Thanks for all of the comparisons. I’m a huge GoPro fan and love my Hero 9. Haven’t had too many issues other than the touchscreen. I was sold after watching your first comparison video. I just placed my order for the Go 2 today. I’ll definitely find a use for it.
After watching you last video and doing some more research, I sold my GoPro Hero9 and bought the InstaGo2. I already have a GoPro Hero7 which has stabilised footage. The Go2 looks great for BTS clips and unusual angles.
My question was gonna be, how often did you have to ‘sync’ or ‘download’ the footage off the GO 2, and do you feel restricted? ALSO how long does that ‘syncing’ take for a 5min or 30min clip?
Great video comparison. Yes please do a video comparison of the Osmo action and the GP9. I have the GP8 and I mostly use the Osmo Action because it’s more reliable and it doesn’t freeze on me. Also, I prefer DJI’s color science. Hope you can make a video. Thanks.
I just got my go 2 and love it honestly the fact that it hasn’t frozen yet, it just my favorite part over my hero 9! By the way I saw which was which in your sunglasses reflection 😅
I thought that too but realized he could edit them any way he wanted so then I wasn’t sure. Actually there were several times I thought the Go footage looked better so that made me second guess myself.

i think if you shoot flat and then color correct and add sharpness in post the gopro will smoke the go2. But the Go2 is very impressive for its price and intended use.
@@urbanrunoff I agree. With some tweaks the video from the Gopro is really good. But all bugs are totally unacceptable. Will look for something else the next time just because of that.
@@urbanrunoff true dat, but how many people you think get GoPro to colour grade it afterwards? Most want film it, maybe clip it in the GoPro's editor and be done with it. The dynamic range in GoPro color mode is pretty weak and you can see that the GO 2 holds highlights and shadows much better. Thank you for making this updated video. So I have to admit I was not sold on GoPro since the beginning. The insta360 Go 2 just seems to work better for my needs. Not everyone uses an action cam the same. I am looking for a POV cam to help me capture shots when I need my hands performing a job. I'm a garage door contractor, so a POV could get me some great perspective shots. But since your last video which was sponsored I actually picked up the DJI Osmo Action Cam. The reason: what you just said in this video. You have a specific camera for specific needs. So eventually I will get the insta360 Go 2. I just waiting for it to go on sale. Great video nonetheless.
Great comparison , thank you. I wished Insta360 GO 2 had a replacible SD card and a recbutton which is not so easy to activate by mistake. If I remember right, GoPro got rid of the Sassion bacause it didnt meet the expected sales numbers.
Thank you for doing this video. I was in the market for the 9, however now Im in the market for a different camera you featured. I just decided bring my 7 back to life and Im happy with it. If GoPro brings back the session Ill grab whatever they offer.
It was easy to see which camera it was! Gopro has some form of face smoothing going on that I don´t like so much. Otherwise I still think the go2 image is over sharpened and Gopro giving a fillier, more cinematic picture. But, to get the best out of gopro I always go with flat profile and then add color and sharpness in post, because the standard profile in GPH9 is crushing the blacks far to much... On a sunny day -0,5 ev is also a must. It´s sad for everyone that want it to be really simple, but if doing so you can get out really good footage. Go2 wins in low light with no competition, the problem for Gopro here is that they have cranked in to many pixels in a small sensor. Thanks for listening to your viewers and doing this "responding to comments" video!

Really loved this format and was super impressed with how well the Go2 handled. Out of sync audio is a HUGE bummer and would make me hate my life if it happened frequently. Really liked how you pointed out that the two cameras serve different purposes. Like you said most of the time you don’t necessarily need that ultra long record time. I also though the point of considering the case to be “two spare batteries” a really good point. There were many times I thought the Go2 looked better and you can always boost saturation and contrast in post. I’ve wondered about putting those deadcat stickies on the case if that would help considerably. Honestly there were times I thought the Go2 sounded more natural as well. I could hear the wind reduction artifacts in the GoPro. The one thing I wish insta360 cameras had was a way to turn down the sharpening. Really great review man! Did you export these into prores?
