i love that Leon is going back to RPD bc it mirrors Grace going back to Wrenwood hotel. they are both confronting their traumatic past head on to work through it
Meh I'm not sure I like this narrative direction, honestly. It's a fine theme/analogy to have in other games, but RE as a series has kinda already established that figures like Leon aren't that traumatized by the shit they face in the games (seriously, he looks pretty happy-go-lucky for the most part in RE2). It's kind of a retcon in my mind. Edit: Maybe this is just me misremembering things, as I haven't played RE2R in about 6 years, but I could've sworn that the "RCPD was traumatizing to Leon" was really, really not a prevalent theme in RE2R at ALL. If I'm wrong then ignore what I'm saying I guess, but re-watching the cutscenes, a couple of "oh jesus!" and "what the fuck?" does not sell the feeling of "this is traumatizing" to me as much as RE9 makes it out to be. It's like, all I hear is confusion or disgust, not distress, you know? It might have some elements that might be a set-up for a future "facing with PTSD" arc, but there's still some pieces missing that makes the RE9 arc feel somewhat forced. I think much the same about the RE8 twist that "Ethan was mold all along!", by the way. Besides the obvious "if he was mold all along why did Eveline let him kill her" plotholes, what really irks me about this plot twist was that the previous game did not really establish it? Like it was ambiguous enough to make it possible in terms of lore, but it still felt unearned to a degree, and I feel like the PTSD arc has much the same issues - the lack of a clearly intentional set-up. The doubt in my mind that this "plot twist" was something they threw in last second because "oh well it technically would work!" still lingers.
@r@reaperz5677 Leon was absolutely traumatised by the events of RE2. It’s only because he was blackmailed to work for the US government and went through not only rigorous training but insane missions where he saw more and more of this stuff. He got “used to it” but that doesn’t mean his traumatic past becomes irrelevant. Leon joined the police force to make a difference and yet he couldn’t stop the fall of raccoon city. He couldn’t even take down umbrella. He has regrets and he had to face them.
@reaperz5677 he's not happy go lucky at all in RE2. He's traumatized and terrified. Wtf makes you think he wasn't? Any normal person would be traumatized by the stuff Leon goes through in that game. Gtfo here 😂😂
@reaperz5677the only game I can see you saying this for is the OG re4 Leon feels like a completely different character from OG re2 and the remake like a more edgy version of Dante from DMC that’s why I lowkey prefer the remake story to the og cuz he just feels more like a real person rather than a goofy anime protagonist but I still love that version still a top 10 game of all time to me and understand if you perfer that take but to say that no other re character deals with trauma and feels like a retcon is very strange take imo
Grace's Report is so friggin cool since it's basically a full lore recap of all of Resident Evil and even fills in missing connections between the games
@MysticMage17 To be fair though, I kinda needed Spencer’s explanation before watching any playthroughs of this, because there’s so much stuff I didn’t know or don’t pick up on. I’d love to see an updated version, or maybe just talk about it on Smosh Mouth or something.
Elpis is the greek word for "hope". In mythology Pandora opened the box and all the bad things came out but at the last moment she closed it before hope getting out. We have a saying that in free translation goes like that "hope always dies as the last one".
I thought initially Grace was Rose because they look so similar and at the ending of Resi 8's DLC I thought the agent telling Rose she was needed meant she joined the FBI.
@AlistairBrownlee1988when I watched the trailers, I definitely thought Rose was in this game because they look so similar and I remember the end of 8.
If you destroy Elpis on your first playthrough, after the credits there is an option to return to that point and change your mind. They absolutely put that ending in for shock value and I love them for it
@jonny2218 I did too... I spent so much time on the decision, I thought that the "hope" choice was a red herring, and Leon wanted us to destroy it... I told my fiance before I made my choice that destroying Elpis would probably result in Leon's death, but releasing it would save him and result in something far worse. I'm glad I was wrong.
Why isn’t anyone talking about when Leon finds the room where that dad had to shoot his zombie daughter in RE2 and Leon remembering?! THAT IS SO HEARTBREAKING 😭😭
That made me tear up, generally you don't hear Leon in such a emotional way. You could tell that event has haunted him for years. It was a powerful moment for sure.
I destroyed Elpis on my playthrough and was depressed, then played the actual ending literally right after and that's probably the most positive whiplash i've ever had playing a game lol
I had the exact same experience and I’m kinda glad I did it that way because the relief I felt after playing the good ending felt so good knowing our boy was okay
@colegrant8786 ive seen some people complain about the 2 endings. but i love it. The simple bad ending is fun and dark. and all it does is raise the cannon ending even higher. i played it the same way, destroyed Elpis then went back and released it.
Idk how i feel like it. It feels like they wanted the impact of killing off leon without actually commiting to it. It feels less like a bad ending and more like a glorified game over.
What are the chances of two different orphanages sitting right next to a police station, lol. But yeah, it means that both Sherry and Grace were put in the same creepy place.
@laneybear666 nah. Sherry is the daughter of the Birkins, two scientists that worked for Umbrella. The wife is almost immediately died but the husband was turned into a mutant and attacked rookie Leon. Sherry was supposed to escape from the city but was caught and placed into the orphanage by the RPD's chief Brian Irons because he was working with Umbrella and they don't want any eyewitness.
The "Welcome Leon" sign always makes me a bit emotional because they were so excited for him to come see them, but then the outbreak happened. Those that were lucky to meet Leon aren't alive anymore, it hurts knowing they were so happy he was coming that they made a sign.
Fr, like he was coming to start the next chapter of his life with those guys... just for him to be the last one standing and that next chapter being zombies for 30 years 😢
this game was awesome! only negative for me was it feeling way too much like RE Village for me, but maybe im just not familiar enough with the franchise.
in a weird way, i'm kind of like that Grace never got over her anxiety and "became confident." Instead of her trauma and anxiety disappearing, they remain and yet she pushes through regardless, and I think that's really powerful in its own right.
As someone with a lot of anxiety i couldn't agree more. It never really disappears, you just find coping mechanisms and methods to manage and push through it all. Great great take.
It’s sad that everyone was so excited to welcome Leon, and that never happened because most of them died or became infected, I wonder how Leon felt reading all those letters of welcome
Right and to see marvin was the one who organized it also if you have the addon letters from 1998 when you play as leon its so sad finding those letters and following the lil story they tell
The biggest tell for me that Grace wasn’t the “original” or even a clone is because the video you watch of the little girl in the orphanage is from 1990; Grace wasn’t even born yet lol She’s 28, it’s 2026 in the game, she was born in 1998.
