Tyron blocking 24 take down attempts was pretty cool to watch. Overall I think woodley did his thing, mayweather-esque, and won the fight technically. He knew he was winning and took his foot off the gas as mayweather does, and it was up to Maia, much like wonder boy, to streal the fight from him.

I agree with Dana, we can't be having such low action fights, it just doesn't bring the paper in.. I say the ufc should only upload stuff to youtube, have 2 fighters charge from 50 feet distance and just headbutt each other and see who gets knocked out, do it over and over again til one passes out or dies. Also we should clickbait the fk out of it, and have Dana sitting in the middle on a throne with the ufc showgirls serving him grapes.
Don't let Dana fool you it was a hell of a fight. To stop that guy 24/24 times is impressive. Put him against a boxer if u wanta see him box more. Wassup, Conor don't want this belt?
No, put him up against a boxer if you want to see him take them down and lie on them. Oh wait. He went up against a kickboxer/karate guy, in Wonderboy. Did he kickbox him a lot then...?

In all 32 of Maia's mma fights he's been knocked out once, that's not necessarily because he has a crazy chin but because when you start throwing hands at him he knows how to put you on your back. Everyone saying Tyron should have just knocked it Maia like it was some easy task are stupid

His next fight will most likely be Lawler (if he wants it) and that will be 2 strikers going at it.
Don't think he meant it negatively. Mayweather is a huge name and a draw no matter what. He's the goat of modern boxing. I think he was actually defending him and saying even if people tune in to see Woodley lose, that is still getting asses in seats.
You're smoking hella crack if you think for a second Woodley is better than GSP. Maybe since he is old now, it would be closer. But you would have to be an extreme casual to believe that. And GSP would never fight him because GSP has nothing to gain, while Woodley has everything to gain. That belt doesn't mean shit when it comes to draws and paydays.
I can see why people feel like the fight was a disappointment but I see where Tyron is coming from. Woodley is fighting to feed his family and survive.
Ramsay Bolton how the fuck did you came from fighting to his family and what the fuck does that has to do with fight??! They are talking about fight not family...
the problem with this fight is it was a boring fight stylistically the fight would go 1 of 3 ways 1.woodley ko's him on the feet 2. maia takes him down and submits him 3. its what we got my problem is woodley didn't take any risk and maia didnt have a backup plan
Nobody talks about Maia octogon entrance. dude took water bottle and spilled some, like, half a bottle. So Woodleys legs are un slippable, even on water.
Why the hell are people blaming Tyron for Maia's boring ass takedown attempts? Maia attempted 20 too many takedowns. You can't blame Tyron for shutting down Maia time after time.
Maia was too structured didn't improvise when he had Woodley off balance. He also needed to keep his legs moving during the takedowns. It's a shame his coaches don't utilize him correctly. He can afford to be much more aggressive in his striking because no one will try to take him down. He could throw hundreds of leg kicks while maintaining distance and no one could do anything about it.
It has become very much an entertainment sport - people want to see the exciting fighters with exciting personalities. It has pretty much come to the point if you don't have the total package you won't be a succesful champion. Also if Dana doesn't "like" you and think you will draw big money you are gonna have a hard time.
Damian is like a solider with a sniper rifle, hes very good at a specific thing,so if he tries to add kicks its like giving that soldier trained in sniping a machine gun and sending him to fight a guy who isn't a sniper, hes a soldier trained to fight soliders with machine guns
I don't watch much MMA, I'm more of a boxing fan. When I saw this fight with my friends it was my favorite fight of the night other than the main event. It was very entertaining, I honestly didn't get why people are bitching. His distance control and timing was insane. Loved the sweet science he pulled in there. Later I learned he was a boxer and it explained a lot, it's like he is using skills no one even know exist in MMA.
