Soooo cool! Thanks for sharing and hoping you enjoyed more than suffered our southern gravel roads! Are you coming over to the Sea Otter? Keep it up mate!
A hardtail would definitely be more fun on the downhill single track sections but there was a fair amount of road in this edition so would be frustrating on these sections.
Little help then your Di2 runs out of batterie. You can swap the batteries from your Di2, so you could change from the big ring to the small ring in the front. Otherwise, well done mate !
Great Video, your editing is top notch, especially the frame changes lined up with the beats of the song, fantastic! I wonder how many kms you got on that carbon frame, must be several 10k
I don’t use prescription lenses in my cycling glasses currently although I probably should and something I may look into further at some point. There are a few options but nothing I’ve been fully sold on yet.
good one Josh follow your dot as a few other friends ... I have 2 questions for you ... 1. how to reach that level.... or how one should feel when the front runners are making 99 % to 1% in a gravel hot hard desert ultra race. 2. how compare this badlands to the Panceltic race... well thats it cheers.
Its such a long race that you don’t want to dig yourself into a hole early on. Most of that front group started way too fast with only a handful able to hold it for the duration. I always get slightly carried away but eventually you just have to let them go and go at your own pace. The panceltic was mostly road with the odd off-road section that you can just about manage on a road bike where as badlands is heavily off-road and requires a gravel bike. It’s also a lot hotter.
Yoo! Crazy adventure, but no sleep gear? That’s madness. Skipping sleep is not only unhealthy but takes a while for the body to recalibrate. This should above all be a fun exercise, not an anti snooze protest! 😂😂😂 Well Done and nice to see familiar faces like Tristan BMc’ing his way round the Nevada. I think next year you gotta grow up a little in the tyre department, not be shy to wear 45’s! 😂😂😂 keep pedalling and appreciate the efforts in taking me along. Now let me go get a cool one!
That actually didn't look you had much fun doing it, but probably after it. Because you achieved something?! What exactly, except for suffering?! 😅 I don't understand "Ultra", especially the sleep deprivation thing. I like to challenge myself, but some well needed rest afterwards is well deserved and reasonable so you don't injure yourself.
Howdy Josh! Thanks for sharing your experience and taking the time to film while riding. Well done! 😎 From Madison, Wisconsin, US of A.
Mise en place, Mise en place, Mise en place. The service will take care of its self. 😊
Well dug in 👍
Great video. Now ready to head out into the rain for a ride. Thank you and take care, Al
you're a madman! absolutely crazy bro and superb editing, too!
Looked easy 😉
Great effort, and thanks for managing to capture so much to create a great film out of it!
Thank you Josh! Inspiring as always 🤘❤️🤘
Great vid, great ride, amazing ❤️💪💪🏁🏁🏁
Well done as always Josh! Really cool seeing my dawg Tristan. Hopefully he vlogged his experience as well.
Yeah I’m pretty sure he will have made a video also.
Well done Josh that certainly looked a tough one, thanks for taking us along on the epic journey 👍 👏
Glad you enjoyed it.
Hey Josh :) I'm a big fan from Spain, what an honor to have you cycle here! You should try the St James trail in the north! Keep up the awesome videos
Great video mate 🎉
You’re a machine mate 💪
What a stunning ride, and what an adventure that must be. If only I'd have the time to do similar. Go0d on you for making it work.
Brilliant effort and uber good video. Well done fella
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it

Not going to be at Sea Otter this year unfortunately
Well done! Looks beautiful and brutal 🙌🏻
Bonkers indeed 🤪. Well done Josh.
SO many people on gravel bikes! I would want a hardtail. Great video!

Proper adventure that Josh - really enjoyed this one. Brutal and beautiful - and flies!!! Top work lad!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Seemed like I brought the north east weather to the desert.

Otherwise, well done mate !
Awesome video, it really makes me wanna get on my bike and head to Spain!
The next video that will come out in a few days is of a route in Spain that I’d highly recommend if you ever get to go.
Well done Josh. Looking to do this next year. Looks a proper challenge. What lights did you use? Did you take a bivy?
Great Video, your editing is top notch, especially the frame changes lined up with the beats of the song, fantastic!

Yeah I’ve had it since the start of the year and has done a fair chunk of my distance this year. Definitely over 10k.
@@Josh-Reid oh so you changed bikes, i thought it's still from last year or older.
@@alkfema you’re right it’s been longer than I thought. The bike was used for the TCR last year.
I know it's a big business but in long events or in isolated places we all should be with mechanical shifting 🤔
What an epic video! Got a question for you regarding your sports/cycling glasses - do you use prescription lenses in them?
I don’t use prescription lenses in my cycling glasses currently although I probably should and something I may look into further at some point. There are a few options but nothing I’ve been fully sold on yet.
@@Josh-Reid Alright, thanks man!

Well done Josh. Are you able to share the route with us? I appreciate you may not be allowed :-)

What size tires are you using?
I was using 40s in the race but would have preferred 45s in hindsight.
Thanks, I’ve been running 42 front, 38 rear. More knobby in the back. Trying to find the best setup .

How do you enter ?
You get entered into a ballot when you apply on the badlands website when entries open
Thanks for suffering so we don't have to.
