Mr. Gamble and Huff are my 🎶 musical heros. Also, Mr. Thom Bell .R.I.P who was a major part of their production team that created music that will forever be timeless. ♥ 😍 ♥ TSOP
Fifty years from now, we'll still be jammin' to Gamble & Huff music, just as we enjoy Holland-Dozier-Holland hits today as their oldest hits reach their golden anniversaries. The H-D-H team hit first with Martha and The Vandellas on "Come and Get These Memories" in 1963. I count "Cowboys to Girls" (The Intruders, 1967) as G&H's first national hit. Seemed like everything each team touched turned to gold, beacuse all could produce as well as write for their artists.
The sound of Philadelphia Gamble and Huff along with Thom bell should get the tributes that are also praised for Motown the music was top notch as well as motown both great companiesMotown was the sound of the he sixties and Philly was the sound of the seventies !!!
To me? They were even better than Holland-Dozier-Holland....Philly Soul took over when Motown died...and it was the epitome of old school R&B, and the precursor to Disco!!!
Don't know about old school...I thought Gamble and Huff were ahead of their time with their use of a full orchestra (MFSB) in most of their recordings! At Motown, they had the incomprable Funk Brothers, of course, at H-D-H's call. These two groups and The James Brown Band/Orchestra were the best big bands in Rock/R&B history. Combo-sized groups...give me the Stax house band from Memphis and Fame Studio Group out of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. And those famous studios...The Motown Snakepit, Sigma Sound, King Records, the old Stax converted theater and Fame Studios...what history!
Love my city!! Gamble & Huff, SB Champs, Lots of Philly celebs - Cosby, Will Smith, Kevin Hart, Jill Scott, Pink, Hall & Oates Patti Labelle, and the list goes on. Philly is still winning and has won big. Would not want to live anywhere else.
Don't forget that Philly was the "Birthplace" of American Bandstand, as well as Karen Young (Hot Shot) (RIP), Len Barry (123), Vickie Sue Robinson (Turn The Beat Around), and Hall & Oates in terms of Blue Eyed Soul. It also were pioneers of the LGBT Community.
How did the Ojays reach the Rock and Roll HOF before Gamble and Huff? Does that make sense? They should have been inducted during their first year of eligibility. Period.
We will be listening to, and loving the music produced by Gamble and Huff decades from now, for one simple reason: what they wrote appeals to something deep inside, and is not subject to fad or fashion. Bravo to both of them, and thank you for posting this great video.
From I can see they are the most important musicians of the XX century. There is nobody near to so many hit records. But at same time few people know them.
Ain't it time to induct Patti Labelle. Look at her history. From the early days of creating a sound that influenced the world. No blueprints to be followed. She had raw talent that was showcased on the chillin circuits and the Apollo Theatre. Elton John was once her drummer. She made a great Acid Queen for WHO. She has sung all genres of music with unparalleled showomanship. Rock and Roll of Fame she has earned it!!!!!!
Y'all are very childish for still comparing singers. This person sings too loud, this one is boring, this one this, this one that. Shut that shit up and watch or dont watch the video. Why click on a video of a person you dont like to say stupid shit? It makes no sense. Patti AND Gladys are BOTH great!
It really takes an idiot to believe that "white America" made Soul Train a legendary success...tsk, tsk, tsk, poor fool.....On a positive note, Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, by their own musical history story, were destined to become a musical team. Once united, their genius, creativity, and hard work earned them not only an induction, but the respect and admiration of fans and musicians for generations to come! May God continue to bless and use them to continually touch and inspire humanity!!