@@Gottiline_Ace His punches are crisp, every one else punches in MMA are garbage with poor stance. Nate Diaz displayed beautiful punching against Gomi, but hasn't looked that clean since. MMA fighters lack things like distance control, combinations that incorporate elusive movement, proper angling, footwork, and countering. Although some posses these abilities it's usually at a basic level. No where near where in needs to be. Woodley used distance control at a high level, and most of his opponents couldn't do shit about it. Kind of like the first time MMA fighters ran in into BJJ.
The cool thing is woodley do not engage maia on the ground. Seems like he do not confident on his wrestling prowess on the ground againts Maia ju jutsu. Maia lose are always to someone like woodley, better stand up than him and has good takedown defense.
Had Maia continuously taken Woodley down and kept trying to submit him, the fight would've still been "boring" to casuals. I don't see anything wrong with strategizing the way Woodley has. Floyd Mayweather has done the same things for years and actually got a lot of hate himself, it's just on a different stage this time around
DANA: You already know what I'm going to tell you. Tyron: I'm not the One. DANA: Sorry, kid. You've got the gift, but it looks like you are waiting for something. Tyron: Like what? DANA: Your next life maybe. Who knows? That's the way these things go. Morphues: Do you believe it now, Trinity? Trinity doesn't reply. Tyron: Morphues.... The White, he told me... I'm... Morpheus: DANA WHITE told you exactly what you needed to hear, that's all. Tyron, sooner or later you're going to realize, just as I did, there's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.
It's pointless to try and appease to fans. Look at Lawler getting booed by the fans for winning a close fight against Cerrone. Lawler a guy who went to war against Rory twice, Hendrick, etc.. a supposed fans favourite. So Woodley should try to appease these fans? and make a mistake that could put his title at risk and cost him and his family financially.
Tyron is a boring ass fighter, but you want to know something? At least he actually goes against the top contenders. Thats what i can honestly say about him. He fought Wonderboy, then fought him again. Then fought Maia. He actually does go against the most deserving challenger. Now i will NEVER buy a fight he is the main event for, but i can at least give him his credit and the dude can stop takedowns like its fuckin nothing. We have champs that refuse to fight the top contender (Michael BITCHping), champ that wont even defend the belt (Conor) and HAD one that would rather give up the belt than fight the one person that really deserved it (GDR). Now, i dont like the way he fights for shit, but the man does what these other champs refuse to do. DEFEND AGAINST THE TOP AND MOST DESERVING CHALLENGER.
Holy shit I thought people were just being sarcastic when they said Woodley's fight was exciting... if you thought that was exciting the main event must have blew your mind
the main reason people don't like his style is because they don't agree with having a game plan to go to decision in the first place. in many people's eyes you should not be okay just going to decision. a decision should only happen when two fighters tried to finish one another and couldn't, like in cerrone v. Lawler. but hey, if you want to point fight that's fine too
That fight was definitely boring, Tyron had good defense but terrible offense, he likely could have finished Maia whenever he wanted to. Nothing wrong with admitting a fight was boring, it doesn't make you any less of a MMA fan. Plenty of UFC fighters & coaches called it boring too. People need to chill.
just look at justin gaethje vs palomino in WSOF. Justin was the champ and came out brawling with bad intentions. The tyron woodley damain maia fight reminded me of Shaub vs Cyborg santos in metamoris where he was saying I SHUT DOWN HIS GAME. He was never invited to fight at any jiu jitsu tourney again. Tyron "Boring" woodley hes worse than GSP playing it safe
I respect that opinion, but I disagree. It is boring if you don't know what you are looking at and then you see just two fighters avoiding each other's offence without any output. I saw more then that.
I find it hard to believe anyone was honestly entertained by one fighter trying the same thing repeatedly without success for 25 minutes and another fighter not finishing (or attempting to finish) a blinded fighter that kept trying the same thing for 25 minutes. It was like watching Woodley training to fight Damian Maia.
I know his skill set very well. I'm missing your point. It's hard to put that skill set into action if you can not take your opponent down. So we watched a guy that is 95% bjj NOT do any bjj against a striker avoiding getting taken down.