Insta is absolutely crushing it! I was considering the Insta360 One R (twin) but now the Go 2 has me all confused. Different cameras, but both could do a lot of what I want.
Thanks for pronouncing my name right David!! Great comparison video. I’m still fairly new to this channel but, I’ve almost watched all of your videos on the gopro 9. I think that any veterans to this channel would know your honesty and sincerity. But I can see why ppl might dislike the sponsorship.
Just got the Hero 9. and I agree. There is a place for both cameras. I still use my Gopro Session but will most likely upgrade it to the go 2. Short hikes and neat trips will be Go2, longer all-day excursions, and timewarp stuff will be Hero 9. Might be time to retire the old GoPro 4 session. (although my session battery lasts forever it seems)
Hey David you may have talked about the battery life, I didn’t hear it too we’ll because of the windy noise. What about the battery life between the two cameras? How long does the battery last on both the GoPro 9 and the insta360?
@@DavidManningvlog and it needs to be smaller no one wants a GoPro the size of a DSLR. but if they don't make it smaller they should at least come out with a session I really want to keep getting Gopros but they need to improve their cameras a LOT. so for now I will hold on to my 7 and 5
@@DavidManningvlog Word, I'm entering the DJI guild since yesterday with a Pocket... I'm amazed by how much quality a tiny camera like this can output. These guys know how to make great stuff.
No need to do the GoPro 9 vs. Osmo Action comparison video. There's lots of those about on RUclips. Authentech did one just last month that was really detailed and informative, and that was a follow-up to one he did 6 months ago. Rob Sambles did one as well, back when Hero9 was launched.
@@DavidManningvlog It's your channel man. You do what excites you the most. I just thought there's not much point going over the same ground that a dozen other reviewers did 6 months ago. I'm used to seeing you do something different that others haven't even thought about, or putting a different spin on things. That's why I like your work and keep coming back here. Oh, and the consensus seems to be that Osmo Action wins over Hero9 simply because it's more reliable and has superior usability. :)
I think there's space to do comparisons even if they're already done by someone else. I'm seeing a lot of these guys do their test in their environment which is just walking around, not really meant for what a gopro is used for. It's good that David rides ev and u can see how much the wind affects it and such. I focused on the night shooting aspects and I think everyone brings something different to the table.
I disagree. I would want to hear different opinions on a product like this. Some from people who are experts in video/editing, but also some who just use it day to day. Variety is the spice of life.
I probably wouldn't unless they had a case that didn't rely on magnets to hold it in place. That would be super sketch and pretty sure you would lose it!
Hero 9 on the left, Go 2 on the right. I have to admit that GoPro hasn't wowed me in the last few years and switched to the DJI Osmo Action 2 years ago when I lost my Gopro as it seemed much better value for money for my usage. Haven't been disappointed yet, never looked at an Insta 360 until all these Go2 vids started coming out, looks interesting.
I like this type of video a lot. I really like how insta360 is innovating the action cam market. Like with a modular One r, the tiny go and go 2, and the One x and One x2 have a really sleek shape and design. And they're always improving and they listen.
Hi David, I actually have a question on my mind. Is it actually possible to use the GO2 in its case while charging it. in the Tripod configuration I mean. For example if you would be in a car and you'll put it to film at the road while connected with the usb. Is that a setup which is possible? thanks a lot for the answer! Great videos, keep up the good work
I think that I Insta360 is a great camera, but the go-pro is a great package even tho that there is a drastic price difference. The go-pro defiantly does well in brighter conditions from what I can tell in the other reviews I have seen be curious to see a side by Side light comparison on this channel to!
gopro left and go 2 on right, i can tell go 2's mic not filtering out the wind, but at the se time, go 2 has wider shot and more natural color, as long as go 2 has micro sd slot and multiple mic for wind filter, go 2 is very versatile and makes gopro look like dianosaur....