I remember buying my first LP ever back in 1970 in Hollywood, California, and it was a Gamble & Huff production......The LP was : " " THE ICE MAN COMETH " " Who else ???? The GREAT Jerry Butler ! ! Never Give You UP ! No matter how you treat me.....................Sierra Cuban, Miami, Florida
The Jaggerz' first LP was produced by Gamble & Huff called 'Introducing The Jaggerz' in 1968. They brought the Blue Eyed Soul to the Philly Sound Machine. The artists they covered would come to their shows to hear them. James Brown came to hear 'that white boy that does my song' A Man's World. He was talking about Billy Maybray Sr.
what was so bad about this performace that she did here? When Patti steps out on the stage to sing people aren't expecting Gladys they are expecting Patti and when she turns it out like she did here that's what her fans expect!
Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff's MUSIC has truly touched my life. Ever since I was young boy their MUSIC has been a great inspiration and will always be a part of me while living on this planet called earth. I hope and pray that their MUSIC is appreciated in heaven. I thank them for not only their contribution to the MUSIC industry but to the human spirit. Thank you Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff and thank you GOD for creating such beautiful MUSIC. - ♫ ♫ Anthony Figgiani ♫ ♫
These guys are a special gift to this world 🌎 They are the reason for the success of so many groups who we love today. O'Jays TP Delfonics Dramatics and the list keep going on and on and on unending. Sad that we lost Mr. Bell who added to the Trinity. They earned this moment in time please continue to write ans play music for us!!!
The best in the business....the pen is mightier than the sword....they won the war with their lyrics...e.g You're my latest, my greatest inspiration by Teddy Pendegrass. Philadelphia Records was my favourite.
Enough cannot be said about Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, and how their wonderful music inspired, encouraged, influenced and entertained so many people over the years throughout the world. An incomparable production duo.True music icons and legends. We thank them for their talents and gift of song.A well deserved award.Well earned.!!!🎷🎹🌎🎺👑🎻🎼👍🎤🌍🎧🎼📷⛅😎💖💖💖🌷🌷🌷💐
In England, these guys have gained "Cult" Status. The Three Degrees are like honorary daughters, and over the years as you know alot of UK Folks have covered their Songs. Simply Red, The Communards (with Jimmy Somerville) and Dusty Springfield. "If You Don't Know Me By Now" was covered by Ricky Gervais as his Role as David Brent on The Office (UK), Sterling Gallacher is former Co-Star sang a snippet on The UK Soap Opera The Doctors.
I think it is shortsighted to argue one writing team over another. Holland-Dozier-Holland contributed some great hits to our culture but of course so did Gamble and Huff. That is the beauty of art. Artists create their own style, sound and feel and the people benefit. Gamble and Huff most def. had their own distinct brand--very unique and funky sound. Holland-Dozier-Holland also hand their own sound. I would argue that both groups of writers enjoyed each others music.
jjjones77....I take nothing away from Dozier & the Holland brothers and what they did at Motown, but Gamble & Huff was the legendary 1-2 punch that put Philly on the map. And as opposed to Dozier & Holland who were really working for Motown, which was already established for 2 years before they walked in the door, Gamble & Huff made it happen under their own label, which was Philadelphia International. Almost you say??? Try BETTER! ;)

As little as I want to walk a similar journey as we should have been able to complete decades ago...my heart is so happy to hear these songs again, so sad that it is again in connection to more loss of valuable life. I continue to love even the haters, my biggest challenge, thankful for my blessings, thankful for the paths I have walked. Sad so many hearts still are closed, thankful we have gifts new and jewels of the past to remind us that God continues to send us the ability to find joy...Thank You, Thank You, Thank You...
Big up to you Brother Ken Gamble and Brother Leon Huff what a phenomenal record production team in Philadelphia. The hits they wrote for the O’Jays, the Jacksons, the Bluenotes and Billy Paul.
Patti was good but the band was tired. If you ever hear her perform this with her band you will notice the difference how the band knows how to roll with her and knows how to pump Patti up and help her to take us Over the Rainbow.

Jim Vulcan --- I'm from Detroit, and I Agree!
They had a better rapport with their Artists then Motown did. The Spinners did better with them then at Motown.
Jim Vulcan both are amazing Tamla and Philly.the music of my life...
Not better or worse than, but in addition to. They were both great songwriting teams.