KreyzAim its no good for Danas pockets is what you mean. These guys dont see any real reward for taking that extra risk. He did what he had to do to win, if people got bored, oh well. They're fighters, not fucking clowns to entertain. Go watch wwe if you want entertainment before sport.
Antonio Jr Exactly. Because they dont bring in the money to get the big fights, regardless of their ranking or ability. Its all about money and drawing a crowd, just look at the mayweather bull shit and Jones calling out fuckin Lesnar
The sport is already worldwide and is known worldwide. This isn't the the early 2000's anymore. Everybody knows what the fuck MMA and the UFC is. There is no more "growing" for the sport.
The problem with Maia is that he chose the wrong plan B and didn't figure it out until the end of the fight, his striking was never going to be able to contest Woodley's and he needed to go for the clinch in the middle of the ring instead of against the cage and look for a throw or trip or at least break him down with elbows and knees instead of going fist to fist. These boxer/wrestler types want the cage to their back for support, so you have to draw them out into the center where you can trip them backwards from the clinch with Judo etc.
MARTY MEINEKE first of all.. UFC is doing fine.. we have fighters from across the worldamd those ppl support their fighters. so they're already hooked. Plus, it's combat sports, anything can happen and fights can end in seconds. Stop bitching
ItsChuckyy Its not over because you say it's over. Boring fights are about expectations. You are an uneducated fan, which is fine. And its fine if you thought it was boring. The challenger's job is to take the belt. Thompson and Maia were not able to do that. 24 for 24. End of conversation.
Rashan Sankofa Not even close to chess, I hate when people say that. In chess you have to make sacrifices and have timing, you have to attack your opponent. This was Tyron moving a rook back and forth for 25 minutes.
this was a good fight. where did people see boring. the other guy should have done more keg kicks to woodly if he wanted to take woodly down. the guy got two good leg kicks on woodly late in the game and it looked very effective to me.
The ufc isnt really a competition anymore. Nothing makes sense anymore. If you win you move up the rank, but in the ufc only the trashtalkers move up. Look at Moussasi. He have beaten so many great fighters in the past and been shit over by the ufc. I hope everyone will move to Bellator
Maia fights against top tier fighters are almost all boring. He is too dangerous to go out there fists/legs blazing, one mistake and he's on you like a spider monkey that's taking you to snap city.
It doesn't matter Eddie, if the discrepancy of strength is too wide the other guy won't take that other guy down. Unless he's fighting a guy with no take down defense whatsoever, you're not going to take him down with that amount of strength margin.
this fight was really entertaining. strategical and i had to laugh the first round looked like a dog trying to catch a chicken. Maia didnt take it to the champion and lost. The problem is that dana wants this to be an entertainment business targeting beer drinkers that like to see people get KOed. I like to see who is the best martial artist, we saw 2 very different styles at a very high level match up, i personally have never seen someone so determined to take someone down while the other guy was so determined to stay on the feet, i loved it and woodley is one of the best WW champ we have seen in MMA history
Whether anyone agrees that Woodley had the right strategy... does anyone realistically want to see this guy fight? Especially if his fights are going to be as boring as this? No one wants to see this kind of 'fight', which I use in very loose terms.
Braveheart Physique I want to see woodley fight without the belt. Woodley without the belt is a monster... and as I have said before, this is coming from a guy who has never ever liked woodley. BUT woodley with the belt isn't going to to engage or do anything in a fight unless someone literally beats the dog shit out of him because that would force himto fight. Woodley is too content with just having the belt that he is barely even proving why he is the champion. He just wants to coast through fights with one or two punches
Braveheart Physique only saw Woodley fight twice this one and the wonder boy fight and honestly he's such a horrible performer yet we all know he possesses all the tools to be an amazing & AT the same time great performer!
