❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
YES! Been waiting for this one for a long time! Another english monarch off the list! Please matilda next! The matriach of the Plantagenets!
Yes please!
I too would be happy if you would do Matilda next. Thank you for your excellent channel
If one reads Brother Cadfaels chronicles ( novel series) there is a good account Of the Steven- Matilda conflict.
Honestly why do I even give myself a bedtime? I never go to bed at that time, I always watch the newest upload from The People Profiles first 😍❤️🙈
Keep the computer in your bedroom, then you can fall asleep to, and absorb lots of interesting facts in videos and audiobooks.
Shut your mouth how dare you as I do the same thing
I regurgitate these facts in the public nobody likes me everybody hates me thank you whatever master of these dogs of information race to you have cost me countless actual human interactions
I love this voice. So well to understand as a non native speaker
Great! I’ve been wondering when the next entry on the Normans would come :)
I hope Matilda comes next- Ik she wasn’t Queen, but she was the rightful heir, and came so close! Besides, she definitely shaped History!
Hi friend. I just got done watching A video on this Japanese soldier who was still fighting ww2.
The whole war we're supposed to pay for and believe is imaginary?!?!
Yes we love the beautiful scenery and historic account.
@@DarthDread-oh2nethank you for your service, sorry they were using plausible deniability as a drug for sanctions enforcement
Love how this channel legit took over from Biographics.
They got rid of the legend.
Biographies is trash that dude has annoying delivery
@@Nobodyman6979Is that the guy with the shaved head and the glasses?
@@made-line7627 Yes.

Really a great channel, it deserves millions of subs
Rich and successful people wrote history…. Don’t think that this is all true. Good episode though!
Still waiting and hoping to see a video on French king Philip Augustus. Still good video and enjoyable to watch
You will get your wish.
Oh my god, I've been waiting for the Stephen episode for ages. Think he was the only king or queen from William I to Mary II you hadn't made an episode on (can't remember if there's a Richard III one, but every other one has been covered) and it's been an absolute joy. The run of Stuart monarchs (and Cromwell) added recently was so good.
Was hoping for it the week after the Henry I one but well worth the wait. They have been absolutely fantastic to listen to. Will give them all a second listen soon.
Fascinating look at post conquest English. Notice the controlled pacing of the storytelling; not an over caffeinated presentation which mar many such efforts
In total agreement.
Watching from Mackinac Island Michigan
0:56 "Blois in the Loire", try repeating that 10 times as fast as you can. For me it just ends with a "blargh!" sound.
Never heard of him but, Im here for it.
If you want to know more about Stephen and Henry; watch the devils crown.
Étienne, Comes de Blois as he was referred to in one manuscript.
Yay! Was wondering when they'd do King Stephen!!! 🥳 🥳 🥳 🎉 🎉🎉
I've got a playlist of all of your channel's English/British monarchs from Edward the Confessor onward: I was so excited to see Stephen pop up! Thank you! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Harold Godwinson at some point.
Real life Aegon the 2nd has arrived.
Hail queen rhaenera
YOU guys are the Best! Please make a video on Philip II Augustus soon. Hearth please! HUGE fan ❤❤❤❤
I love these videos, this reminds me of pillars of the earth
This particular video is actually set in the very period of The Pillars of The Earth and the civil war between Matilda and Stephen first and Stephen and Henry then forms the historical the backdrop of that story. Absolutely fascinating - could listen to these video for hours...by far my favourite chamnel on RUclips
The true historically backdrop of The Pillars of the Earth...An absolutely fascinating period of English and French history brilliantly brought to life by this amazining video.
As always, such a great presentation....thank you!
Fascinating, and easy to follow although I had to take notes (so many Henrys, Matildas and Williams). New subscriber.
Your documentaries are awesome
Indeed need this video
finally! been waiting for ages for this one! thank you!
I'm American and only knew about this monarch from reading Pillars of the Earth.
There is a book titled When Christ and His Saints Slept by Sharon Penman - a beautifully written story about King Stephen and Empress Maud (Matilda).
I read the book and now enjoy listening very much. Thank you.
This will help me sleep let's go justice 🎉
Steven violated his oath to support his cousin, Matilda. That violation was the foundation upon the Anarchy was based. His culpability is absolute.
Very interested in this one. Ty for the content.
STEPHAN OF BLOIS
Thanks for this history
Thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed your clear explanation of this (to me) poorly understood period in English history. I am keen to check out the rest of your channel.
Fascinating!!!
