  • Mental prayer, often referred to as contemplative prayer or meditation, is a profound and intimate form of communication with God. It involves engaging the mind, heart, and soul in a dialogue with the divine, seeking deeper understanding, connection, and spiritual growth. Mental prayer is often considered essential for individuals striving to cultivate holiness and virtue in their lives. Drawing from the wisdom of St. Alphonsus Liguori, Fr. Columba Jordan CFR provides practical guidance on initiating and deepening mental prayer.

Thank you for sharing this way to pray. During Lent this year I decided to read The Lord by Romano Guardini each morning and goodness-the fruits from doing that! I would only read 1-max 2 chapters at a time. They are short but so rich and I would often just stop midway through reading and pray and ponder into something he had written and such rich ideas/movements of the heart/deeper perspectives often came from that time. And yes!! Pope Benedict's spiritual writings constantly make me stop, put down the book and sit in wonder of something I have read. And then sometimes I write about what the movement brings me, or even draw something because it's almost easier to represent visually than in the written word. Such richness! I also started dog-earing pages in Pope Benedict's books that had points that were so profound but problem was, I was doing that to every other page :) I will try to follow the specific steps you suggested. I love your videos-they always uplift me no matter how I am feeling. They help reorient me to God.

Like all of Father's reflections and insights, this new series is excellent. But i definitely prefer no background music. Father's speaking voice is rich and engaging and the music in the background, at least for me, only distracts. For my vote, simple is better.