And this is why you never let ppl. See what gets 2 you. Ever since tyron spoke out about racism, now everybody has some criticism for him. It's damn near impossible 2 be black, stay real, and be successful....props 2 tyron, keep winning bro.
This fight doesn't prove that Tyron is a boring fighter. His previous records says otherwise. I think people constantly wanna see him knock the socks out his opponents. Give him a break. LETS GO CHAMP!
Tyron tore his shoulder, still scored enough punches and stopped the take downs from Maia. Good job from Woodley. I appreciate skill and Tyron has it. The fight reminded me of McGregor vs Holloway. Conor hurt his knee and wrestled Max.
The fight was boring Woodley could of gone for the finish but he didnt thats what Dana was on bout and hes right. If you dont take risks you dont get rewards
The fight was boring. When no punches are being thrown the fight ceases to be exciting. We wan to see people going for the finish. Woodleys defense is incredible but at a certain point you need to finish your opponent.
I liked the fight. He's the champ. He stood there and said come and get the whole the time. I'll stand here and make this look easy. Not gonna tire myself out. I'm good enough that don't even have to try. Put him in there with someone better and maybe you'd have a less "boring" fight! The match up was fucking stupid. Maia's strength is his takedowns! Why the fuck would you put him up against Woodley unless you wanted to see this??!!
Wasn't GSP and ultra conservative fighter? Didn't Anderson Silva look boring against Maia? It's what Maia does. I actually thing Maia vs. GSP would be entertaining. GSP loves to take down guys and lay on them. Maia would be fine with that.
It's strange that Eddie started a grappling promotion that does everything possible to encourage people to go for submission finishes rather than getting ahead on some artificial points system or on judges' cards, but Tyron does those exact same BS things and Eddie doesn't blast him for it?
The woodley Maia fight was way better than watching the cyborg hunt a random chick who couldn’t keep her hands up. MMA is supposed to be a fight, not a hunt. Imagine Tyron knocked him out with that first uppercut, the title fight would have been over in 12 seconds. Those are the worst fights.
these was the best fight ive ever seen every second can happen something crazy and the best thing was it never happend so this wascrazy 2. best fight was kevin randleman vs pedro rizzo
I can understand people defending Woodley. I'd never pay a dollar to see him fight. I can hear if he won or lost and pretty much know how it happens these days. No respect for playin it safe in this sport
Woodley can straight K.O people, and have wars with people. This fight reminds me of some of Silva's fights. I blame Maia for being one dimensional, and I wouldn't buy a Maia fight ever again. He did this twice in championship fights actually.
i think its kinda sad that tryon won in dominate fashion and the other guy just cant stop about what damien did and should have done. Joe gave Tyron his props though. the guy is a fan boy
But if ur an exiting fighter people just wanna watch you. People are not intrested in a Tyron Woodley fight now. He's had 3 boring fights in a row, and if he would have finished maia and been exiting he would have fought gsp, now dana has took that fight away from Woodley and said u were too boring people ain't gonna gonna pay ppv for your boring fights. So gsp is now fighting bisping who dana said will at least throw hands and feet. Woodley can always fall bk on the racist card so I don't know what he's up to. But his last good fight was lawler. I think it's hard to say who he fights next as people are not interested in his fights no more
If Tyrone would have lost....people would be like why you let him grab you
OMG!!! Yes...
And if he punched and kicked his opponent, nobody would say it was boring.
hurrr durrrr

@Jason Christodoro eh not really. Only great wrestlers like colby usman and burns.

floyd tbe
I can see why people feel like the fight was a disappointment but I see where Tyron is coming from. Woodley is fighting to feed his family and survive.
Ramsay Bolton how the fuck did you came from fighting to his family and what the fuck does that has to do with fight??! They are talking about fight not family...
2:40 Joe was right, thats how Kamaru beat Tyron
Tyron blocked takedowns then swung at the air for 15 minutes. He fought scared.
