Yeah so like “finding the spark again” with past loves you don’t wear anymore. Styling an item in a way you never have that suits your current style better.
I feel like our tendencies when it comes to collecting clothes are kind of similar. I also thrift a lot and sort of collect clothing and especially fancy things that are 100% linen, silk, wool, cashmere, suede, etc. I recently made the crazy and impulsive decision to go through all of my clothing and accessories, and to be picky about it. I was having a lot of thoughts about how much clothing I had that I never wore, and felt like they weren't being utilized or used to their potential, and I felt bad about that, and wanted to change that. I got rid of a lot of my "gems" and everything that I knew wasn't being worn enough to justify keeping it, and made it so I now have pretty much one of every type of thing...one blazer, one sweater vest, one white pair of balloon jeans, one of blue medium wash, one dark wash vintage pair of Calvin Klein jeans, two pairs of courderoys, one pair of black skinnies, you get the idea. (Though my overalls collection pretty much completely stayed. Got rid of one maybe two pairs, but still have 5-6 pairs...although there ARE different types of overalls really, but anyway). Now I feel excited about all of the pieces I have. And if I find that I don't give them the wear they deserve, then next spring I will donate/sell them. I feel so much more intentional about my clothing choices now, and when I thrift, I am much more picky about what I buy, often not buying any clothes. I am someone who gets overwhelmed with too many options and it stifles my creativity. Having less clothing is just so much more satisfying to me. It's almost like a weight has been lifted, which I'm sure you're probably feeling after your closet purge as well:) ...P.S. this is my first ever RUclips comment. I've gone so many years just lurking and this feels so weird. Sorry for my long and super rambly comment.
I am definitely trying this! Thank you for the insight. I do the exact same thing with fancy materials. I feel like they are one of a kind finds that I must cherish even if I dont wear them enough. I also dont want to have so many choices. Thank you❤
10/10 love the hanger trick. It really keeps me from having too much if I let go of items when I notice too few hangers. I’ve also forced a “limit” on my clothes by keeping them all out all year. I WILL buy cream or camel sweaters if I don’t see them all the time. It’s like I have selective memory and just buy them when I’m out if I don’t have evidence in my face that I don’t need any more.

@@CarrieDayton remember, you can choose the size of it and the types of items in your capsule. You don’t have to follow anyone’s specific rules, just pick items you know you wouldn’t mind wearing again and again + mix well with other clothes you wear constantly.
@CarrieDayton I would love to see a capsule wardrobe even if it's just a hypothetical version like "what would I put in a capsule wardrobe IF I were to do one." Also if we could see an updated video on the best style/brand for each clothing category for mid to plus sizes like jeans, basics, jackets etc and what your favorites are!
A hint for anyone who want to clean out their wardrobe i recommend putting all of your hangers backwards, and then when you wear something and are putting it away put the hanger back in normally and after like 4-6 months just get rid of everything that is on the hangers that are backwards

I'm switching my summer to winter clothes around now too. I have a lot of clothes that I don't wear a lot and just kinda like them, but don't love them so I want to get rid of them, but I think well maybe I'll wear it one day, or maybe I should save them for a random time I need old clothes that can get messed up, or shirts that are too big for me now I can wear as pajama shirts, etc.. I was staring at this huge maybe pile on my floor and it finally hit me to put them in vacuum storage bags. I don't have to worry about regret but I don't have to deal with the clutter

A little trick for purging your closet is to hang the hangers the other way (so you lift it backwards to take it off). Then when you wear something, rehang them normally. You’ll see easily what you haven’t worn since the last purge. I desperately need to do mine 😩

We moved overseas a few years ago and I totally purged everything - kitchen, decor, clothes! I have 2 regrets; a pair of black motorcycle boots that I loved for years but hardly wore anymore because they started to hurt, and a knee high pair of boots in red patent leather! I just figured I didn't wear them much, but now I miss them. I try to imagine that someone has found them at a thrift store and felt like "SCORE" and those boots are now happily living their best life on someone else's feet. sigh
