I was in my teens in time to see the greatness of Metal as it gave way to pop mentality and gave in to Grunge. I was discovering Robert E. Howard in musty backrooma in used book stores, the walls hung with Frank Frazetta portraits while, in the halls of newer books, Dragon Lance and Forgotten Realms were nearing the end of their creative hight. In movie theaters, there was an unspoken understanding that we would never see a comicbook splash page on the silver screen, and Todd MacFarlane was still an artist fullnof promise. My introductory editions to D&D were Basic and Advanced just as 2nd Ed was starting. I had a sense of the legend of such things just as they were being cast aside for what was then new. NWOTHM is like an underground society, a rebelious generation that was reared in the shadows on the ancient legends of a bygone time in music that mirrors the subject matter. By Crom, this is good!
Sellsword might not be my number one band, but this is my favorite album of all time for sure. Great and catchy songs one after another that form a cohesive and memorable entity that I always have to listen from beginning to end.
Every single song on this album is absolutely epic, like I just can't get these guys off my mind. The lead singers superb, and the drums and guitars are pretty damn solid. I have to say say though, Hardrada and Meet Your maker really stand out to me.
00:00 ...And Now We Ride 01:13 The Warrior 06:49 Battleground 13:30 Crossing The Blades 20:20 Rise And Take Command 23:59 Against The Wind 29:25 Sellsword 35:09 Ashen Hand 42:41 Merchants Of Menace 48:25 The Siege 54:34 Starlight 57:44 Hardrada 1:04:47 Meet Your Maker
Unbelievable from intro to the end Amazing vocalist Lyrically so well thought out and musically amazing with so much going on Can’t wait for my first siege
Now this is a vocalist that you won't find in another 300 years or so, a vocalist that sounds and sings like a medieval knight would sound and sing if metal would've existed back in that era, very chivalrous and honorable sounding like. Each song is great, not original what so ever in their sound, but original with their melodies and especially with the choruses.
Man, that finale - Meet Your Maker - just awesome. Didn't know anyone still made just STRAIGHT-UP HEAVY METAL any more (exception Maiden, they never stopped!!)!
Very Cool 😁😁😉😎 Edit__ I take my previous statement back..........This group is awesome...😂😁 Wow, it is truly like they are telling a story with each song. 🤔🤯😅😉
Uojuuuuuuuuuuuuuwoowwww!! Solo diré: ACOJONANTE new wave of heavy metal!!!!
Rule Britannia, Britannia rule the Metal waves... The absolutely first one: Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, Thin Lizzy, Budgie etc. .. T'was a fucking Tsunami The 2nd: Motörhead, Venom, Tank, Warfare, Demon, Gillan, Rainbow, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Judas Priest, Diamond Head, Savage, Chateaux, Grim Reaper, Angle Witch, Witchfynder General, Satan, Blind Fury, Holocaust, etc. (another fuckin' Tsunami) The 3rd: My Dying Bride, Solstice, Fen, Pardise Lost, Anathema, Skyclad etc... The 4th: Scirocco, Dark Forrest, Old Season, Forefather, Soar, Oakenshield, etc.. The 5th: Hellripper, the underrated Sellsword asmo
This is fantastic. Easily the best album I've heard since 3 Inches of Blood's Fire Up the Blades. Very mature and polished, especially for a first album.
Where this singer studied bel canto? Very peculiar voice even if I am not too much into NWBHOM/epic power. It's sounds like a half soprano mixed with baritone. An upgraded Marcolin/Vikstrom voice style....
Awesome album. I'm trying to guess the tessitura of the singer's voice but I'm not versed enough in this. Is he a baryton maybe? If someone who knows about this could give the answer, I'd love to know.
Hey, this ain't bad! The vocalist teeters on the edge a bit too much, but I think he pulls it off. Reminds me of oldschool power/thrash. The guitars could be a bit louder but other than that this ain't bad at all.
Stuart's voice is like a thick hearty roast beef stew served in a helmet with a broadsword as a spoon.
😅😅😅
Love the description!
Ive never heard a more erotic description of someone's voice..... Kink unlocked!
Sellsword, Riot City, and Eternal Champion revived my love for metal
Металл -бессмертен!
💥🤘🤘
Crossing the Blades
Every time I listen to this again, I feel my aspirations are attainable. I should do a rehear more often.
This is such a huge album....l feel like l'm in the middle of the medieval battle...incredible vocalist !!!🤘🤘🖤🇬🇧
This vocalist KILLS! LOVE this.

На кого осаду,не на русских ли?
What an absolutely masterful album. Criminally underrated band.
Very wonderful saxon vibes. With welcomed exaggerated bard theatrics: Nice work Stuart.
I really really want the opening music, "...And Now We Ride" to be longer. A full-fledged song. It's awesome!
Fucking hell, I cannot get over how good this band is.
Same!

Well said my friend. Actually, your excellent description of the vocalist enhances my already great enjoyment of his singing.
@Adrijana Radosevic agreed its not unreplicable, still very unique and i think hes right in his assessment.
A great album! Full of fantasy and fantastic themes with a strong 80's metal felling.
Reminds me of early Queensryche. This goes on my "buy" list. I am loving that there is a NWOTHM genre.
remind me of early krokus
Reminds me me of early Bob Marley.

Really enjoying this album. For me, reminiscent of wonderful Swedish band, Universe.
Epic!
Awesome, brilliant.old school metal for ever.keep the flame burning. My greetings to YORK!
Great album, I bought my copy today. The singer reminds me of Zenny Hansson from Destiny (Sweden), classic voice.

Merchants of menace or rise and take command - which is better? Are they better than each other? Oohhh
Rise and Take Command was definitely a highlight for me
Or all three?

Super vocalist
The riff on Rise sounded like Back to the Future for a minute.
Bom demais, o vocalista atual é top tbm
Thanks I stayed in a power lunge for the whole album in very tight jeans. I have a very powerful left butt cheek now.....

Fans of this album might also be interested in a band called Strident. The singer of that band uses a similar theatrical and epic style of singing.
Hey, this ain't bad! The vocalist teeters on the edge a bit too much, but I think he pulls it off. Reminds me of oldschool power/thrash. The guitars could be a bit louder but other than that this ain't bad at all.
did I just hear the back to the future theme at around 23:00?
I'll buy the sword, how much?
Brutal, fuck yeah
These is the limit, it's over
Only just stumbled on this band and they sound fucking amazing but reading the singers left or something.
I've seen Sellsword twice in a small venue, not far from their homes in York, "Epic" doesn't even scratch the surface of what they are...