Hey David again, what's about the potentials of the camera (flat) profils? The videos were ooc, captured in the normal color profil, right? Thank you and have a good ride! :)
The go-2 is a great camera but for very specific use cases... Mine overheats quickly in pro mode, usually overheats before the battery even dies. Plus if you're recording in pro mode the video comes out circular! You have to upload it into the 360 app render it and then download it to get a normal looking video! I also had an audio sync issue with it once recording in HDR video.
Waw. Thank you David for the great comparison video.. I was really impressed about the insta360. Each camera has its + and - and as of me, i guess the selection is depending on what type of use you need . For mountain biking i would go for the GoPro but for hiking and hanging out I might go for the insta360 with a power bank on the bag ;) Thank you. Your videos are rock (thumb up)
I think there's a place for both GoPro and Go 2. Though Go2 can't truly replace GoPro due to limited battery and internal memory. I think where Go2 shines is using it as a B roll or C roll. Go 2 gives video creators a unique angle or perspective that GoPro can't. Go 2 can fit into places that GoPro can't. The convenient factor definitely gives Go 2 an edge and can be used in everyday events recording precious family moments. And if you have a small kid, you could put this on their body and let them have fun. It's a great POV from the kids' perspective.
I must be old school. I had a Hero 3, then got the Session 4. Then a Session 5, the Session 5 freezes up or over heats. I have no problems with the 4. The audio works good on them when biking, which is why I got them. That being said I ordered the 360 Go 2 the other day and am waiting to get started with it. I always enjoy your videos, I learned alot and have purchased several items you’ve suggested.
Insta360 GO2 for the win in this video!! I noticed more than once on the Hero 9 your audio wasn't syncing up. Plus I just love the colour more so on the GO2 over the Hero 9 as I noticed it was more contrasted vs the GO2, I think you should do a 3 camera comparison... Osmo Action vs Go2 vs Hero 9. I have the Osmo Action and it's great for short clips as it does have that 10 minute record time before it stops the clip and starts a new one but yeah I would love to see that comparison between the 3 cameras
I wonder what the aperture is on the Go2 as it seemed to do really well in low light, for such a smell sensor that is impressive. Again easy to tell by the watch band and skin tones looking off. One thing with the GO2 that would be a neat feature is to be able to use it as a webcam when in its case....unless this is a thing and I'm forgetting.
Great comparison! Ultimately, I definitely like the footage of the GoPro better, but to be honest, in a lot of the shots, if I wasn't seeing a side by side comparison, I'd have no idea which is which. But especially in some of the more complex examples (lots of dynamic range), I feel like the GoPro held up better.
First saw the release videos from insta360, couldn't believe what I saw. Can't be that good. Then saw the first reviews, still don't believe it, that tiny camera shouldn't be so good compared to a hero 9. Saw a few more "honest" reviews, can it be that good? Now watching this. How is it this good? It's so small.. Just perfect for travel videos, I don't need replacable batteries, I don't need swappable microsd cards (would be nice though). Love that you can chuck it in the case so you don't need to worry about scratching the lens or screens while having it in your pocket. It's a gamechanger. I was hoping for a new session, but this is just perfect.
If you would need to choose over these 2 cameras, which one would you use for let's say an example, hiking and cycling, but also for casual filming? I think the gopro 9 it's more versatile, but I can't really decide about the price
I was sure I knew which was which footage was which, I was glad to be wrong. Dynamic range and sharpness of the Go 2 was amazing. I would love to see the same type of comparison between the 9 and the Osmo Action. Also, think this was a great video format addressing the comments.
