THE RETURN OF THE KING Your absence made me realize how weak I am to addiction, I rewatched like 20 of your videos while waiting for your come back like a meth head sniffing on paper glue while Heisenberg finishes cooking
Subscriber for a few years and this is an immediate favorite, so many good captures on this outing. Also appreciated the field notes on the Blad 501c digital conversion pack. This is some of your best work, IMHO…
I have to say, this is one of the most compelling videos for digital I’ve ever seen. I grew up in the heyday of Kodak when film was plentiful and around a dollar a roll. It is sad to see the cost of film today, just when I am feeling nostalgic and getting back in to film. Love your videos and I have almost binge watched them all!
Back in the late 90s I shot mainly slide film for myself while shooting Kodak for my wedding photography business. Monday mornings were a blast as fellow photographers gathered at the film lab to eagerly await our film negatives come through the processor in the hope our negs were rich and well exposed while chatting and drinking coffee. Those were the best days. Then getting those boxes of mounted slides and spreading them out onmy lightbox with a loupe magnifier. In those days tyere was no post processsing just mainly shooting and off to the lab. I can still smell the chemistry from back then nd now when I open my Fujifilm lab every morning for work that smell takes me straight back to the 1990s. Also that one image you shot on the Hasselblad is so Hopperesque it gave me goosebumps.
I was just thinking earlier today that it’d been a long time since the last grainydays video - and then I open the app back up a few hours later, and there you are!
kinda hard to be accused of betraying film when Kodak holds a monopoly and hasn't learned a damn thing from their history. needless to say the hype is dying down but the appreciation of film was still refreshed.
I switched from film to digital recently and one thing I figured out is that the limitation that came with film was more of a mindset than anything else I also did what you did which was pick a system that would give me a pretty similar experience and as I continued to make the switch the mindset of using film just ended up carrying over to my digital workflow and nothing has changed with my work since carrying over the same mindset and workflow But I understand it isn’t the same for everyone
Good affirmation of just focusing on being intentional with your shots, despite the gear. Always great to hear your thoughts and see your work. Thank you for your inspiration and humor.
Ahh, the Hassy. Time to break that pricey sucker out. Great intro, Jason. That's an interesting modular part. It's kind of like putting a manual focus lens on a Rebel t6. It looks like you were close to where Carpenter shot "The Fog."
Someone on reddit found a crapton of aerochrome in a warehouse freezer didn't know what it was worth. probably selling it to make his retirement dreams come true.
grainydays video after a while and it's digital? I'm here for it. Great vid, great narration, great ending, props to Mr. Bay. Also those photos are some certified ass-grade slapper bangers! great stuff.
Hahahahhahahahhahha the lighthouse. 15 or so years ago my wife and I were in that area because she had a forestry contract job there. We heard all about this "wonderful" and "scenic" lighthouse we had to see. Well, due to circumstances beyond our control (dumb people) it was a herculean feat to make it to the lighthouse. When we seen it we were like "seriously? this is it? it sucks?." So for the last 15 years everytime we go do something / try something that is all hyped up and super disappointing - we refer to it as a lighthouse. A few years after that, we ended up getting married (I don't know what she was thinking....) and we did so at the park in Bodega Bay, CA. Thanks for the memories, I took a similar shot with my only camera I had then - a venerable Sony DCS-H5.
All jokes aside, I noticed very little difference between these photos and your usual stuff. If I sat down with them and studied them I’m sure I could, but as someone once said, “if someone’s first instinct is to try and pixel prep the grain, the subject of your photograph wasn’t good enough anyway”. Or some shit like that, you get the gist. I just like your photos, and your dog.
the photos you previewed at the beginning. I was wondering aloud what film stock you used. Knowing it was Hassie all along. Well, I don't know how that makes me feel or think. I certainly can't afford a Hassie. :P
Are there any film backs compatible with the 907x? I know there are for Hasselblad's H-series, but those are discontinued. I've been mulling over one of those against something from Mamiya's 645 AF-D series.
funny note is in the start unlike anyother film video where the intro says who developed the film and who scanned it instead of writing like "developed by the darkroom" it says "developed by NO ONE" its nice that jason is doing easter eggs and not "an ektachrome chrismas".
I bought a z5 yesterday. Used one for a few months and if i treat it like a film camera with an lcd display and slow down, use some older lenses adapted, and not automatically setting the iso to 12600 because i can, i feel pretty good about shooting less film in 2025. But not none. Im watching you kodak…
FINALLY. I COULDN’T EAT LUNCH WITHOUT WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS AND IM STARVING
Edit: that outtro was an emotional whiplash and I nearly spit out my food
whats for lunch?
We have been starving for almost a month
You sure “ starving “