The flashback in Wrenwood takes place in 2018 and Grace is clearly a teenager there, she can't have been born in 1998 unless the devs really fucked up her timeline.
Jack! Did you know Alyssa Ashcroft has a mention in RE7? In the main part of the house with the shotgun and the lightroom, there’s a newspaper made by Alyssa Ashcroft covering the Baker Family case. She’s been teased for so long!
I actually just recently learned she was already a pre existing character in the resident evil outbreaks games (2003). I came across a video by a channel called Horror To Study To, with lore to Alyssa and the outbreak games, the video is "EVERYTHING You Need To Know About Alyssa Ashcroft & Outbreak Games Before Resident Evil Requiem" I recommend watching if ya wanna know more, 19 minute video
@filmfangirls9163 Oh, same. I was crying and praying it wouldn’t happen believing they (Capcom) would do that, but I was so happy and relieved that wasn’t the case.
2:52:13 I saw someone saying that Leon saw his ResiEvil 2 self in Grace, and I couldn't unsee it during all the playthrough. In the end, he managed to save someone so he wouldn’t have regrets this time, while preventing Grace from going through the same despair and regret he experienced after RE2. Incredible game. Even if he's not getting any younger, I hope we’ll get to see Leon in a game again !
I will say it kinda retreads the same arc he goes through in re4, at least in the re4 remake. He is so determined to save Ashley because he couldn't save anyone in Racoon City, so in the end he saves her.
@latrelljack8751yea, you can see his face noticeably change significantly younger. It’s one thing to get rid of the black bruises on his face and it’s another thing for him to look super young. I also believe that the antiviral he took definitely has some positive effects on humans like super strength and durability
@Liam-Hartwelli know they did they for Jill, and Sherry looks gretty good for late 30s. Idk though because he has already been cured once (thanks Death Island) but idk
(spoiler warning) something worth noting is that throughout the whole game, leon two hands the requiem and has massive recoil, but after he gets cured and is full strength, he 1 hands the requiem and has zero kickback at all. Just shows how powerful full strength Leon is.
Not true, mans is literally still using two hands to hold the piece, and getting massive amounts of recoil too @ 2:42:27 he’s a G but he’s no John Gotti
@annasayaz3141 Thank you!, I may be 49.. but I feel great, I've been able to experience so many great gaming moments over the years. And some of them I can thank Jack and his videos for.. mainly Subnautica, and Elden Ring.
I got about half a year until then. I intend to cake appropriately for half a century's worth. A lot of people never get the privilege to get this far and while I'm not unscathed, I still am here. So cake! 🎂🍰
I honestly think more peaks have been reached during this game due to our main man Leon aura farming and reloading guns in such ways that have us flabbergasted than any adult film has ever caused.
Not that much difference tbh, just 7 years of difference. If he tried to date her when they met it’d be pretty weird imo but now that time has passed, it’s above board
This resident evil really feels like they took all the best parts of all their games and put them together in something completely new. It feels both nostalgic in a good way and also very original at the same time.
The voice actress and performance capture for both adult Grace and young Grace did a phenomenal job for her character. To hearing each shudder of her breath when hiding, to her stutters, the crying. Absolute cinema.
I think some of it's good but the voice acting really, really over-uses the s-s-s-s-stuttering. Like it genuinely feels like she s-s-s-stutters every fucking scene. I wish this aspect was a bit more... moderated, to a degree.
@reaperz5677 As someone who grew up with a strong stutter and does still have a stutter at times, it's pretty realistic. It tends to happen more during times of stress, excitement, or any other strong emotion.
At 8:37, Jack reads a note. He read the same note 7 years ago in his re2 remake playthrough (30 mins 55 seconds, part 1), and had nearly the same reaction to the note that he did in 2019 😂
2:32:00 my read is not that they're giving Spencer a redemption, more that they're showing that all he got out of the terrible things he did was regret. He wasn't redeemed, he died a sad old man full of regret for what he did.
i don't think that was the same gas station. it has a different layout inside and there also weren't many buildings around the one in re2 (would be cool though!) however, i think the tanker truck you see once leon arrives to raccoon city center is the one that the truck driver was in that exploded in the beginning of the game
A little trivia: Raccoon City wasn't bombed by nuclear weapon, but by thermobaric bomb, that's why the games/series never mentioned anything about nuclear radiation
Modern nuclear warheads don't cause Radiation. The reason that older ones did was because they couldn't harness all of their potential, they detonated with only a fraction of their nuclear energy detonating. But, as science learned how to harness more of that explosive potential and to more efficiently force the cellular divide, it improved how powerful the bombs were, thus why the bombs got bigger and more powerful, because they used more of their fuel. Nuclear Radiation being a problem is only really a thing if the bomb doesn't completely dispend of its nuclear energy in the blast. For an analogy, think of throwing a molotov, but the fire doesn't consume all of the fuel for some reason, so, smaller fire, but theres left over fuel. Same thing.
@TheCountOfRatz Way to spread false information. Think you should research nuclear weapons a bit more. They cause less, not zero, and it depends on what type of nuclear bombs.
The Feb 1990 birthday, the silver hair... I think Jack is a Grace clone too Edit: I've learned that the girls aren't Grace clones so nevermind lol. My fault for trusting the words of Zeno & Victor, two verrrrry trustworthy people lol
@AAAAAA-613yeah it's a clone deathday not a birthday, but it would be the right timeframe at least, as I'm sure Grace had to have been born close to that year, since if all these girls are clones of Grace, and since Chloe is already a kid by the year 1990, that would mean Grace had to have been born at least before 1990, before Spencer found her or any clones were made, which I guess is plausible, but idk... Grace looks to be in her late twenties maybe early thirties to me, and so I find it hard to believe she was born before the early to mid 90s. But she has to have been born in the 80s for there to be kid-aged clones of her like Chloe existing by 1990, since Chloe wasn't the first clone (Chloe can see the picture of Spencer with a ton of other clone girls). So is the original Grace not the Grace we play as, and is Grace a clone too? Idk... it's confusing, especially since trusting what Zeno says about anything is hard when obviously he was totally off about what Elpis was and Grace being special, so he could've been wrong about the clone thing too. If Spencer was regretting everything, why would he be wanting to make Grace clones in the first place, if she wasn't actually special? But maybe it was more the other researchers like Victor who were responsible for the clones, not knowing what Spencer's true intent was. After all, I feel like the note in the orphanage about the new researcher being excited to experiment on the girls was likely written by Victor, the personality matches him.
