  • A 9-foot Great White shark vanished-and her tracking tag told the story.
One moment, “Shark Alpha” was cruising in 46°F water. Seconds later, her tag recorded a sudden spike to 78°F and a violent plunge almost 2,000 feet into the dark. For eight days, the tag stayed inside something warm and moving. Orcas didn’t fit the data. Squid didn’t fit. Megalodon was pure fantasy.
When researchers finally cracked the numbers, the truth was worse than any sea monster myth: the killer was another Great White-much bigger, hotter, and perfectly adapted to hunt in the deep. This “super predator” likely measured well over 16 feet, maybe closer to 20, a cannibal giant ruling the canyons of the Southern Ocean.
The only thing a Great White really fears… is a bigger Great White.
