    Join me on the start of this new adventure.
    I've needed a basecamp for a long time now, I finally found this awesome spot that I can camp at, practice bushcraft, and have fun.
    I snowshoe through the woods to find a suitable location for the fort.
    First task is to dig through the deep snow until I get close to the ground. Than I need to remove all the branches and trees in the way.
    I make a bushcraft bed, and cook up some lunch, all while contemplating my favorite way to build the fort.
    I string up a tarp for protection from a heavy snowfall, but ultimately decide I do not want to leave the tarp there permanently.
    Next time at the fort I will be winter camping.

    Just home from filming Episode 2 of A FORT IN THE WOODS......big changes to the fort, and my first overnighter at the fort.
    I am very excited about this series, I feel extremely energized about going out there, improving the fort and filming it.
    Thank you all for allowing me the opportunity to do this :)

    YEAH BUDDY! Joe over here fueling my camping/bush craft addiction! Thank the lord! I am sooo happy to see you back at it and planning to do an entire series. Hopefully there are lots of episodes and I hope you upload them often. I really hope people depreciate how much you go through just to make a video. You drive so many miles and hours away from your home and family just to be able to be in a suitable forest for our and your enjoyment. Also breaking the fourth wall a bit here SPOILERS. You put the camera down and then walk past it just for a shot, only having to walk all the way back to pick up the camera. Now personally I find this silly and a waste of time but thats just me. Now to mention the THOUSANDS of dollars you have spent to bring us better quality videos in more extreme conditions or far away trips. You are amazing and I love watching your videos. You inspire so many to just get out and enjoy the outdoors. I for one am starting my own Outdoors content this summer as I am making it my goal to get out and go camping, fishing and hunting as much as I can. Due to my health issues it will be a challenge and probably very painful but to me the enjoyment will be worth it. Keep on making the great videos and dont be afraid to try new things! God Bless!

      Joe's skills as a videographer are outstanding, so you would be well served to take a page from his book and if you do decide to make videos, offer some interesting content. Use different camera angles and note that the long shots are part of this. If you don't take the time, your videos will be boring.

    Help me make Joe aware of this!
    Please, please, please! Joe, watch your lifting technique... I don't want to sound like a "know-better", but you might ruin your back over time using your back that much when lifting. Saw it when you lifted rocks on your canoo solo-trip and now lifting that cut-down tree.
    All the best ❄ 🇧🇻

    • @GiacomoMiola
      @GiacomoMiola 5 лет назад +2

      Yes man that is an underrated problem

    • @jayaregee3
      @jayaregee3 5 лет назад +1

      I'm no physical therapist by any stretch of the imagination but if we continue to isolate the muscles in the back due to using legs primarily in lifting situations, will that not cause a weakness in the core muscles and create a greater likelihood of injury? I focus on using my back a great amount in my activities. I've been doing it for many years and have never had an issue. Just one example but it's always worked for me.

    • @travisburks1
      @travisburks1 5 лет назад +3

      You're right, your back should be used for lifting; just not only the back. If you engage the posterior chain you will be stronger and safer. This includes your lower back, glutes, and hamstrings. Use them all together, in-sync.

    This is exactly why I ultimately decided to wait for spring to build my bushcraft camp! I went up to my spot one day last week when it was over 40F outside and there was still 2-3 feet of snow in the woods! One thing that I did that helped get me down to the actual ground quickly and cleanly was that I decided to right away dig a fire pit in the snow in the middle of my chosen area. That had the net effect of melting away a ton of snow, right to the bare ground.

    Hi Joe and family. I write this with sadness in my heart. I'm not on Instagram but my son sent me a video that you posted and I'd like to say how sorry i am to hear that Scout is no longer with us. I hope that it will be of some comfort to you to know that he gave you so much love and he isn't suffering anymore. He was loved by thousands of people around the world and will be missed by all. My deepest sympathies go out to you Joe. Remember the great time's you shared together. And I know that whenever you are out there doing what you do best Scout will be with you always. Enjoying the great outdoors with you like he always did in life. God bless you Scout and rest in peace. 😥. Wayne (From the U.K 🇬🇧)

    We get so much snow here that I've NEVER even seen a pair of snowshoes. Last January we got a record snow fall of 5 inches and record low of 13°F. I live 90 minutes inland from the Gulf of Mexico in the state of Mississippi. I am really looking forward to your base camp series Joe. I am 37 weeks pregnant and so I have to wait until I can start my own yt bushcraft and outdoors channel.

    Great video. Where im at right now is wide open plains. Snow only at 14 inches so i use my small supply pulk to make snow blocks. Its 14 inches deep by 30 inches long by 18 inches wide. Pack the snow hard and ya get nice size building blocks. My grandkids enjoy the fort and they learn how to build a snow shelter. I just use a blue tarp over it. Hiking staffs are the tarp poles. Good on ya for just playing with your inner kid skills. Repetition build memory skills.