@LtCdrXanderI agree that Grace is not old enough to be have been cloned that many times by 1990, but this begs the question: who is Grace a clone of? And what made this person so special? Why could she be the key to releasing Elpis? Gideon and Zeno seemed SO sure that Grace was the perfect clone, but she doesn’t know the password. She figures it out by watching a video, something anyone could do, something not intrinsic to her.
@LtCdrXanderGrace is not special. She doesn’t know the code, because she doesn’t share Spencer’s blood. The Chloe girl is not a clone of Grace. All the little girl clones were from Umbrella trying to use blood to cross over Spencer’s memories to get the Elpis code, and Zeno and Gideon saw Grace, her being so attached to Spencer, and immediately thought “SHE MUST BE PATIENT ZERO!! SHE HAS THE CODE!!” they were completely wrong. Grace is not related to the clones or Spencer in any way other than the mission itself and her being Spencer’s adopted daughter.
Omg I know right at that specific point I was scared to continue since I avoided anything related to RE9 so I wasn't spoiled... I had major RDR2 vibes. Thinking "no no plz don't do it not Leon"
I mean he though he send her to just analyze some body and the crime scene. He never know that grace would be kidnapped and forced to go through horror
He sent a traumatised desk jockey on her own to the place of her trauma without a single field agent with her. If she went with a field agent and he died, then at least it just went wrong.
Fun fact: Garmr is a Norse mythological term for essentially a hell-hound! They guard the gates of Hel. We named one of our DND character's after them in our long-term game (been going over 10 years now) The more you know!
But please go for the REmake! (In case that's not what you had in mind.) As much as I love the corniness of the OG, the remake has so much more atmosphere (and Lisa is still my favorite RE "monster").
@jaylatheuberdriver I think you might have misunderstood, Grace wasn't a clone. Gideon says "there was no link between Grace and Emily" as well as Spencer confirming she's a normal baby he adopted. Zeno and Gideon just assumed she was a clone because of Spencer's valuing of her and that she looks like the clones. They look similar purely out of coincidence, same with Grace looking like Alyssa, who wasn't her bio mom
the crazy thing is that is is just very dense cataracts that emily had : cataract surgery on someone her age should be fairly easy to do but the people in that research centre did not care they only wanted to experiment on her. happy she is alive and fine in the end.
Hey Sean, I just wanted to give a thought on the end there. You mentioned how Grace was sidelined for Leons final boss encounter, but i just thought to myself the entire fight. "Man, i love Grace" She was Spencers' hope for the world, she wasnt a bioweapon, and she wasn't some chosen one of prophecy (which Gideon did a good job mislieading us with) she was a normal woman who embodies a final act of atonement for those who have suffered, hope for those are suffering and a Requiem for those who have passed. Her curing Leon of his illness, which can also represent the weight of his trauma, and letting him go crazy on Gideon felt so gratifying to watch as he couldn't have gotten here without her. Granted, this is just my headcanon, but it makes me appreciate her so much as a character.
@oakbeeluvsu John Wolfe just replayed 1-4 (and Code Veronica, plus Outbreak Files 1&2 (with Gab and friends)) on his JohnTwolfe channel before Requiem, really good watches with some fun treats.
@oakbeeluvsu game grumps also played it, but i know people find the way arin plays annoying (he basically speedruns it and spoils a lot of things for danny lmao) also: for anyone looking for alyssa's backstory, gab (sean's girlfriend) played outbreak with some of her friends!
Grace had spent the past eight years with no friends and her trauma holding her back. But now she’s come to terms with her past, just as Leon has, and she not only adopted Emily under her care (as Alyssa did before her) but also has Leon as her first long-term friend, even having his phone number to keep in touch. She grew a lot over the ordeal, going from fearful to fierce and finding her place as a worthy protagonist capable of measuring up to the Core Four… as well as able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Leon.
I lost my mom and spent 8 years isolated. I love Grace so much and how they portrayed her in here, and when Leon said "I'm just gonna sit here with you" I just burst into tears, that must mean a lot to Grace. T_T
I loved this game my only grumble is that complete lack of any mention of Claire feels like a real shame especially since Sherry is involved would have been nice to revisit those relationships even just in passing
I think it’s nice we got to see a bit of Sherry in this one. Since Chris was mentioned at the end and Leon gives the subtle hint that he might see him soon, Claire may be involved with the next one.
1:05:18 I knew it!! Plant 43 was the plant creature that Leon fought in the Umbrella Lab and sprayed the pesticide on! The attacking flowers looked very familiar, and it’d make sense why they would “have it out for him.” Such a cool idea to bring it back, but 30 years older and more bitter, just like Leon. 😂
That flashback as he opens the R.P.D door is really interesting. It’s the break from the rugged action hero and shows his humanity and how deeply the events of Resi ll touched and hurt him
i also feel like another way that Leon got closure was in this journey with Grace. like obviously, the return to Raccoon City was Leon revisiting his greatest regrets, and he even tells Grace as much when he joins back up with her, telling her that he came now because he couldn't make a difference back then. Leon agreeing to let Grace come was treated with a lot of narrative/cinematic weight, particularly her telling him, "i don't want to have any more regrets." Leon gets that. He's always lived with regrets. And Grace being younger, potentially around the same age he was in RE2, feels like it supports this dynamic between them. Leon can't change his past, but he can connect with and help other people who are in the same boat he was. i think this was just a really lovely way to round out Leon's character arc. in a way i wasn't sure if they ever would. i doubt they're planning on FULLY retiring him, if they ever do, but i like that it feels like he has enough closure that if he were to gracefully bow out at some point down the line, i'd feel satisfied that his story had a through line.
Grace is give or take 2 years older than he was when the Raccoon City Incident happened (assuming the Ashcroft interview happened just before Spencer secluded himself after the Umbrella Trials in 2003, which means Alyssa took Grace in when she was 3), so yeah he sees that naive 21 year old rookie cop in her and wants to help her.