“You aren’t really live until you see a Grainydays video i guess” -Mark Twain
Good to see you back Jason
"Straight Ass" - Bob Ross
No squarespace sponsor, and a michael bay outro. That's cinema
“This digital back is like, $7000. That’s like two rolls of ektachrome.” Had me dying omg

HAHA, the hole in the wall at around @01:37 really got me! Fantastic to see you back, dude!!
I just know the intro stunt was pure analog
The faint but familiar "ding" of duolingo at 13:27 is a reminder that the owl follows you literally everywhere you go

It must be pay week, Jason’s has uploaded

Yes! Your intentional film approach to digital is the perfect match. I'm looking forward to more of this.
I never been to therapy.. but I’m assuming if it feels similar to watching this video. Guess I can tell my ex girlfriends that I’m fixed now.

I got featured on grainydays before we got GTA 6
I was just thinking earlier today that it’d been a long time since the last grainydays video - and then I open the app back up a few hours later, and there you are!
To have you AND Caleb videos today just warms my heart like turducken on Christmas morning or something.

RETURN OF THE KING
So many awesome shots, the one at 10.33 is 😍
Also that intro AND outro 😂
What is that font @0:16? I like it!
@grainydays Love the shots and the way you made it emulate Ektachrome!

Someone on reddit found a crapton of aerochrome in a warehouse freezer didn't know what it was worth. probably selling it to make his retirement dreams come true.
Best Intro YET
grainydays video after a while and it's digital? I'm here for it. Great vid, great narration, great ending, props to Mr. Bay.

The photos just get better with each release.
Also your production value is so high! I really like your videos!

I watched this video and realized that my plans for the evening have changed. I will be re-watching it over and over again🍓
I don't think I've ever been this excited for a video. LOL!!!
Also, we're seeing a level up happening...
10/10 ending
SGI better than recent movies, well done !
Somehow, grainydays returned 💚
This video has a dirty affair vibe to it. Love it. 10/10.
Tim Roth’s emotional son is back at it again.
YOU'RE ALIVE!!! 🎉
good enough, welcome back bad flashes
The burger joint is a wall hanger! You need to print it. Really enjoying the color output on these shots.
Babe wake up! The toilet photography man posted!
big boy finally bought a big boy camera
Monica keeping that Duolingo streak alive @13:26
Get a load of this guy, I love him!
That photo where you said holy balls, eff that’s a great picture.
I've got so used to butt chugging your content to catchup, it seems like an eternity since you posted a new video! Nice
This video is fucking beautiful as always. This has been my dream rig since I started shooting film last fall.
Now that's an entrance
I am hasselglad to see you upload
the photos you previewed at the beginning.
I was wondering aloud what film stock you used.
Knowing it was Hassie all along. Well, I don't know how that makes me feel or think. I certainly can't afford a Hassie. :P
Will any polarizing filter make those sky tones or only specific kinds?
Are there any film backs compatible with the 907x? I know there are for Hasselblad's H-series, but those are discontinued. I've been mulling over one of those against something from Mamiya's 645 AF-D series.
YYEAHHH he’s not dead
Holup baby, new grainydays vid just dropped
that's funny, like 2 minutes ago I thought to myself "It's been a while since grainydays uploaded a video" :D
Joder si, ostia, ya era hora. Me cago en dios, joder... Que largo se ha hecho. No vuelvas a hacernos esto
The End Of Grainydays: This Video Is (Not) Sponsored By Squarespace
I'm glad you`re back, but hell I DID NOT NEED TO SEE SOME PHILOSOPHICAL SHIT TODAY!
Ur alive!!! 🥰
Should we call this a crop sensor, considering the size is smaller than the 6x6 format?
Everyone has photographic memory, not everyone has film (digital suffices 😎)
funny note is in the start unlike anyother film video where the intro says who developed the film and who scanned it instead of writing like "developed by the darkroom" it says "developed by NO ONE" its nice that jason is doing easter eggs and not "an ektachrome chrismas".

WE ARE SO BACK
Did you get a 40mm lens? That lens is the best ..
Ok but why not use the Hasselblad H6D with a filmback so you dont get a crop between film and digital?
THE INTRO OMG 😂😂😂
He's back.... I guess
Stroong shots in this one
fuck me that second shot at the start is insane
Michael Bay did a great job with this one
Hasselblad...shutter eargasm..I finally got it...its kinda sad fujifilm doesnt make the digital backs anymore for the GFX system....
How long did that fall take to do? The 6 weeks you’ve been gone?