I have not had a gopro since 1 there way to buggy is this still the case with them or should i get the dji osmo or Insta360 Go 2.i need a good cam for my ebikeing rides , my e bike isa focus jam rockshox seat droper shimano xt and all the rest of the good stuff .ps on 56 years old now holding out better than the gopros
This video was very helpful! I'm currently trying to decide if I want to get a Go2 or upgrade to a newer GoPro. I'm still using the GoPro H2 LOL! I photograph skaters and am learning myself and would love to start doing more videos of them too. My current GoPro doesn't have good enough stabilization so definitely need to upgrade. I have been pretty split on which way to go as I felt GoPro wins per spec when you compare the prices. However, I prefer the Go2 video in your comparison here. Not to mention the size and ability to magnetize it to things is pretty great. I do wish it was just a bit cheaper but I think thanks to your video I've made up my mind. Great work and I like the side by side comparison a ton!
Sorry David, I got half way through this but I couldn’t deal with the audio anymore, just shows how much a separate lav mic is needed with action cameras I guess. I have to say though that I’m impressed with the Go2, I thought the image quality was on a par with the GoPro, thanks for the vids 👍
I couldn’t tell the difference in the picture but could in the audio...based on what you said about the Go 2 not able to cancel wind noise...Go 2 is on the right. Why is the Go Pro picture to audio way off?
Good session David. Loved the way you exercised both cameras whilst explaining the issues. Personally I preferred the Go2 for most situations you demonstrated. Wind was more of a problem for the Go2 I agree - maybe a micro muff could help with that! Thanks.
This is a great way to compare the action cameras. I bought a 9 Black and for my motorcycle rides I believe it will be a great all around (only) camera. A Go 2 would be a better choice for more specific uses and would be an excellent additional camera for specific uses where the light weight would be a major factor. I will keep hoping you will do a video on using the Hero 9 as an only camera...
The go 2 doesn't come with 4k but the video quality is still decent! Kind of a shame that you can't shoot great video in low light conditions on those cameras but osmo action doesn't do bad in low light.
I know being water proof or resistance as a minimum but, a the snorkeling/diving/water at La Jolla and even I feel safe with my GH5, G9 and S1R the something that has not weather resistant.
Wowzers! My comment made it into the vid! Thanks David. Also, this vid made me realize how bad the GoPro Color preset is. I'd definitely like to see a comparison in flat mode. But yeah, I don't know how it's doing it, but the Go2 just looks better.
The Go2 looses it small size and weight benefits when putting it into its case for recording. If you do a vlog setup it maybe not matter. I use my GoPro on the bike and there I don’t want to have it in the case. There was a good question about the batter life/Management but too less discussion about this.
I guessed wrong. I kept thinking I like the one on the right of the screen and when you revealed it, I was SHOCKED! Like you said, I expected the GoPro to be way better and to think sometimes the insta360 is better is surprising. Cheese on Everything comment comparing to GoPro Session was gold⭐️. The audio is bad in wind on both but the GoPro has the edge even without the option of a external mic. Loved the “response to comments” style video.
Yeah! I miss the hero sessions 😭.. But the insta is a kind of replacement with better stabilization. Great video, great comparison.... If you still have the hero sessions would be super to compare.... 👍👍👍👍
My guess is that the one on the left is GoPro and the one on the right is the Go 2. Also if I’m right the Go 2 has wayyyy better dynamic range. But also the colors on the GoPro I think I like a little bit better but there both good
The electric car analogy was spot on 👍 The Go2 has some definite short comings and isn’t a direct replacement for a GoPro. What makes the Go2 impressive is that it performs even remotely close to the GoPro and its form factor open up a massive range of possibilities. Ps. There’s even a couple of videos with people getting some awesome macro probe lens like shots by taping a Go2 to a pole, much like how people use that wacky Loawa lens.
Yes, the Go2 is a Session competitor. But the Session is better for resolution and video choices, but the Go2 is better for stabilisation. GoPro were idiots for getting rid of the Session. They don’t seem to realise that there is a thriving online industry of refurbished Sessions. I have a couple of them. The Hero 7 or DJI Action are better for many things, but there are loads of usage scenarios where the small size of the Session 5 rules. I would love to see a comparison between the Go2 and the Session 5. That would be more relevant than Go2 vs Hero 9.