There's no way the 'Welcome Leon' banner stayed so intact. Zeno wasn't just mean enough to drag it from the other room into the central command desk, he was a petty enough little tryhard that he actually went out, had a new banner made, artificially aged, and then brought there, just to try and fuck with Leon. Convince me otherwise.
On the post credits: "Retrieving the object before they send in the "wolves"" - Chris Redfield's special team is named "Hound Wolf". So they snatched something before Chris could get it.
Some people think that they (The Connections) were grabbing Zeno's head. Idk what they would need it for when he doesnt even have powers though. Another possibility is that they are grabbing a sample of Elpis, but again, idk what they would need that for when Leon and the gang presumably already nabbed it all and gave it to all the raccoon city survivors.
@RealVoidMarvin 1. Make a new Wesker clone from Zeno's head 2. A serum that can cure almost any virus, you could reverse engineer that you will be able make something uncureable.
I finished the game last night. I know it’s really small, but can we just appreciate Marvin having soda planned alongside the beer and pizza for Leon? That’s so CUTE. I don’t drink, and I love that he thought about that :)
After not watching your content for years and finally coming back to watch this, it reminded me of all the times I enjoyed it when I was younger, and it makes me want to buy the game and play it myself.
The creepy little girls are actually so terrifying like the babies and kids that crawl and run at you in dead space, even more scary than most zombie variants for me.
As a chronicaly ill person, it's honestly very empathetic to see Leon like this. Yes, gameplaywise is may be taxing but that's the experience of a person like us- you go from fine to f8cked in seconds. You 'push through' only to burn out faster and fall harder. If games can give people a more empathetic insight about how life with these conditions can take you from normal to nul no matter how tough/smart/handsome/badass you are, that's good. That's what art is for. And my gawd, I felt those stairs!
I agree. Feeling sick all of the time, but having to keep going has been my life for so damn long now. Seeing my boy Leon who I have grown up with since finding this franchise in the nineties pushing through everything he’s been through his whole life, is damn inspiring.
This is what i was thinking as well. I immediately related so hard, even to the frustration that comes with it from Sean's perspective lol. It's making me want more horror games built solely around a disabled/chronically ill main character, forcing you to be more creative with how you play through it and cope with the issues that come with it. An example i could think of, while it handles disability etc. differently, a game Sean played pretty recently called "letters of bernard thorne" also handled disability in horror in a pretty good way
I’m so sad that that he didn’t find all the Easter eggs in the RPD. After the chase ends you can keep exploring rooms and you can find the tofu and open a case to find weskers glasses.
That’s a good Easter egg. There’s one Easter egg in disappointment Jack didn’t find, Leon does the iconic hair flip as a nod to Vergil from Devil May Cry, another one of Capcom’s iconic games.
I was so sad when he didn't check that part of the r.p.d station, he was so thorough the entire game but that part but I'm glad he still enjoyed and played how he wanted
@mochikohai1875 lmao when I first played I didnt even see him I was just confused af cause I could hear him but I didnt know what it was, later I found out it was Tofu running lol
@Goose0722 i thought mr x was still following me around and just waiting to burst through the walls, so when i heard tofu pop out i nearly had a heart attack lmao
I've played most of the Resident Evil games and I still don't know what the 7 Minutes thing is then again I have probably heard it and have just forgotten it and don't remember
Part 4 got age restricted. Lucky me!!
😮
hi
Oof sorry man
Mythical refresh pull
Tough luck

“I would destroy the world rather than killing Leon.”
That’s real as fuck Jack.
Facts it's the only option
Life is Strange all over again lmaooo
Joel from TLOU vibes 😄
Agreed.
Honestly, yeah. IDC anymore. Let Leon live by any means necessary
Legend has it Grace is still running around with the charm that improves your knives, whilst never using a knife in her life
It ain't about the in-game stats, it's about sending a message.
She's a woman of focus, commitment and sheer fucking will.
I almost always had no ammo sooo...
BAHAHA i couldn’t stop thinking about it and jack actually brought it up so late in the game 😂
I bet she's a beast chef though.
She's weirdly great at chopping things tho 😂
"this is the greatest condom commercial i've seen" is WILD LMFAOOO
Quote that as a meme
Time stamp?
@kiratwo4upretty sure it was some point during the orphanage section
@kiratwo4u 31:10
“Wild”
Leon started coughing and i got red dead flashbacks like a fucking 'nam veteran
true omfg
Same! 😭
Glad it’s not just me
So true 😂😭
“I gave you all I had, Dutch…”
Grace's Report is so friggin cool since it's basically a full lore recap of all of Resident Evil and even fills in missing connections between the games
Damn Spencer should have just waited a couple weeks
@MysticMage17 To be fair though, I kinda needed Spencer’s explanation before watching any playthroughs of this, because there’s so much stuff I didn’t know or don’t pick up on. I’d love to see an updated version, or maybe just talk about it on Smosh Mouth or something.
Does it include Chris punching the boulder?
@Kingbimmy They're probably going to play RE9 on Smosh Games so I imagine they'll read the report when they finish it
with angela, i dont think so (love her)
Him missing one SINGLE Mr.Raccoon as he foreshadowed missing just one the entire game makes it 100% more funny
The one that got away
@MusicianF5all this ammo can't buy me a time machine, nooooo 🎵
More like 96% funnier
@ghiyas396you are so clever I should’ve said that😭😭
Kills 99,9% of bacteria
Elpis is the greek word for "hope". In mythology Pandora opened the box and all the bad things came out but at the last moment she closed it before hope getting out. We have a saying that in free translation goes like that "hope always dies as the last one".
Brazilian saying, I imagine (I'm Brazilian). XD
Aura
@fenrirwolfy1848 it is a greek saying too, lol
Implication being, of course, that hope is a bad thing.
In german it is also a saying "Hoffnung stirbt zu letzt"
Grace's sections through this game:
Grace is trapped with zombies
Leon's sections:
Zombies are trapped with Leon
This made me wheeze 😂
😂💯
Cue doom music 🤣
Only the 20th person I’ve seen copy and pasting this
Who wouldn't be trapped in a room with leon?
"Hey, Lieutenant Branagh. Kennedy reporting for duty."
