid, Castlevania IV, Mario RPG, Mario World 1 & 2 and so many more....
One of the best games ever. The levels, enemies and bosses are exciting, weird and unsettling. (as you'd expect in Dracula's castle) and the music is haunting and memorable years later. 10/10
Everybody buy the amazingly Castlevania Bundle on Steam. I bought it for 5 dollars and it even has the Game Boy games. Might be the greatest deal I have ever bought. I now have all the classic Castlevania games playable with a controller. Doesn't get better.
Just found this a few days ago as a free download online. I have not played this game in over 12 years and I am rusty as hell. I'll be watching this video ALOT to see how you beat the bosses. I forgot how tough some of them are!
This game is absolutely awesome, I played it on an Ipod 2G using an emulator when I was around 8 back in...whew 2010 ish...I only played old games as a kid, didnt even know about anything else until I was older, lol...time passes fast.
And that was my 3rd time fighting Dracula, even through it was unofficial as the Japanese version is just a retelling of my tale while the US version pointed out I fought him again for a 3rd, fated time.
wtf man...I had no idea to wait it out and be patient with the flying skull head attacks. I would keep trying to jump left or swing. Wow....@30:00. This is why I clicked. Thanks!
Absolutely one of the most memorable Castlevania games for me! The music and graphics were amazing for the time...it still holds up today!
Jeremy Barnes I prefered nes part 1
It absolutely still holds up. I was playing it 5 minutes ago.
I never had video games when I was a kid because my parents wouldn't allow it :(. I acquired a SNES back in like 2004-ish? Given to me almost as a joke with about 6 games (this being one of them) OMG I played this game like practically every night and showed it to everyone I knew. Lovve the music.

You loser
Me too I bought it recently and still love the SNES!!! Even My 9 year old nephew plays, together with súper Mario Bros

Real Belmonts moonwalk up the stairs.
Ha!
Its unfortunate we never saw the others do that. Never the less, Simon Belmont moonwalking on the stairs is indeed... amusing.
super
Yeeesssss!!
SomaSaysMeep that’s for sure

That composer should've won a grammy.
Nocturnal Recluse LMAO hell yeah
I couldn't agreed more.
That sound track🔈 🎶🎹

Like I said, he's funny but not a person whose word you should take.
Oh dear God they are.
The comment he made about the Genesis only making heavy metal is BARELY true, that's honestly more than I would expect from him.
Chibi Romano
"he's funny but not a person whose word you should take"
I'd take James opinions over yours that's for sure xD

Great game but lost its sense of adventure. How about a 'Castlevania May Cry' game?!
I know the feeling because I've just finished it.
The music in this game is awful.
+robert stickler it's great fam. but I'll respect your opinion
This game is a masterpiece
Ok niko bellic
That it is.

I thought I was the only one that lost on purpose just to play it over and over 😂
This game was so addictive 😂
OMG I knew there was a reason I subscribed to you. No one ever talks over the entire game in your longplays. :D
This is one of my personal favorite games in the entire series. Super Castlevania 4 is a timeless classic.
Still a better story than Destiny
+kjack19911991 Is that the new moto now? Oh well, I'm from the old ones. (still a better love story than Twilight)
What story in Destiny xD
The soundtrack is the best ever ~~~
Symphony of the night on PS1, much better
YT Account Rondo of Blood on the PC Engine is even better than symphony
Best Castlevania ever, love the soundtracks while playing the game.
The ectoplasm design was phenomenal
Thanks for the this video man! This is when i was young and full of dreams. :( So nostalgic.
What a beautiful job they did with the Death boss here! The way he appears translucent and fades from top to bottom, his glowing eyes and body. One of if not the best Death sprites
Moonwalking down those stairs like a BADASS! :)
Can´t put in words how i miss that days. Awesome Castlevania!
My favourite Castlevania game and easily one of the best games ever made!
even better than SoTN?
In my opinion, yes.
Paulo Lameiras Even better than Rondo of Blood?
Lucerio Indeed, but IV made subweapons feel useless and was Way too easy compared to the NES games. Rondo of Blood had the classic controls but didn't feel as stiff, and the item crashes made the subweapons a lot more useful to the point where its more reliable than the whip, Even IV's whip

I like Simon's Theme when it starts at the final battle with Dracula. It's epic.
When Dracula’s heath is at the critical point it is really on now
Thank you so much for playing, Ultima! Hugs

I'm happy to have a NINTENDO and SUPER NINTENDO with over 800 original games !!!
What a beautifull collection I have !!
This was such an awesome game. I agree with the AVGN. This game was definitely one of the best Castlevania games ever made.
This game is so awesome. The fact that it was pretty close to a launch title for the SNES makes it even better.
No, Super Castlevania IV isn't a launch title, and it's not even that close to being one.