Was honoured to have my comment in your video 🥰 I more mean with the media mod and a shotgun mic etc but I understand that once again puts the price way higher than the go 2, keep creating man, out of all the creators I follow you seem the most honest 🥰 Only real reason I'm sticking to the GoPro is the higher frame rates
I don't have one so I don't know if it's a thing. I have the 128GB model, so 32GB would be no problem while on the go out and about, and then at night move it to a harddrive or something? You could probably charge the camera as well with an external power bank?
the wider field of view gave it away for me and I was watching in disbelieve, how much nicer the go2 footage looks....

Not sure if it was covered and missed. Was the go in the case during filming? This would effect audio and shield against wind
I’m impressed with the go. I think this shows it’s way better than the GoPro. Wow!!
I'm impressed as well man! I did not expect these results
Gopro 10 needs to have a 1" sensor or it's a non-starter tbh. Great video.
A 1" sensor GoPro seems almost inevitable at this point, but I feel like they won't do it and then DJI will😬
@@DavidManningvlog and it needs to be smaller no one wants a GoPro the size of a DSLR. but if they don't make it smaller they should at least come out with a session I really want to keep getting Gopros but they need to improve their cameras a LOT. so for now I will hold on to my 7 and 5
@@DavidManningvlog Word, I'm entering the DJI guild since yesterday with a Pocket... I'm amazed by how much quality a tiny camera like this can output. These guys know how to make great stuff.
Hi HOGO... I'm from the future. GoPro didn't do it.
But... what if I want to do my own tests? Also, who won in those tests?
Hi david. Can you use insta360 go 2 while surfing. Like mount it to your board? Thank you
I probably wouldn't unless they had a case that didn't rely on magnets to hold it in place. That would be super sketch and pretty sure you would lose it!
@@DavidManningvlog i see. thank you for responding! appreciate it! :-)
Great videos, I enjoy the follow-up. Do you have the Go 2 set for ‘no wind reduction’? Mahalo!
I have a question about the magnet attachments. I’m having a hard time trusting the magnet for a camera. How strong is it?
💚 I'm wondering if Insta360 mentioned somewhere the shelf life of the GO 2 batteries (months or years...?)
How often did you have to charge the go 2 during this comparison? How long did the charge last?
What would you recommend, the DJ Osmo or the Go2? Keeping price in mind and overall functionality and performance
The best video comparison so far, thank you so much, i am sold in go2 ,
gopro left and go 2 on right, i can tell go 2's mic not filtering out the wind, but at the se time, go 2 has wider shot and more natural color, as long as go 2 has micro sd slot and multiple mic for wind filter, go 2 is very versatile and makes gopro look like dianosaur....
Hey David again, what's about the potentials of the camera (flat) profils? The videos were ooc, captured in the normal color profil, right? Thank you and have a good ride! :)
Wow, the imagine on the Go 2 is the one I was thinking looked best the whole video! Crazy!
I was very surprised when you put up the names of the camera. How much colour grading did you do with the two clips?
The go-2 is a great camera but for very specific use cases... Mine overheats quickly in pro mode, usually overheats before the battery even dies. Plus if you're recording in pro mode the video comes out circular! You have to upload it into the 360 app render it and then download it to get a normal looking video! I also had an audio sync issue with it once recording in HDR video.
How does the audio change on both if you put some deadcat/windprotector on?
Waw. Thank you David for the great comparison video.. I was really impressed about the insta360. Each camera has its + and - and as of me, i guess the selection is depending on what type of use you need . For mountain biking i would go for the GoPro but for hiking and hanging out I might go for the insta360 with a power bank on the bag ;)
Thank you.
One question can you have a charge the GO2 while you record when its in the case? This will be awesome for a helmet camera too.
what do you suppose we do when you can't replace the battery on the go 2?
Charge it back up👍
@@DavidManningvlog not great for continuous shooting then :(
I must be old school.
