This was so good. I'm learning Hawaiian through DuoLingo and they don't really explain the grammar rules at all. They just throw an "i" in in there an expect you to figure out why. This helped me so much. Mahalo!
My experience on Duolingo led me here as well!
Same hahaha
Me too haha
Same, I don't think duoling is doing a great job at teaching Hawaiian
Same hahaha. Learning on duolingo.
Thanks. I've been using Duolingo and I don't know why they won't explain grammar more. It would make things a lot easier to know some basic grammar.
Glad I found you! You are filling in the blanks that Duolingo leaves out. Mahalo!
Best hawaiian language teacher on YT
I love this series about Hawaiian language. Clear, thorough, enjoyable… Bringing my study of Hawaiian language to a new level. Thanks, Laura!
Sweet jesus i'm actually learning hawaiian. I love you, this is amazing. Mahalo nui! HAHA
Mahalo for watching!
I want to learn Hawaiian language and your videos are perfect for me because I speak spanish and you don't speak to fast haha Thanks for sharing it with us! :)
I’m so glad this was helpful!
Mahalo plenty. I am 76 yrs old, kupuna, and belong to Hawaiian Civic club but you have taught me so much in just 3 lessons. Left home at 18 yrs, grew up hearing Hawaiian, those words I know, putting them together is another thing. My mo'opuna want to learn Hawaiian with me for a long time but I never found one that I liked for them. For this generation to have continued interest. They do that duo lingo but there just words, how do you use them? We start tomorrow with my two 16-17 year olds. I think they'll like you alot. I know I do. We have regular ukulele lesson and I think they are ready to do 'olelo Hawaii. And ditto to what everyone has already said. Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo. Ukulele Tutu
Mahalo ke kumo 🙏🏼 Greetings from the Canarian archipelago 🇮🇨

Aloha Laura!! I am writing to you from Florida!! I am a 69y.o. English teacher learning Hawaiian language to equip myself for a new life in Hawaii coming July. Your videos are helping me with the grammar structure of the language, which Duolingo lacks. Would love to meet you in person when I get there. Mahalo and lots of aloha, Cecilia Piani
Thank you so much. I’m Hawaiian on my dad’s side, and since he passed away when I was a baby and I grew up in Minnesota, learning Hawaiian is so important to me because I feel so much closer to knowing my dad and also closer to home and my ancestors. I’m writing up a google doc to study from with vocab lists/examples/practice exercises from your videos (so far I only have stuff from this one, since I just started!) so if anyone wants access to the doc lmk!
ohh you are kānaka maoli too awesome
that’s awesome:))
Blessings on you! Keeping your dad's memory alive through the traditional language and culture of Hawai'i! May he feel alive to you, and may you be given to experience the beauty and aloha spirit of Hawai’i in person.
Sorry you lost your makua kāne.
Aloha ahi ahi from Iaponia ! This is the best for 'Olelo Hawaiian !

Mahalo......this is fantastic....I have been learning Hawaiian chants but need to understand Hawaiian grammar better. I appreciate your clarity and humor!!!! There are so many words like "mai" "wale" "kau" that I don't fully understand.....
You are an excellent teacher! I really appreciate these videos.
You are a very wonderful teacher.

2:08 I'm learning how to speak にほんご (Ni-Ho-n-Go) "Japanese" and it's the same thing. I.e. "I am David", "De-bi-do Desu" "Desu" pronounced "Des" means "I am" so this will be easy for me to grasp.
Mahalo nui! I've started taking a class, but wanted to do some additional studies, and your class is beyond helpful. Me ka mahalo nui!
Wow 🤩 It helps me very much ✨Nice to meet you❤️ Mahalo nui ! Makemake au e aʻo i ka ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi ✨🥰
Hello Laura, Your videos are so very helpful. Thank you so much for all that you do. It's clear that you put a lot of time and thought into your presentations. Mahao! from Kailua Oahu. Aloha nui loa...........
Really happy to find your channel - not enough good ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi on web!
In Japanese you have topic markers instead or object markers. These markers were often used in some ancient Asian languages.
Thank you so much it's so hard to find places to learn Hawaiian for free! I was born there, and have always felt a connection to the islands, but have struggled to figure out where to go to learn it!
You're wonderful (and super pretty btw lol) thank you!
True Naomi, she is soo pretty!
Where do you live?
It’s so nice to learn my own language!! Mahalo nui loa!!
Love your sense of humor and style of teaching! Mahalo nui!
Like many others here in the comments secrion, I am also learning through Duolingo. This grammar explanation is a necessary and helpful supplement to Duolingo. Or rather, Duolingo is a good supplement to this lesson. Now that I have the concept, drilling on Duolingo is less confusing. Thank you so much for this excellent lesson!
So helpful! Love from Ireland 💛
Very nice! Mahalo ❤
Thank you so much! These videos are so creative and interesting. Love the character changes!
I am so grateful you have done this.
I’m from Hawaii, and I want to learn the Language of Hawaiian!
This is brilliant. Easy to understand and wonderfully and amusingly presented.
They say this language is dying. What a pity... It is SO beautiful!! I think it is the most beautiful language I ever heard.
It's having a resurgence! People (like this teacher) are dedicated to bringing it back, and will never let it die. Ke Aloha No Hawai’i !
I love your teaching methods. It really helps.
Love the way you teach. Mahalo ❤️
Great video, thank you.
Your videos are the best.
You are such a great teacher. I am also learning, Arabic and I just found out that the subject goes after the action too/ or that the sentence structure starts from the end and goes to the beginning, while writing it. It’s very confusing, but this is so cool to learn Hawaiian as well and know that there is action first.
Aww this is awesome! You’re such a good teacher
awesome, informative, and clearly described! mahalo
Hawaiian is such a cute and amazing language. You're doing a wonderful work, mahalo!
Love your page!
I am so glad I found your channel, what has been confusing for me about learning Hawai'ian is the unpredictable in Duolingo it is sometimes the same as the English and other times a sentence will be odd if literally translated so my struggle is knowing when this occurs.
Grammar concepts are confusing in American English, so understanding them in other languages is hard for me.
Inu au i ke kope.
Kākau au.
Nānā au i RUclips.
Kokua au ko’u makuahine.

How does a word like movie get translated into Hawaiian which was spoken well before movies were created
Thanks for making these videos! Can you pronounce words slower? For an example: Kiʻiʻoniʻoni :) Mahalo nui!
Hehe..its like Malay but in a puzzle form 😂.. we have "ini" which is similar to "i" and we have lots of repeated syllable for a word like tonton which is similar to nana 😂
hi, this is someone being via other materials in hawaiian language, is there any in hawaiian that is equivalent to participles in english?
and is there a subjunctive mood? or just a conditional?
and how to negate future tense verbs?
There isn't an exact equivalent to participles in Hawaiian. If you haven't watched already, check out my video on verb tenses: ruclips.net/video/ctPKsf7cnwU/видео.html for info on past simple, present continuous, and future simple sentences.
@@KeAlohaNoHawaii i'll do that in several days

she said O instead of au. for I.
Google translate has not been accurate. I don't think the algorithm is up to par yet.
I was told mamake
Pronunciation is not perfect. "au" she says more like "ou" so gotta be careful. Good informations but gotta 2nd source and be careful.
Definitely a good point -- I'm still working on my pronunciation. I recommend people listen to native speakers here: ulukau.org/kaniaina/
Omg this was so well explained thank you sm
