Damn right ! on the Heavy Cover Lid i have BCB three Crusader 2 MK1 and 1 MK 2 and 3 Heavy Cover's i have a Crusader 1 in the car 1 in the truck and 1 in my go bag .i love them they work very good !
👍 Thanks for teaching me the process of using the bowl built into the Cooker to hold the fuel. Also, some very informative Comments on your video. I truly learned something new and useful today. Just FYI, only Ladies & Gentlemen drink their instant coffee with cream and sugar - nice touch.
@@ScottishWanderer I've got an old army PLCE bergan, the whole set fits perfectly inside the outer pocket on the front.i just keep it in there and it's always ready when ever I need it
Stu, wicked neat cooking system. I’m a big fan of keeping gear simple, you don’t need much when enjoying time in the woods. Enjoy your videos as always.Best wishes from Maine USA!!
Great vid Stuart. I've had my Crusader mk 1 for a few years now and I agree it's a great bit of kit. Didn't think to just pouring the spirit straight into the bottom holding pot like you did. Dohh. Because as you know you can't fit a Trangia Spirit burner in there, I use a Trangia Gel burner, which fits a treat. Keep up the great vids mate.
@@ryand141 The Trangia spirit burner doesn't but the Trangia gel burner does. If you want to use the Trangia spirit burner you'll have to get the Crusader Mk 11
Yes the Heavy Covers are brilliant.. glad I got one many years ago.. even then I had to wait as they only made small numbers for the Crusader, and many more for the GI type cups... I ordered direct from the guy at the Canteen Shop .. Never used the stove part as I prefer to just crank up the Pocket rocket as it boils so much faster.. The plastic cup is also a bit I've never seen the point in... I just drink out of the Crusader... I've got my stuff in an MTP Osprey pouch I picked up as it has Molle straps on the back so I can fix it the front of the webbing on my pack..
I have the mk2 BCB cook kit, been using it today great bit of kit but it’s been out done nower days by super compact titanium kits, always be a place for mine though, great display of the field ready cook kit pal
Hi glyn i have the mk2 as well got the webtex on the canteen cup is much smaller like the us ones i should bring the 3 of them out one day and make a video of them you dont many people use them now a days
I had to watch this Stuart - cracking bit of kit. I used mine last weekend. It's always out. It's bomb proof isn't it? Good video - cool end/been up there. Mark
Hi mark got this 3 years ago to be honest i have not used it much used it loads the first year i had mine but the last 2 years i have been using titanium i have the mk2 set and the web-tex one should use them more they are bomb proof you dont see many people useing them now
Stick a coil of glass fibre rope like the stuff used for insulating joint on wood burners into the little hexi trough and tip the Meths into that ... works better
Scottish Wanderer - Wild Camping And Cooking no worries, just a thought I’d second the comment on the eBay guys lids, he makes them for either Mk1 or 2 specifically, with or without drain holes and they are perfect. I’ve got both mk1 and 2 rigs and got a lid from him for each. It does help the boil times, fuel used etc also handy on a fire to stop ash landing in the boil. Keep it up mate and enjoy the snow. Not snowing here in SW France :-)
I used my Mark I set last week wild camping with my son on the Isle of Gigha. Bullet proof bit of kit. What cookset do you use the most often if not the Crusader ? I bought a Yellowstone thingy a year or so ago too from your recommendation and this has never let me down either. Great vid Stuart.
The crusader cup, or something like it, was available for purchase way back in the day, I remember seeing them advertised in Combat & Survival magazines in the late 80s, the idea then being that it was seen as a better alternative to the plastic 58 pattern mug, not really as an accompaniment to it. The price even back then was around £20 which was a helluva lot. There were also warry black mess tins available, similarly expensive. I paid over £20 for a Norgie, and over £50 for a knock-off SAS windproof smock, the good ones were over £100. Goretex bivvy bags back then were more than £100. It's great that nowadays prices are lower plus the internet means you can get your hands on all kind of surplus kit and mix and match according to preferences for bushcrafting & wild camping. Anyway I wonder if anyone out there knows when the BCB Crusader kit started to become standard issue? Also are mess tins still issue? Or did they stop when they started issuing the BCB Crusader kit?
If the Brits did anything like the Americans, the end of the mess kit issuance came with the widespread availability of MREs. We still issue our metal canteen cups and stoves though. Most soldiers are not well versed in using them though.
A proven bit of kit that Stuart, got mine when they were first issued and as a basic multi fuel cook system it can't be beat mate, look for the arrow for genuine issue gear, the NATO stock number for British kit is 99 👍🇬🇧
thanks paul i got that kit for £10 the lot i think its a great bargain had the set for 3 years to be honest i have not used it much i have the mk2 cookset as well and the web-tex cooking system the web-tex canteen cup is smaller like the us ones was out with eddie in glasgow yesterday me and my olly was going to climb a mountain near loch lomond left my house it was dry got to loch lomond the rain was that bad the roads where flooded my olly hates rain

Trangia burner will fit in Mark II cook base. Mark I mug fits Mark II base. A Pathfinder Cook set SS lid work OK as a plastic lid substitute.
Used loads of systems but nothing beats the Osprey, cracking bit of kit!