Yes make another video Answer viewer questions.good format
David do you find the shape of the go2 odd to mount in different places?
Can you plug in the charge case to an external power supply while filming on the Go2? That would be the fix for long video filming.
Tip: just use a wire twist tie to secure it in the mounts. Helps immensely.
How many times did you have to pop the Go2 back into the case for all that filming?
If I want a action/vlogging camera.. which do I get??? Plsss help
Still happily using my Hero 7 Black , but thinking of adding the Go 2. Thank you for another excellent video!
David another great video and is there any way of extending the battery life on the Insta360 GO 2?
I was sure I knew which was which footage was which, I was glad to be wrong. Dynamic range and sharpness of the Go 2 was amazing. I would love to see the same type of comparison between the 9 and the Osmo Action. Also, think this was a great video format addressing the comments.
I have not had a gopro since 1 there way to buggy is this still the case with them or should i get the dji osmo or Insta360 Go 2.i need a good cam for my ebikeing rides ,
my e bike isa focus jam rockshox seat droper shimano xt and all the rest of the good stuff .ps on 56 years old now holding out better than the gopros
Thanks.
Color me impressed by the low light capabilities of both cameras when you entered the van (if that was SOOC) cos the quality didn't drop by much.
I think at 199, I might consider it. I want to like it at 300 but I'm too picky for that.
The go 2 doesn't come with 4k but the video quality is still decent! Kind of a shame that you can't shoot great video in low light conditions on those cameras but osmo action doesn't do bad in low light.
Can’t get over it. Spent the whole video thinking the image on the right looked better. Win for the Go 2.
Agreed. I thought for sure the GoPro was on the right. Mind blowing that it was the insta.
Was looking at the lighting on your face and it's A LOT better on the Go 2. I am impressed! It's much softer
Really like this style of video!
I know being water proof or resistance as a minimum but, a the snorkeling/diving/water at La Jolla and even I feel safe with my GH5, G9 and S1R the something that has not weather resistant.
I can't guess which one is which, but at 4:01, I _think_ I prefer the shot on the right. And the audio seems better.
...until you got to the windy spot.
Even though it was windy, I can still hear your voice! Impressed by the audio quality.
Wowzers! My comment made it into the vid! Thanks David. Also, this vid made me realize how bad the GoPro Color preset is. I'd definitely like to see a comparison in flat mode. But yeah, I don't know how it's doing it, but the Go2 just looks better.
You know right we can see right trough the reflection which one is the gopro & insta360..
I think the one on the right is the Go 2. You said the angle on the Go 2 Linear was wider. Thanks for the great videos man!
I'm impressed bro you pronounced my last name correctly.
I own a Chevy Volt and it's awesome for my commute, 60k round trip no problem.
Hahah! See, you're the perfect case for it! Most of the time, you don't need more👍
What do you expect the hero 10 look like or preform like? PS I’ve had my hero 9 for months and haven’t had one problem
But also the colors on the GoPro I think I like a little bit better but there both good
The electric car analogy was spot on 👍
The Go2 has some definite short comings and isn’t a direct replacement for a GoPro.
Was honoured to have my comment in your video 🥰 I more mean with the media mod and a shotgun mic etc but I understand that once again puts the price way higher than the go 2, keep creating man, out of all the creators I follow you seem the most honest 🥰
Only real reason I'm sticking to the GoPro is the higher frame rates
The GoPro is definitely the most buggy camera I've ever had, I hope insta 360 kills them off
Another question, can't I just copy all the footage over to my iPhone when the Go2 is full and then carry on filming again? It's that possible?
I don't have one so I don't know if it's a thing. I have the 128GB model, so 32GB would be no problem while on the go out and about, and then at night move it to a harddrive or something? You could probably charge the camera as well with an external power bank?
You can. Same as on Android.
The Insta Go 2 is awesome. Just bought it and also one of those cool hoodies you’re wearing. 👍🏼
