What was that squeak at the end? And she is "insuperabile"??? No, Gruberova, one of the most overrated singers ever. When she was a soubrette she was really good but she should never have tempted the "heavy" repertoire, the likes of Norma, Anna Bolena or even Amina...she doesn't fit the shoesize.....
She never left her repertoire. She sang it her whole live and added a few heavier roles. When a singer sings like that and gets older singing well, she can do whatever the hell she wants. Talking about shoes, you need to change them and even the size. I found her fabulous. What I don't like is, that she's still singing and of course, for her age her voice is still there but should've retired a few years back. But who the hell are we to decide that?... it is her decision.

I sovracuti sono attaccati di sotto; le note ribattute e i vocalizzi sono molto approssimativi e le "notine" acute (vedasi il finale) risultano indietro e in gola. Per fortuna la Signora Gruberova ha una maschera naturale e sa come usarla. I diminuendo e i suoi pianissimi sono sì sonori, ma fissi e inconsistenti. Non parliamo dell'interpretazione: le sue espressioni sono famose e mi ricordano sempre Jessica Fletcher quando scopre un omicidio. La Signora Gruberova, che stimo per carità poichè è ancora in salute e la voce c'è eccome ed è ancora apprezzabile, ha praticamente spazzato via il Belcanto come emanazione del romanticismo interiore per renderlo esteriore, frizzante a suo modo, snaturandolo e rendendolo una sua emanazione. Amina qui non c'è: c'è Edina. E' sè stessa in scena: La Gruberambula.