That actually tore me up inside.
had me in tears
enough to make a grown man cry
And then right below it is a note showing the RPD’s set up for a welcome party for Leon god the whole RPD had me weeping
I’m sobbing 😭
The way he probably rehearsed that line before his first day as well, only to replay it in his head over and over cuz he never got to say it 😭
Find someone who loves you as much as Sean loves the hip pouch
While he's playing as Grace, he understands the strugle of not having pockets 😭
I feel like that's the point where you actually need a restraining order 😅
I don't know if I could endure being spun around so violently.
Just realized that a 50 something year old Leon is fighting a 50-60 year old hunk. Just two senior citizens going at it
Charles Muntz vs. Mr. Frederickson
Technically you’re not considered at senior citizen until 65.
@travisvanalst4698seriously, that long, sheesh
50 is not senior age. Companies and services that are for seniors lump in 50 yr olds to increase their gains and maximize profits.
49 year old leon, but still
Chris is gonna introduce Rose to Leon and its another little blonde girl to be protective over only this one has mold powers
I thought initially Grace was Rose because they look so similar and at the ending of Resi 8's DLC I thought the agent telling Rose she was needed meant she joined the FBI.
@AlistairBrownlee1988 yeah, at the flashback in the beginning I was confused about Mira's glow up.
@AlistairBrownlee1988when I watched the trailers, I definitely thought Rose was in this game because they look so similar and I remember the end of 8.
Plot twist would be Grace & Rose meet
problem is that RE 8's DLC takes place in like 2036 lol, at the very least Emily could become a friend of Rose tho
If you destroy Elpis on your first playthrough, after the credits there is an option to return to that point and change your mind. They absolutely put that ending in for shock value and I love them for it
This is shock value done right.
Ya
I feel stupid for picking that ending first
@jonny2218 I did too...
@jonny2218Same😭 I didn’t think Leon would ACTUALLY die
Everyone has PTSD when main loved character starts coughing blood.
we're all 'nam veterans from rdr
*Arthur Morgan flashback*
"I'm dyin', Grace. I got TB."
I didn’t even finish rdr2 yet because I’m scared to watch Arthur die 😭
@artsyfartsynerdywordy Fr same. I deleted the game.
I genuinely feel you because that ending was absolutely heartbreaking the way they sent off Leon
@majorkrizpy9939Exactly, that also goes to show what could've happened to Leon in Re 4 for example, or even the movies.
The police officers being so excited to see Leon and them being so friendly on the letter breaks my heart knowing what actually happened to them after
They deserved so much better, screw umbrella
@patrickripleyiii134 Yeah
@patrickripleyiii134 from what I understand, this single sentence describes 90% of the franchise
Also, Jack. That IS the Racoon orphanage you snuck around as Sherry in RE 2 remake.
So when did racoon city first open?
@naomithornhill2079Read Grace’s report unlocked after the first playthrough
What are the chances of two different orphanages sitting right next to a police station, lol. But yeah, it means that both Sherry and Grace were put in the same creepy place.
Idk the lore really, but could that mean Sherry is a clone too?
@laneybear666 nah. Sherry is the daughter of the Birkins, two scientists that worked for Umbrella. The wife is almost immediately died but the husband was turned into a mutant and attacked rookie Leon. Sherry was supposed to escape from the city but was caught and placed into the orphanage by the RPD's chief Brian Irons because he was working with Umbrella and they don't want any eyewitness.
Jack calling hunk a coward for using a flashbang after trying to shoot him several times in the knife fight is too perfect
I mean he also pulled out his gun once too
The "Welcome Leon" sign always makes me a bit emotional because they were so excited for him to come see them, but then the outbreak happened. Those that were lucky to meet Leon aren't alive anymore, it hurts knowing they were so happy he was coming that they made a sign.
Fr, like he was coming to start the next chapter of his life with those guys... just for him to be the last one standing and that next chapter being zombies for 30 years 😢
And it was MARVIN'S idea to welcome Leon 😭😭
Same 😭
Not just a sign, they had a whole welcome party planned too.
also, the 2 "L"s from the original sign are gone
"I didn't hit any of her vitals" cuts to jack just blasting away
Also Grace literally dying before being reanimated 😂
😂
Fuck you mean END? We JUST started 😭
ikr 😭
I finished the game by 3rd day of release 😅
It took me a total of 9:58:00, mainly cause i was working
@chillylevel2572same
Ikr I'm confused too
HUNK is alive btw. He got away after Leon gets distracted in the highest difficulty when HUNK's grunts come in
stop that capitalization
@yunggbonkerhe’s not wrong.
I hope you're right. No way I saw one of my favorite RE characters just die in a boss fight like that
@hamazing913 once you leave the room after you defeat him, wait a minute and go back in and his body is gone
This is how you celebrate 30 years of a franchise. They hit the nostalgia bait hard and they did it awesomely.
I love the ending Jack got too!!! So sweet!!!
I mean theres a good way and a bad way to bait nostalgias. RE9 did it well so idc if they nostalgia bait. As long as it make sense for the story.
@johans3164It is nostalgia, it reached peak nostalgia bait when Hunk appeared for no reason just to die anticlimatically
@luckymark571 he ain't dead tho dude
this game was awesome! only negative for me was it feeling way too much like RE Village for me, but maybe im just not familiar enough with the franchise.
in a weird way, i'm kind of like that Grace never got over her anxiety and "became confident." Instead of her trauma and anxiety disappearing, they remain and yet she pushes through regardless, and I think that's really powerful in its own right.
I agree completely
It doesn't go away, you just become stronger
great take
As someone with a lot of anxiety i couldn't agree more. It never really disappears, you just find coping mechanisms and methods to manage and push through it all. Great great take.
Absolutely! Makes it feel more realistic. Especially for me, as a person with anxiety.
"we come Leon"
🙂↕️
@anubisperry7234ya
A streamer I know just passed away yesterday, really wished he could play this game..
@banggobang5148 bro who
The biggest tell for me that Grace wasn’t the “original” or even a clone is because the video you watch of the little girl in the orphanage is from 1990; Grace wasn’t even born yet lol
She’s 28, it’s 2026 in the game, she was born in 1998.
The flashback in Wrenwood takes place in 2018 and Grace is clearly a teenager there, she can't have been born in 1998 unless the devs really fucked up her timeline.
@DoomCabbit my understanding is that she was just a young adult (20) in college in 2018.