Red Gem God Can you show me where you've got this information?
Exactly!
so excited when this first came out. Music is just awesome! And the revolving tunnel, state of the art then.
5:53 THE MUSIC HMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Love how the skulls in the background follow the movements of the player, such detail.
One of the best Castlevania games ever made. Possibly the best. Eerie and awesome music, demonic bosses, amazing graphics, with beautiful scenarios and a perfect gameplay. The difficulty is also at a right level.
OMG you just finished the entire game without a single scratch!! Awesome! What a godlike playing!!
The intro was totally epic
Best Game i have ever seen and played on snes and steam now too. I would play it over and over again. Fantastic Game overall.
These is one of the best Castlevania I remember playing this back in the day
Strange how in the US version the statue's chest area was censored while, Madusa's chest wasn't touched. Like what, Kenny once said: "That don't make a fucking lick of sense!" But, who's complaining? The game is a masterpiece and brings back a cluster-fuck of childhood memories. Also, love the gameplay (as always) keep up the good work. ( 'w')b
Definitely one of the best games of the 16bit aera.
The SNES launched with some amazing titles. Castlevania, Super tennis/soccer , Mario , F-Zero , Sim city. Every one was amazing!
I Like how Belmont Moonwalks up the stairs, if he is in a rush he'll have to beat it.
easily the best 16 bit soundtrack ever. I'll never forget it. SOTN is the best castlevania game, but Super Castlevania 4 has the best music. Nice video. :)
Im buying a super nintendo again.I miss real gaming.
Litho Gonzalez You can get this on the snes mini
Jogo fantástico emocionante, trilha sonora maravilhosa não tem pra ninguém em todas as franquias
It's dat atmosphere, man. The soundtrack alone is one of the most haunting (and awesome) things I have ever experienced in a Super Nintendo game.
28:55 Is one of my favorite game bosses ever. That flailing tongue is so freaky looking. xD
+Kragatar He lix yew up.
Everytime I listen to this music I think of Super Metroid. Man I love NES/SMS/SNES/Genesis. No better two generations.
I really miss the days where you can play with a simple controller. The classic versions of Castlevania is a prime example of that. The music and gameplay is simply amazing.
What a game!Ahead of its time.
You made it through without getting hit once? A gaming god you are.
Beat the game WITHOUT A SINGLE BLEMISH, nice MOONWALK TOWARDS THE END, and don't forget the WARRIOR POSE EVERYTIME YOU BEAT A LEVEL BOSS. You are AWESOME:)
1:26:10
One of the most epic moments in video game history.
BOTW is still the best Switch game Yeah. Lighting comes and Dracula Powersup and Simons Music came. That’s when you know it is on now!
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the best of all time hands down. The music and gameplay is beautiful.

Man, the SNES is so awesome ! I'm so glad I never got rid of it and I still have more than 150 games for it ! I received it for christmas 1991. I was not as crazy as the N64 kid when I saw it but pretty damn close. XD

Just found this a few days ago as a free download online. I have not played this game in over 12 years and I am rusty as hell. I'll be watching this video ALOT to see how you beat the bosses. I forgot how tough some of them are!
I love the music is wonderful !

the best castlevania for all time !!!!!!!!!!!
That intro music is incredible.
This game is absolutely awesome, I played it on an Ipod 2G using an emulator when I was around 8 back in...whew 2010 ish...I only played old games as a kid, didnt even know about anything else until I was older, lol...time passes fast.
Excellent. Ultima you are really good in this game :) Thumbs up
And that was my 3rd time fighting Dracula, even through it was unofficial as the Japanese version is just a retelling of my tale while the US version pointed out I fought him again for a 3rd, fated time.
I remember this game well!! Went through the whole game in a matter of 2 months!!
Did this sound a little faster than the original?
