Thank you for the video. I have one of these and it still plays strong without recapping. I believe they were all made in the USA from about 1959 to 1963 but as time went on they sourced more and more parts from offshore ( like the IF cans) yet still assembled in the states with some domestic parts. Still used the unique reed type speaker ( think thats what they were called) saving $ by deleting the output transformer. And as far as I know they were all 5 transistor sets yet still have impressive performance. I think GE actually kept making or assembling small radios like this ( or even smaller ones like the P 1711) until the mid 60s in what ( I think was) the factory in Schnectady NY but have been unable to find any infornation on it.
Thanks for the comment. Mine hasn’t been recapped either. Recapping is a last resort and if necessary I like to place the new caps inside the old cans so it looks original.
I will consider recapping USA sets but only with caps that were also made in USA. Got quite a few from military surplus or old car radios that were otherwise junk and found those caps to be of high quality. And I save the OEM parts just in case.