But either way, definitely not born before 1990 lol
Calling it now, RE 10 will probably be 'Extinction', with the X being in the title.
Hope ada wong and the daughter of ethan(forgot the name) would appear, or atleast a sidestory of ada wong before releasing re10
right, rose winters. i agree...
@skellooooo dude if Rose appear, Ethan is sure as hell gonna appear whenever Rose is in danger. not even death can stop Ethan Fucking Winter
@Nguyen763_Zack Even though Ethan's body wasn't buried in his grave, the moment Rose is in danger, his hand is bursting from the ground.
The Resi films have already used Extinction as a title - might not stop them though
Apparently someone did a freecam of the scene with Grace and Alyssa in the hotel and Grace was reading a post about the Baker house incident
Destroying Elpus is just the "Gore of my comfort character" button OH MY GOD
It might be the worst ending in any videogame ever 😭
@freet6955 Worse than Kratos dooming Greece and Mass Effect 3?
@freet6955 Nah it was cool. Just really....really dark
A cure for the virus based weapons is a massive change to the lore of the series.
so glad leon survived, been holding my damn breath for DAYS
I know I was so worried they were just bringing him back to die. So glad I was wrong!!
@filmfangirls9163 i mean he did get slimed out in one of the endings
@filmfangirls9163 Oh, same. I was crying and praying it wouldn’t happen believing they (Capcom) would do that, but I was so happy and relieved that wasn’t the case.
@db_524right?!
@CairozinVal sure but we got him for the whole game when I thought it would be just 5min 😂
You said don't be late so I'm here
Me too^^
Yee yee
2:52:13 I saw someone saying that Leon saw his ResiEvil 2 self in Grace, and I couldn't unsee it during all the playthrough. In the end, he managed to save someone so he wouldn’t have regrets this time, while preventing Grace from going through the same despair and regret he experienced after RE2.
Incredible game. Even if he's not getting any younger, I hope we’ll get to see Leon in a game again !
lol he actually did get younger from the antiviral, now he’s gonna age a lot slower than normal
I will say it kinda retreads the same arc he goes through in re4, at least in the re4 remake. He is so determined to save Ashley because he couldn't save anyone in Racoon City, so in the end he saves her.
@Liam-Hartwellwait is that how it works. I know he said he feels better than ever but did he actually de age?
@thebrailstaplebro what, at 2:47:14 he literally 1 hands the requiem and no recoil?
every single shot from the requiem in the last cut scene, he one hands it lol?
@MaybeIAmThatGuycutscene ≠ gameplay
@MaybeIAmThatGuycutscene ≠ gameplay I’ll die on that hill
"50 is only 14 years away from me" That hit me like a punch in the gut.
Same bro
When Jack said that I muttered "Jack I'm already there man.., I'm as old as Leon.. I'm 49.. born in '77 just like our boy Leon there" Lol
@deldobbs5944 More power to you!!
@annasayaz3141
Thank you!, I may be 49.. but I feel great, I've been able to experience so many great gaming moments over the years. And some of them I can thank Jack and his videos for.. mainly Subnautica, and Elden Ring.
I got about half a year until then. I intend to cake appropriately for half a century's worth. A lot of people never get the privilege to get this far and while I'm not unscathed, I still am here. So cake! 🎂🍰
I honestly think more peaks have been reached during this game due to our main man Leon aura farming and reloading guns in such ways that have us flabbergasted than any adult film has ever caused.
this is honestly the best game ive seen since red dead 2 and tlou 2
what? no
@judecrowe-oneilthat is such a lie this game has plenty of problems
@cicholasnage it’s a joke
cicholasnage that's his opinion. Who are you to say he's not right. No game is perfect
Fun fact at the end when Leon takes off his glove while walking away, he puts on a ring. Our boy might've finally done it
He got wonged up!
Imagine it’s Claire or Ashley or something and not Ada lol
nah it wouldn't be Ashley because she'd still be too young for him so that leaves ada and Claire
Not that much difference tbh, just 7 years of difference. If he tried to date her when they met it’d be pretty weird imo but now that time has passed, it’s above board
Damn I didn't notice at first! You've got good eyes
I'm hoping it's Ada, they have to give this man a happy ending with his lifelong crush already
This resident evil really feels like they took all the best parts of all their games and put them together in something completely new. It feels both nostalgic in a good way and also very original at the same time.
I managed to count 71 of all Leon's one liners, might bump it up to 73 because I feel like I maybe missed some or miscounted
That would make one hell of a drinking game 😂
Can you count all the times the Grace was scared.
Source: Trust me bro
Or they actually took the time, why be a dick about it?
@G@GentlemenFox541stop the cap lil sis
@reaperz5677 that's the whole point lmao
@reaperz5677 That's how a stutter works. It doesn't just happen once in a blue moon. It's a speech impediment.
@reaperz5677 As someone who grew up with a strong stutter and does still have a stutter at times, it's pretty realistic. It tends to happen more during times of stress, excitement, or any other strong emotion.
Young Grace? Are you thinking that flashback to 1990 as that clone (named Chloe) was Grace, because it wasn't
I got “destroy Elpis” on my first run because I trusted Leon and got his ass killed, I was in utter disbelief 😭, so glad it’s not canon
AND YET! he was still rambling crazy eugenics to wesker before wesker killed him. augh. awful.
@thesquiddy19he was Sun downing lol
But he didn’t regret it *that* much, otherwise he would have broadcast to the world that he’d developed an all-cure.
@DeadDancersnah if he did that entire governments would be fighting over control of it. The all cure would definitely start a war.
THIS
Just like when you enter raccoon city and the gas station where Leon ran into Claire, you still see Leon’s jeep still at the gas station
I now need to go back to episode 4 because I totally missed that and I need to see.
i don't think that was the same gas station. it has a different layout inside and there also weren't many buildings around the one in re2 (would be cool though!)
however, i think the tanker truck you see once leon arrives to raccoon city center is the one that the truck driver was in that exploded in the beginning of the game
A little trivia: Raccoon City wasn't bombed by nuclear weapon, but by thermobaric bomb, that's why the games/series never mentioned anything about nuclear radiation
Lowkey not even trivia, just straight up tons of fans spreading misinformation accidentally, the games have never said it was a nuke lol
@lasagnasoul it's because people call any big blast from a single missile a nuke.
