I know Alice has gone through a transformation since these days when she was making music then but a part of me mourns her younger kindred acoustic spirit. The days of busking she had my soul in her palm.
she still busks quite often nowadays, usually in Treptower park! She anounces it on her social media. She typically does it without her band so it would probably be acoustic versions of her newer songs.

This is the saddest song I've ever heard in my life, and it speaks to me on a level so deep in my life and soul that its not possible for anyone to come close to comprehend. Perhaps not even the angel of this earth who wrote it ... but this is the story of my life.
But it is full of hope!

I was living in a flat in Perth in Western Australia and I came home with my girlfriend one day (she had her own flat with some friends) and she saw my flatmate's guitar sitting on the couch and picked it up and started singing. My flatmate came out of another room saying "what's that on the radio?" wondering where this utterly beautiful singing was coming from. There's something very, very special about a woman you love singing to and for you. We never broke up, but moved apart to each do the things we needed to do in our lives, with this "maybe" that might bring us back together at some indeterminate time and place. Never happened. I love the memories of the time we shared together, Amanda. I hope your life has been as wonderful as you deserve.

You gotto actually imagine she wasn't a singer. Makes it more real then to hear her. It's not the same within such frames. Once we think singer or very good singer, things become too taken for granted.

Elou. Only Phoebe can tell you for certain but I think these lyrics are about the important values of life. Here she is specifically refering to money which I believe is a metaphor for all things material. And she refers to red, the colour of blood (perhaps a metaphor for life) but that would probably refer to her values which would be spiritual/immaterial values. This person she sings about is alive but his spirit has died and is unable to address this. She says that deep down this person knows the truth but cannot free themselves.
She offers this person her own values in the hope that this would free him but physically she leaves him.
"His dreams are dead, money makes him poor" The material things in life have crushed his soul and impoverished his life.
"He's been mislead" - He has listened to or taken the example of others.
"Life's flown overhead Overhead Overhead Ohhhhh": He has missed out on what is important and what is otherwise available, She laments this.
"There's a bird trapped in his head but he ignores it instead". His subconscious knows and tries to communicate the reality but his conscious mind stops him acknowledging it.
"his spirit has long fled and now he is hard to the core ". His conscious resolve has crushed the subconscious that knows what is valuable.
"She could have lead him to the rich sky". If he put his trust in his subconscious it (she) could save him. And/or, if he listened to her advice (she) could save him.
"Wonders why she's not around any-more" - He no longer feels the presence of his subconscious but is aware that it is no longer functioning. (And) he may wonder why an actual person has left too.
"He said I can lead you to the red sky If you just stop asking why" This is first person Phoebe or perhaps first person his subconscious or a third person referred to in the first person (sorry complex - I think it will have been an unconscious blend by Phoebe as the song writer). This man offers her what he 'values' but does not want her to question these values or him.
"And I said I will reach deep down inside And stare with you ahead and give you all my red And put it in your head and in your heart" She offers to help him instead with her own values.
And I will part and you will stay" She (or his subconscious) rejects his values
" But I will still dream of one day, might not be so far away" She hopes that he will be freed from his situation soon.

I see a parallel to how a specific “secret society” obtains the philosopher stone. The sky is described at “red” during this ascension to obtain Immortality. Immortality can not be achieved without the alchemical wedding of the Red King and White Queen…. Thus the “red sky”. Actually it’s been described by others of more of a pink sky than red. Of course, i could be making all this up BUT I found this song the day I stumbled upon a recount of a vision of a man thats family controls the banking systems of the world….. coincidence she sings “money makes him poor”? Possibly. However, I know there to be no such thing.