This was a fantastic, though very stream-lined version of Stephen's life. I get why you made that choice, otherwise we'd be here for hours. For those that might be interested in the nitty gritty of the politics and battles moving around the chess board might I suggest "When Christ and his Saints Slept" by Sharon Kay Penman? It is historical fiction but it is dense with how much history she includes. Anyway, hoping for one about Matilda in the near future!
Enjoyed this
Can you go back in order on the monarchy please
This video is about Stephen who became King of England after the death of his uncle Henry I in 1135 - is likely interesting.. And about Mathilda, Stephen's cousin is really wonderful ,too. I am always curious to watching everything about them (Stephen and Matilda) as I have my big interests in.. I have my good wishes to know more about Henry V, the last Salian Holy Roman Emperor who was the husband of the young Mathilda who was called Empress Matilda. Thanks!!! ❤🙏🙏🙏🙏 By the way, have the nice weekend!!!
Another English King/Ruler 🤴
Nice to have one of them for a change 👌
I hope you do one about JFK & RFK at some point, I just find those two very fascinating.
Yes. I needed this episode lol
Question: Stephen gets listed as an official monarch because he was an anointed king. Matilda does not because she was not anointed. But Edward V is listed as an official monarch and he was never anointed, spending.most of his reign in a tower.
Throw King Louis I (1216-17) into the mix and you realise it's occasionally a bit arbitrary. My opinion is to be acknowledged as a ruling monarch a king, or queen, has to be sole incumbent of the throne. So Edward V would be as otherwise there would be a gap between the death of Edward IV and Richard III seizing the throne. Matilda can't be Queen of England because Stephen was still King, This theory does get a bit murky when Henry VI and Edward IV were around I'll admit but I think it holds for most English monarchs from Athelstan onwards.
@@TheSilentPrince-mt5mx True. i also think it's about ruling the whole of England. Edward V was king of all of England. Matilda only ruled part of the country and never the capital
Where is the gentleman that narrated the word war ii series last year? His voice is heavenly! ❤
Can you do the Henry’s would be interesting
One of many ‘accidents’ that occurred when hunting in the New Forest…
King Stephen was followed by seeveral of my ancestors as minor nobles but they switched when Henry took over.
Too many jewels and gold and wool to survive the white ship. Steven was a smart one...he got off.
That was the most "convenient" hunting accident in history. And the king was killed by an arrow shot by one of the best archers in the realm, with his successor just happening to be nearby to grab the crown...
Could you please cover Ferdinand Marcos? 🤞🏻
The Original House/Dance Of The Dragons.
I know this story really well. Some people wonder if he and Maude had a baby who grew up to be Henry II. Early conspiracy theories.
House of the dragon yo
Can u make a video about Adolf Hitler please 🙏?
King Steven was in the right. No one at that time or any other time are particularly willing to suffer a female ruler..
Tito?
In a land far far away in a time far far in the future, all these feuding lords would combine together to create me😂.
Scottish 20%, Norwegian 16%, German 15%, Irish 15%, English 14%, Sweedish/Danish 12%, Welsh 5%, French 2% Finnish 1%
Proven descendant of Henry IV.
When did he write The Shining?
Okay, conspiracy alert! Did the captain of the ship survive the sinking of the white ship? And the crew members? Maybe Steven paid him to wreck the ship and beforehand murder The King's heir and his friends? Would anyone at that time know if someone actually died of drowning? 😁
BROOM HILDA
Matilda name says it all
Omg please tell me this isn’t riddled with commercials and ads !!!
"Depending on the year of his birth"
Well DAHHHH!!! 🤦
No just no!!! the back ground music 🎵🎶 is very irritating, I would rather listen to the narrator with out it.🤕😔
Nope. Can't get past the narrator.
Matilda is the rightful heir. So is Princess Rheanyra. Queen of the seven kingdoms
This is literally House of Dragons.
Yep, many don’t realize that a lot of Westeros History is based around actual English History.
William The Conquer=Aegon The Conqueror
Hadrian’s Wall= The Wall
The Saxons took most of England from the Britons, The Andals took most of Westeros from the First Men
The Anarchy=The Dance of Dragons
The Wars of The Roses=The War of The Five Kings
The Black Dinner= The Red Wedding etc.
Not everything is a perfect match for real History but a lot of it has some basis or inspiration.
Matilda was the true heir and everyone knew it. A lot was Henry I fault by showing Stephen so much favor before his death. But Matilda was terribly un -charismatic and treated her lords badly.
A bad habit the Henry VIII broke with his royal decree. Woman or not, no one would ever question the blood of Henry
