Babi guling, or roast Balinese style pig, is a delicacy and one of the most popular food to eat in Bali, Indonesia. Today was a special opportunity because we went to a home where they roast the pigs for orders - most people order their pigs for events or family parties.
We got to see the entire process of preparing and roasting the whole pigs. They fill it was paste, brush the pig with coconut water to make it extra crispy. Then they roasted it over a very hot fire for an hour.
Unfortunately, we hadn't pre-ordered a pig, nor could we eat a whole one, but next time I will order one from them!
Instead, we headed to Warung Babi Guling Gerenceng to eat a street food version of babi guling. It would have been better if it was very hot, but it was still tasty, and I’m still dreaming about their sambal!

I tried this dish when i was in Bali. It really is delicious with all the different pig served, the side dishes make it special. It was even good 6 hours later after picking up another one to take away and flying home with it (a friend of mine REALLY likes this dish).

I ve been in both Philipine and Bali and for me, Balinese version got a stronger taste than Lechon because of the seasonings they put in it. The mix of typical Indonesian spicy. yummmyyyy!!!

Balinese food actually focus more on herbs rather than spices. During colonial era Bali was never a major hub for spice trade. Which is why you hardly see any indian, arabic, persia, or chinese influence in balinese food. But that makes balinese food so unique. 😊

I think the muslims of Indonesia are quite tolerant, I have met many Hindus from Indonesia and they tell me that can follow their faith quite openly (in other parts of Indonesia ofc not just Bali) so the Indonesian muslims seem very tolerant ig
But the ones in Pakistan, Bangladesh & Afghanistan are monsters, they don't respect any other religions, opinions, ideas nothing
That's why there is such a great deal of suffering in those countries, no job, no infrastructure, no food
Personally, i used to feel bad for them but now i think that they deserve every bit of it, Karma gets everyone!

I have been lived in bali for several years in Gianyar the center home town of Babi guling , I am Muslim and i dont eat Porks, but i feel exited when i saw balinese people serving Babi Guling. hahaha, looks funny and their roasting technique was very expert, golden shiny crispy looks pig skins. the other delicious foods were Ayam Betutu dan Lawar Kuwir and Roasted Ducks