El Cucuy lol
who cares is not a real fight, May weather fight like a pussy and its the best "boxer" of the decade
@El Cucuy ooof
Tyron fought smart
That Fight looked like a Puppy Biting a 5yo Kid's pants the kid pulling his leg and Running 🐶🏃😅
the problem with this fight is it was a boring fight stylistically
the fight would go 1 of 3 ways
1.woodley ko's him on the feet
2. maia takes him down and submits him
3. its what we got
my problem is woodley didn't take any risk and maia didnt have a backup plan
I'm srsly surprised that Maia didn't try to pull guard, as he used that half guard underhook sweep so well against Masvidal
and ppl forget that Rory put Woodley down multiple times when they fought. You need to mask it with the strikes, which Maia lacked
This fight was not boring at all. It's was so technical and great game plan. Maia vs Anderson Silvia was a boring ass fight!!!!!!
The fight was fine what woodly did was amazing no one does that to damien that being said it was kinda boring but that is fine lol.
That's how you get paid no money and bore everyone like gsp.
Gsp had boring fights but was somehow way more active in fights than Woodley
I don't watch much MMA, I'm more of a boxing fan. When I saw this fight with my friends it was my favorite fight of the night other than the main event. It was very entertaining, I honestly didn't get why people are bitching. His distance control and timing was insane. Loved the sweet science he pulled in there. Later I learned he was a boxer and it explained a lot, it's like he is using skills no one even know exist in MMA.
Lol comparing him to GSP? GSP is one of the most financially successful MMA fighters of all time so I have no idea wtf you're talking about.
i never thought gsp was a boring fighter. but never finishing fights was kinda really disappointing
Why no takedowns of his own? Why no offense off the blocked takedowns so many openings he was just turning his back on. Fought with no balls
Rory MacDonald figured how to beat Tyrone with relative ease
That fight was three years ago though.
MrBoommer1 true but regardless Rory never was in trouble and beat him convincly
All I know is I won't be ever watching that fight again.
"Ty-rod Woodley"
Two of the most boring fighters in the UFC (Maia & Woodley) met in the cage and put on a clinic in boring-ass-fights.
Eddie "I don't know shit" bravo
Donald J Drumpf you literally write messages all day on RUclips lmaooo bum
What ?
Donald J Drumpf "I don't know shit"are you mad Eddie is a is a ninja Jedi at bjj
Donald J Drumpf yeah a BJJ black belt doesn't know shit.
Newbie Yamaha don't be frightened man, woodley can put up a show if hes fighting two dimensional fighters,a rematch between lawler would be a good idea
McNips still will never buy his fight again. No thanks
I would rather get hit in the sack with a katana than watch DM fight.
Shelby gave the title shot to Maia with 2 weeks notice, how'd they want Maia to be technical and have a big arsenal of skills...
just look at justin gaethje vs palomino in WSOF.
That fight was boring. That is just the truth.
#RhymingOverBeats Uhm do you know who Maia is what he has done with his bjj skill set lmfao
I know his skill set very well. I'm missing your point. It's hard to put that skill set into action if you can not take your opponent down. So we watched a guy that is 95% bjj NOT do any bjj against a striker avoiding getting taken down.
you need a crazy ryan hall ankle lock takedown
Real athletes telling the truth. Not the boss trolling for publicity.
Joe was so right about how to beat Woodley. Usman is the exact guy joe is talking about
Boring fights is not good for a growing sport. Simple as that. Showcase the skills
KreyzAim its no good for Danas pockets is what you mean. These guys dont see any real reward for taking that extra risk. He did what he had to do to win, if people got bored, oh well. They're fighters, not fucking clowns to entertain. Go watch wwe if you want entertainment before sport.
teejee69bruh lol "sport". The sport where #1 contenders get fucked out of title shots and champions run from #1 contenders.
Not every fight will be exciting
Colby destroyed Maia.
Because at the end of the day your putting on a show for the fans.
A lot of people payed their hard earned money to watch a fight, not 25 minutes of take-down defense.
