So exceptional and beautiful. Greetings from South Africa, February 2025.
I am listening to this in 2023. I am a retired professional English horn player and I only hope,Bethany, that you are gracing an orchestra someplace. This is not the only recording of this piece but it is the best. I enjoyed your playing so much. I am a senior citizen now but I still love to play and you inspired me.
Thanks for your kind words ❤ between finding the music, research, writing, and performing, this piece was a big part of my life for more than 2 years, and I’m glad to hear this performance still has meaning 6 years later 😁 I’m currently playing assoc principal/EH with the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra
I so often think of my favourite composer when I hear this wonderful Concerto (Vaughan Williams). Fantastic performance! Beautiful playing. Thank you, Bethany.
Bethany, Beautiful. Thank you for introducing me to the English horn. Say "hi" to Gerhardt if you see him. Enjoyed the performance. Made me think of Ralph Vaughan Williams.
I loved this performance
Bravo, c'est absolument magnifique ....et tout cela sans partition ! je pratique le hautbois et le cor anglais et ma préférence va tout naturellement vers le cor anglais !...quelle maitrise , merci pour ce bon moment .
Great work, Bethany! Beautiful tone.
Go Bethany!!! Wonderful Performance!!
Thanks Matt! :)
Hello wonderful soloist! Did the composer play a wind instrument himself? Specifically, did the writing cause any breathing problems for you? Kindest regards
Hi! As far as I know, Mr. Vasks is a bass player, but he has composed extensively for voice and has written several pieces for winds as well. Breath placement is overall well considered in the composition. A couple of spots in the slower movements can be a touch tricky to manage because there are frequent phrase breaks, but not rests, and the length varies from phrase to phrase, so I suggest mapping it well and deciding which of those breaks need a breath and which do not. Otherwise, it’s fairly intuitive. Hope that helps!
This is amazing. I'm in highschool learning English horn, and it's amazing how well you project. Where can I get the sheet music for this?
Schott has it available for rental!
This is beautiful! I was trying to place my rental order for this piece, however it happens that it s not available for individual rental. May I ask if there’s anyway I can find this piece. Really appreciate it. Thank you so much. I wish I can be like you, u play it really great
@@Kenalto1 thanks! At the time, I rented it from Schott. I don’t know if it’s still available or not, but they were Mr. Vasks’s publisher at the time.
Hi Bethany! Beautiful playing! Google told me you had also a performance guide lecture about the piece. Is it somehow possible to hear/watch/read it? :) I would love to get to know more about the piece!
Marcell Dénes-Worowski yes! Send me a private message with your email and I’d be happy to send you a copy of the guide.
Really awesome performance! If you don't mind me asking, I was wanting to do this piece for a solo, but I can't find the sheet music anywhere. Where did you get yours?
Thank you! I rented it from Schott’s library.
