So easy! Thanks for the great tutorial. Actually, using it to do name cards for seating at my wedding and you just saved me a lot of time. Sometimes trying to figure out how to do this stuff takes more time than just doing it manually, but not today :-) I'm sure I'll find many more uses in the future.
image links not working for me, they don't show up when previewing, how does a relative link work if your'e working on a server with many folders within folders?
Hi, well you dont need to use relative links, you can also just use the whole file path if that's easier. 😀 But a relative link means relative to where your InDesign file is. So for me I had a links folder in the folder of my InD doc and I only type that+the file name. Cheers.
Hello! I'm on a Mac and am trying to save my Excel file as a .CSV file but when I do, I don't see the same selection that you chose, 'CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)' file. Should I assume that since I'm on a Mac, I would have to choose another option? When trying to import the file from Indesign via the Merge panel, I get the error message, 'The selected data source has one or more empty field names. Please fix the file or select another file.' Any idea on why this is happening? Thank you for a great video, just subscribed!
Hi, I don't have InDesign on my mac but I do find plenty of .csv formats that you can save as in my mac version of excel. I would try the one called "comma separated value (.csv)" Glad you liked the video.
Hi, glad to hear it. Yes, once you have the merged document, and export as PDF, under the general tab, there is a checkbox called"create separate PDF files". Just make sure that is on and you're good to go.
Hi, just FYI the resolution of your vid is too low. I have a ultra-wide monitor -- i don't know if that's effecting things -- but when I expand the vid to Full Screen, the featured control panel is blurry.
Hey man, great vids, you deserve more subs. Question: I have a indesign file (html5 business report) of which the last page is a findings template. I want to use data merge to fill the template with the different variables of the findings. I want to use arrows to go to the next or previous finding. I also want to use a horizontal menu bar which shows buttons of the findings. The problem is the amount and type of findings are different per report. Obviously here comes data merge into play. But the horizontal menu bar needs to be updated as well. Got any tips how to counter this?
Thank you, I appreciate that a lot. Regarding your question unfortunately I think it's a bit to complex for me to solve/answer in a comment. It's hard to get a proper grasp of the problem. Cheers
Is there a way to do a data merge with two masters within one doc? My excel file calls for two different designs but they need to be in order... Otherwise I would have two different files to create the merge...
Hi, I did some testing and it seems you cant make data merge alternate between different masters. (As far as I can see, I could be wrong) If you add two pages with the same tag it will generate all for both. So for that to work you'd probably have to write in a range when exporting and do it two times. But if you have many pages that's probably not an option. It might be easier to go with two files or export two pages in the same document with all entries and then edit the PDF and remove the pages you don't need. Like I said in the video the tool has it's limitations. Cheers.
Hi if you are using windows, in file explorer you can under the home tab use copy path to get the path for selected files. For mac I don't know if there is something similar or not. Cheers
While using data merger I can only update first line of text For example Hameed 319 door number Address telengana I need to get all these text But I am getting only hameed in InDesign
Hi, it's hard to say what the issue might be without seeing it. My best guess is that it might not be setup correctly in excel. The info either needs to all be in one cell or be under separete columns on the same row (with several data merge tags indesign)

Thanks, yes people have mentioning the resolution. For future vids im going to try and scale my interface a bit. Cheers.