Ask yourself this... if you had to fight Demian Maia? Would your game plan be exactly like Woodley's. Of course it would.
MacDonald beat Woodley decisively
The fight was boring end of conversation.
ItsChuckyy go to sleep fair weather UFC fan
Wolf Perry The goal of any business is to get more customers and if watching slow boring fight doesn't bring you customers why continue doing it?
This was Tyron moving a rook back and forth for 25 minutes.
tyron was had a dislocated shoulder.
Rory Mc Donald beat them both with style
Woodley could have pushed and made this fight a real fight but he knows he will gas cause he put on to much beef
Won't pay for any card he's on .
It is Maia that is boring - not Woodley.
Mat huges is the best welterweight
this was a good fight. where did people see boring. the other guy should have done more keg kicks to woodly if he wanted to take woodly down. the guy got two good leg kicks on woodly late in the game and it looked very effective to me.
Eddie Bravo is a smart reasonable guy.
Joe can't spell my name he is racist - tyron woodley
Maia fights against top tier fighters are almost all boring. He is too dangerous to go out there fists/legs blazing, one mistake and he's on you like a spider monkey that's taking you to snap city.
It doesn't matter Eddie, if the discrepancy of strength is too wide the other guy won't take that other guy down. Unless he's fighting a guy with no take down defense whatsoever, you're not going to take him down with that amount of strength margin.
Fight was so boring I'll never watch it again. Lol
Everyone should be mad at Sean Shelby
this fight was really entertaining. strategical and i had to laugh the first round looked like a dog trying to catch a chicken.
No Very Boring the only ones I saw him Fight was Josh, Nate, Rory and Kelvin
Braveheart Physique only saw Woodley fight twice this one and the wonder boy fight and honestly he's such a horrible performer yet we all know he possesses all the tools to be an amazing & AT the same time great performer!
Hes had 2 boring fights....2.
Suirasan Coruscant Hes had 3 boring fights....3.
1:30-2:15 Bravo talking fucking 45 seconds without making eye contact. What drugs is he on?
The fact that Eddie didn't even know Woodley's first name is all the evidence Dana needs to prove that Woodley isn't a draw.
All Damian maia fights are all boring until he taps someone.
It's strange that Eddie started a grappling promotion that does everything possible to encourage people to go for submission finishes rather than getting ahead on some artificial points system or on judges' cards, but Tyron does those exact same BS things and Eddie doesn't blast him for it?
the fence saved him...
Was anyone talking about the Manuwa fight? Nope.
Only if fighter who can beat Woodley without a doubt is JON JONES, if he cuts weight like Woodley. Both walks around at 200+ lbs
these was the best fight ive ever seen every second can happen something crazy and the best thing was it never happend so this wascrazy 2. best fight was kevin randleman vs pedro rizzo
Who is better than GSP at taking down opponents? Why not put gsp in with Woodley
I can understand people defending Woodley. I'd never pay a dollar to see him fight. I can hear if he won or lost and pretty much know how it happens these days. No respect for playin it safe in this sport
If Tyron wants the big $. being the champ and winning is not good enough. No entertainment no big $.
Here's a crazy idea...... listen to me now......maybe, just maybe, Maia should train some fucking stand up.
Jre clips wtf is up with the framerate
Woodley can straight K.O people, and have wars with people. This fight reminds me of some of Silva's fights. I blame Maia for being one dimensional, and I wouldn't buy a Maia fight ever again. He did this twice in championship fights actually.
i think its kinda sad that tryon won in dominate fashion and the other guy just cant stop about what damien did and should have done. Joe gave Tyron his props though. the guy is a fan boy
If a fight puts people to sleep it's a bad fight. Fact no if ands or buts. No one is paying too watch woodley
That match was for MMA nerds like myself.
Joe rogan don’t be with the games “ it’s tyron “... he says it everyone
LOL.. Eddie, just say Woodley
The fans deserve much better when we are talking the so called champion