Wouldn't a nuke make the virus mutate much worse if they had used one?
i would love to see a resident evil 1 playthrough
Sean is one of those creators that still gives warm a fuzzy vibes a decade later - no fuss no drama, just excited about the game ❤
Like Jack said caseoh is the closest thing you’ll get to golden age RUclips in the modern day
The Feb 1990 birthday, the silver hair... I think Jack is a Grace clone too
Edit: I've learned that the girls aren't Grace clones so nevermind lol. My fault for trusting the words of Zeno & Victor, two verrrrry trustworthy people lol
Zeno and Gideon are rapidly approaching Jack's location.
Grace wasn't born in February 1990, was she? That's just when one of the clones died?
They just wanted Leon to have a good first day
i mean, with the Hunk thing
I've heard that it you leave to room and come back, his body's gone. So he's probably still alive.
Leon coughing just gives me Arthur Morgan flashbacks. Like man, don’t shatter my heart a second time!
Me too. 😭💔
THATS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS SITTING THERE THINKIN MAN I GOT SO SAAAD
As soon as I got to the Leon coughing and getting slow and dizzy part the first thing I thought was “Jacksepticeye is going to hate this”
Omg I know right at that specific point I was scared to continue since I avoided anything related to RE9 so I wasn't spoiled... I had major RDR2 vibes. Thinking
"no no plz don't do it not Leon"
Nathan (Grace's boss) did NOT get enough flack for sending her on that psycho mission, he should be fired for putting her in that danger!!
I mean how was he to know tho( unless he was in on it as we see even the B.S.S.A were in on it to)
He sent her to an active multi murder/death crime scene ALONE 😭😭😭
I mean he though he send her to just analyze some body and the crime scene. He never know that grace would be kidnapped and forced to go through horror
He sent a traumatised desk jockey on her own to the place of her trauma without a single field agent with her. If she went with a field agent and he died, then at least it just went wrong.
yeah i thought he might've been payed off by Gideon or something
1:23:19 “but the government” realest shit that’s even been said I hate them
big preesh !!
When I saw the tyrant emerge. I dunno why I imagined him saying. "Hello. My name is Mr X Jr. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
LMAO that would’ve been so good, especially since Leon has the blonde hero westley vibes going on
21:23 theyre bald and theyre bullying people who have hair
"They all have hair, get them!! "
LMFAOOOOOOO
REAL
Best comment
Leon returning to Kendo's storehouse might be one of the most emotionally significant points in Resident Evil.
I loved it so much I used his shotgun for the remainder of the game because it was so impactful
@gameassassin4654like kendo did huh
Fun fact: Garmr is a Norse mythological term for essentially a hell-hound! They guard the gates of Hel. We named one of our DND character's after them in our long-term game (been going over 10 years now)
The more you know!
it reminded me of god of war ragnarok lol, im shocked jack didnt catch that
@hifeliciahardy when those hounds got loose, somewhere Atreus just sat up in a cold sweat lmao
3:15:44 Yes, please do the RE1 playthrough (gotta fill that gap in your gaming CV)! 🙏
YESSS!!!!
Yes please!!! You gotta play it
Yes! I have never seen or played it, so would love to see more Resi!
But please go for the REmake! (In case that's not what you had in mind.) As much as I love the corniness of the OG, the remake has so much more atmosphere (and Lisa is still my favorite RE "monster").
Wait till he hears about RE0 as well
Buddy I just finished part 4 just to see this glorious notification 😂
LOL im at the end of part 4 🤣. we got so lucky
I can't even watch it due to age verification like I'm 26 ffs😑
Lmao, same, I just finished and refreshed to see this pop up!
Saaame
@theshadowsamurai07thats weird
2:48:08 "she's in a family guy pose" lmao what a serious moment and bro had to turn it into a meme reference
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Petah
The BOW is here
To be fair I did also say the same exact thing when I saw grace fall over like that 🤣🤣
1:02:57 "My thing is *massive*" - Jacksepticeye, 2026
Leon put a ring on his finger at the end! And Grace adopted Emily omg. 😭😭
I love how Leon just became a father figure for grace just like sherry😭❤️
also how grace adopted emily🥹
Yeah but think about how weird it'll be when Emily grows up and looks exactly like Grace
@carl_consumer.of.realitythree girls looking almost identical with white hair and no connection is crazy work 😭
Anyone else notice the welcome banner at 4:12 says: Leon we come?
the crazy thing is that is is just very dense cataracts that emily had : cataract surgery on someone her age should be fairly easy to do but the people in that research centre did not care they only wanted to experiment on her. happy she is alive and fine in the end.
Hey Sean, I just wanted to give a thought on the end there. You mentioned how Grace was sidelined for Leons final boss encounter, but i just thought to myself the entire fight.
"Man, i love Grace"
She was Spencers' hope for the world, she wasnt a bioweapon, and she wasn't some chosen one of prophecy (which Gideon did a good job mislieading us with) she was a normal woman who embodies a final act of atonement for those who have suffered, hope for those are suffering and a Requiem for those who have passed.
Her curing Leon of his illness, which can also represent the weight of his trauma, and letting him go crazy on Gideon felt so gratifying to watch as he couldn't have gotten here without her.
Granted, this is just my headcanon, but it makes me appreciate her so much as a character.
Can't believe Jack skipped the S.T.A.R.S room. So much cool shit in there ;-;
Yeah and he missed tofu 😂
Yeah that was what I was hoping he would do is go to the S.T.A.R.S office
I like how jack wails more mournfully seeing a dissected rat than a human body, LOL.
As a newer resident evil fan, I would LOVE a resident evil 1 play through
Would probably have to start with resident evil 0 first 🤣
idk if you watch coryxkenshin but he has an re1 playlist uploaded from when it was remastered!
Me too. Would love to see Jack play more resident evil. I've never played one but I'm going to now because of this playthrough.
@oakbeeluvsu John Wolfe just replayed 1-4 (and Code Veronica, plus Outbreak Files 1&2 (with Gab and friends)) on his JohnTwolfe channel before Requiem, really good watches with some fun treats.
@oakbeeluvsu game grumps also played it, but i know people find the way arin plays annoying (he basically speedruns it and spoils a lot of things for danny lmao)
also: for anyone looking for alyssa's backstory, gab (sean's girlfriend) played outbreak with some of her friends!
