I apologize for two mistakes: 1) It's not Portland County but Multnomah County, and 2) It's not Vancouver River but Columbia River. Kudos to Ronald Chase for pointing this out.
Just drove from Orange County, CA to Portland, OR one way in late September this year (2023) for the first time again after twenty long years, and some things never change, including this route. The drive between Redding and Yreka continues to be one of the most beautiful I've ever seen - I've road tripped through 33 states...and once you drive through Ashland in southern Oregon on up to Roseburg or so, ugh just simply gorgeous, enough to bring tears to your eyes its so naturally beautiful. Thank you for this, I love it on half speed so I can soak it up even more.
In 1980 i was 9, moved from LA to Eugene and took this same route, even the same exit you took to stop off for the night, at 1:23:00 - very nostalgic for me to watch this
I've done the 5 drive from South Orange County, CA to PDX so many times it's like the back of my hand. I live in OC but my WHOLE family lives in PDX. It's down right shitty in some places and down right magical in others.
I’m a truck driver. I drive up and down 5 ALL the time (stopped at exit 57 tonight in Washington watching this) Weird to see it like this. Chances are you may have passed me during your recording of this last year or whenever it was you filmed this!
@@fanjin I’m heading down 5 tomorrow (from Portland) This load goes to Reno so I’ll cut across near Weed and go down through Susanville and into Nevada.
In Montana, there's a Lewis and Clark county. In Washington there is a Lewis and Clark county with another county separating them, I guess after such a long trip they couldn't stand eachother.
14:23 back in the day, I used to take my Saturn SL1 up that hill. I could do 55 with AC 60 w/o AC. I used to hate crawling up that hill. Anything and everything was faster than me.
The video quality for this is really nice! Also helps having been able to clinch 2/3rds of I-5 over the years. What camera is that, it seems to be the VIOFO A139 but I'm not sure. Been considering upgrading my dashcam once it dies out, currently have a A119 V3.
The raw speed video has the maximum quality. Due to YT's bitrate limit, this 10x speed version doesn't have the best quality if you pause on each frame.
Sorry but this is a one-way road trip as I moved from San Diego to Seattle. If I have time to make the southbound video, perhaps I will consider US Route 101 and California Route 1 instead of Interstate 5 because they sit by the coast.
@@fanjin San Diego to Seattle? 🥲 Yikes! I know it's great in so many ways... I truly love the PNW....but there's nothing like San Diego, Orange County my friend!! I'm in Dana Point, it's heaven! I'm sure you're doing just fine and dandy though. Thanks for the vid. Very good!

I-5 in N. CA and S. OR is amazing! I also love how this freeway interacts with Portland and Seattle giving such great vistas of those cities.

Well Done! I lived in both Seattle in the early 2000s as well as San Diego the mid 2010s so this video gives me memories!

Ahh you got our Northgate Station in Seattle right before it was finished! Loved watching this drive, and I love making this drive when I can

If you've ever wondered what it was like to drive at the speed of a commercial airliner, this is it. Awesome video!
Correction: it's not Portland County, it's Multnomah County

This guy deserves more subs
Epic video. Thanks for doing this.

I shared your pain of driving a Saturn SL 1 and not being able to accelerate up a hill
Excellent job Fan Jim!
Beautiful
great video. I'd like to see a 7x speed video to take in more of the scenery
sacremento valley very beautufull landscape ı think.
Hmmm....what the world would look like if we could drive 550 mph up the interstates without killing ourselves
Multnomah County is the county Portland is in
I'm currently watching this in .25 speed so I can feel like I'm there, I love the west coast

A bit earlier from 11:30 is there a reason why u took I-10 west then I-10 east back to I-5 north?
I was heading to UCLA for lunch.
@@fanjin ok makes sense so what exit did u take for I-10 then
Too bad you didn’t continue to Vancouver, BC, you were almost there
I feel pity too. During the pandemic I could neither enter Canada nor return to the US as a foreigner.

Very Neat! :)
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY THAT’S WHERE I LIVE
I live off of I-5, so some of it i recognized :)
Looks like everyone is doing 150mph
500
Nice!

Well you couldn't take a trip like that nawadays. The gas prices are murder.
Request: Interstate 5 South Time Lapse from US-Canada border to US-Mexico border

This is hypnotic. I could sit and just watch this for the next hour.
