Molly, thank you for showing the public how easy this particular polka dance step can be. It is a favorite of many, young & old. Since the polka music & dance are world reknowned, & as varied, I hope you will continue your indepth research & study & bring that vast knowledge to everyone around the world. I personally would like to see that for a "comparison between those polka dances of the HOP & those of the STOMP". I love them both & have seen old styles incorrporate a bit of each, hop & stomp. They are both very fun!! The Oberek may probably be the most commonly known for a foot stomp, but of course there are group polka 'circle or square' dances using foot stomp as well as hop. I love what you are doing. Keep up the great work & I hope you have many followers to come!
Thank you Mollie B.! I'm teaching an intro to Polka class tomorrow online, and found your lesson here. Great class. I'd be interested to learn more about any "California style Polka" since that's where I am. And North Dakota, since that's where my Dad grew up. Hello to all my Knudtson cousins up there in Minot & Donnybrook! I've been doing Polka for many decades, but mostly the basic right turning Polka. Also I've choreographed a derivation of the "Silly Song" Polka from Disney movie Snow White & 7 Dwarves. Thanks for your inspiration. I shall quote you in my lesson tomorrow.
Yay! We've tried to figure out how to do this when we saw it on the Mollie B. show, but it's not that intuitive. I took a Polka Hop class 10+ years ago in the Midwest and could not catch on at the time. Really great lesson here, so big thanks to Mollie and the Heritage Center!
Found this through a post in Dance-Forums. Somehow I learned polka growing up around Pittsburgh, PA. I lived in Wisconsin and Ohio, and am now in the Northwest; so it's great to hear about the various styles around the country. Looks like I'm a new Molly B fan.
Grew up in NY/NJ and my family always did the hop. Dad would sometimes add a stomp to the hop or do the very low hop/almost walking style (he said it was Burgenlander)
Minnesota polka hop is nice dance and your home state does it well. To be fair to Cleveland from the 1960s to about 2000 there was a vibrant local Polish dance scene and many ethnic Poles in the area that knew how to dance. They were quick and light on their feet. Growing up back then you would be laughed at if you were sliding or dragging your feet. The only time we saw that was with the Slovak tuba bands oomph pa pa. But times have changed . Poles far and few in greater Cleveland. Gen Xers never learned how to dance a polka, so probably what you are now seeing in your travels: 90 yr old timers who cant dance like used to and unschooled young generation dragging their feet because they don't know any better.
Fun and light-looking, somewhat similar to the Finnish polka danced in Finnish dance venues and folk music events. In Finnish walking, only more work is done on chips and music is also faster.
Iowa shuffles for the most part. Except for a few parts up in the north east corner. Where a few cheese heads learned to swim the Mississippi hahahahaaaa
There is an annual polka festival in my town. Went for the first time a few years ago and my Polish Lithuanian wife tried teaching me how to polka dance. I'm 6'5" tall and never danced. I probably looked pretty stupid but I had a blast. Lesson learned - dance like no one is watching, even if you are 6' 5" with two size 13 left feet....
I started dancing. Now I am doing the polka hop and I did not even know it. I thought I had something new when I said I was gonna do my own thing and start polka hopping lol
I used to see her in Denver on rfdtv tv via directv.com satellite TV. I can't find her now on comast. Is her show off the air now? I do not have access to rfdtv tv on comcast, is it available streaming? Thanks for any replies!
+B MasterB Sorry for late reply. Definately Back to the Future 3: people at the town festival were dancing to ZZ Top. I remember it from when I saw the film years ago because it looked such fun. This video reminded me of it.
Now, if ya ever been to a cowboy wedding out in the back country and seen a cowboy polka.. imagine fifty pairs of cowboy boots all stompin and jumpin at the same time and some old Uki on stage with a chordeen and a fiddle. Now you're talkin. Add lots of good rye whiskey for added fun. Oh, and expect a few punch ups too. No such thing as a proper cowboy wedding without a few good fights.
Pulaski Wi, here!! We Love the Polka in Pulaski!! Awesome 👏 dancing 💃
I always liked polka music, but never enjoyed watching others do it. Molly B. has changed that. Her Christmas special is amazing.

YOU DO 2 HOPS ON ONE SAME/LEG?
I would like to do that. I live in the San Fernando Valley. Any polka groups here?
Bravo from Australia 2015 xoxo

I miss Mollie B on tv. bring back rfd tv..

check out the squeezeboxband website....hope this helps a little bit.
Get ready kids!
She makes it look easy. She has rhythm. What about us poor shmucks that have no rhythm? My Mom could do this, but may dad- forget about it.
You confuse them. Left, right, left. Start it slow and then worry about the hop.
Is the Polka Hop the dance in Back To The Future 3?
that movie sequel was set in the old west. Maybe you are thinking of Pocahontas or should I say "Polkahontas".
B MasterB I miss it sooooo much too!
+B MasterB Sorry for late reply.