I hope she meets Sherry as well, I feel like the two have a lot in common and would get along very well ^^
@gardenGnosticz I think Sherry will appreciate having someone younger than her around since she's always been the baby of the bunch.
I love this
I loved this game my only grumble is that complete lack of any mention of Claire feels like a real shame especially since Sherry is involved would have been nice to revisit those relationships even just in passing
I think it’s nice we got to see a bit of Sherry in this one. Since Chris was mentioned at the end and Leon gives the subtle hint that he might see him soon, Claire may be involved with the next one.
Especially since if all the survivors of raccoon city were getting sick that would include her!
Noooo Sean - you missed all the S.T.A.R.S office, Barry’s secret stash and the underground Garage! 😨😨😨 You gotta go back…
I was sad that he missed the S.T.A.R.S office. I was looking forward to his reactions.
2:59:20 As someone who has never even seen gameplay of RE1 I would love this
1:05:18
I knew it!!
Plant 43 was the plant creature that Leon fought in the Umbrella Lab and sprayed the pesticide on! The attacking flowers looked very familiar, and it’d make sense why they would “have it out for him.”
Such a cool idea to bring it back, but 30 years older and more bitter, just like Leon. 😂
That flashback as he opens the R.P.D door is really interesting. It’s the break from the rugged action hero and shows his humanity and how deeply the events of Resi ll touched and hurt him
Jack missing one Mr raccoon is the most funniest thing ever especially since he foreshadowed it earlier
"I got a message from Captain Redfield"
Oh Chris and his Redfield bloodline continuation 😂
Charm: "A mysterious charm that works just by holding it."
Jack: "It doesn't say how it works :("
i also feel like another way that Leon got closure was in this journey with Grace. like obviously, the return to Raccoon City was Leon revisiting his greatest regrets, and he even tells Grace as much when he joins back up with her, telling her that he came now because he couldn't make a difference back then.
AGREED.
Finally finished my playthrough so i could finally watch through this! What an amazing game, i loved it so so much
There's no way the 'Welcome Leon' banner stayed so intact.
Zeno wasn't just mean enough to drag it from the other room into the central command desk, he was a petty enough little tryhard that he actually went out, had a new banner made, artificially aged, and then brought there, just to try and fuck with Leon.
Convince me otherwise.
I mean, he does read bratty and dramatic so...I believe it. Headcanon accepted.
I thought the same thing it looked way too new 😂
On the post credits:
"Retrieving the object before they send in the "wolves"" - Chris Redfield's special team is named "Hound Wolf". So they snatched something before Chris could get it.
Chris DLC perhaps? I hope so
Some people think that they (The Connections) were grabbing Zeno's head. Idk what they would need it for when he doesnt even have powers though. Another possibility is that they are grabbing a sample of Elpis, but again, idk what they would need that for when Leon and the gang presumably already nabbed it all and gave it to all the raccoon city survivors.
@zeldagameryt4018 I'm assuming Chris will be the main character of RE10, likely with a Leon, Jill, etc team up
@RealVoidMarvin
1. Make a new Wesker clone from Zeno's head
2. A serum that can cure almost any virus, you could reverse engineer that you will be able make something uncureable.
@EnthusiasticMythicalCrea-jf2urZeno was cured from the virus that gave him his powers though...
I finished the game last night. I know it’s really small, but can we just appreciate Marvin having soda planned alongside the beer and pizza for Leon? That’s so CUTE. I don’t drink, and I love that he thought about that :)
It was so sweet 😭
Fr bro its so sad😢
He had just turned 21 and the department's first impressions were that he was very baby faced.
little did he know leon was hungover on his first day
They got soda for him too, in case he didn't want to drink
After not watching your content for years and finally coming back to watch this, it reminded me of all the times I enjoyed it when I was younger, and it makes me want to buy the game and play it myself.
The creepy little girls are actually so terrifying like the babies and kids that crawl and run at you in dead space, even more scary than most zombie variants for me.
No joke that was the most terrifying part for me in the entire game😭 fuckass lil kids bro😭😭
2:18 i adore that they didn’t remake the flashbacks with the updated graphics for some reason
Been waiting all day for this
Same
Having the password be my name is pretty cool.
Do you also deliver cool one liners between coughing fits? Because it sounds badass.
I agree. Feeling sick all of the time, but having to keep going has been my life for so damn long now. Seeing my boy Leon who I have grown up with since finding this franchise in the nineties pushing through everything he’s been through his whole life, is damn inspiring.
You need some antiviral
This is what i was thinking as well. I immediately related so hard, even to the frustration that comes with it from Sean's perspective lol. It's making me want more horror games built solely around a disabled/chronically ill main character, forcing you to be more creative with how you play through it and cope with the issues that come with it. An example i could think of, while it handles disability etc. differently, a game Sean played pretty recently called "letters of bernard thorne" also handled disability in horror in a pretty good way
Mr X holding that missile like he was saying "Hey leon wanna play catch?"😂 52:08
@db_524 wait when?
Also he didn't go to RPD parking lot.
@PleaseBeHappyAlways there wasn't much in there unless you have the deluxe edition to get the notes from 1998
@mochikohai1875 Ada's Teddy bear charm?
this game was SO GOOD. thank you so much for spending the time to share it with us!
aww he completely missed the S.T.A.R.S. office and Tofu
I was so sad when he didn't check that part of the r.p.d station, he was so thorough the entire game but that part but I'm glad he still enjoyed and played how he wanted
He also missed Kendo's shotgun
tofu scared the shit out of me and i was hoping he would scare sean too lmao
@mochikohai1875 lmao when I first played I didnt even see him I was just confused af cause I could hear him but I didnt know what it was, later I found out it was Tofu running lol
@Goose0722 i thought mr x was still following me around and just waiting to burst through the walls, so when i heard tofu pop out i nearly had a heart attack lmao
Saw it was 5 oclock and IMMEDIATELY went to the channel

"Sorry, but i don't have time to spare."
Aw, really? Not even 7 minutes?
7 minutes. 7 minutes is all I can spare to explain Elpis to you.
Do you have 90 minutes?
I've played most of the Resident Evil games and I still don't know what the 7 Minutes thing is then again I have probably heard it and have just forgotten it and don't remember
@dantespardadmc9050 Whesker says it to Chris in Resident Evil 5
Supertf
Jack playing resident evil 1 would be peak
