Hi Watto - yes we are trying some different things to try to lighten our loads a bit. We both have had some core injuries in the past year that has made us rethink a bit of our set up so we can continue on our adventures! We are sure it will be a work in progress but we are adapting! Mountain views never get old! No need to justify to anyone the "why" for high end gear. We have Osprey packs as well (love them), but the more you get out the more you realize that you might need, or want lighter equipment! I have a new , lighter, custom pack coming soon. I'm not getting any younger and the easier I can make it on this body, the better! I love my Lone Peaks!!! They fit like gloves.
Hi Ron! Agreed - mountain views NEVER get old! Agreed on the gear - the more we do, and the more demand we are putting on our bodies - we are finding that some of or original things just aren't working as well as we need them to so we can continue forward. We both have had some core injuries over the past year or two that have made us reconsider pack weight - and as far as the shoes go - wow - not sure we will ever go back to regular hiking boots - the weight off our feet (and those wide toe boxes) take a ton of weight off our back! Mount Rainier is so beautiful, you will love it there. Jennifer Lupine is awesome. Very beautiful hike, I do love seeing all those mushrooms, I noticed them at the Red River Gorge this weekend too. The views were amazing! And I love the shoes. I hear ya on tightening up the laces. I always have issues with my left foot, I once fractured it. Oh that chili looked so delicious. It sounds very steep. That does get to your knees for sure;

Loved your hike on this portion of the AT, Karen and Shannon. Pine Grove Furnace SP looks like a beautiful park! Hiking is so much more fun in the warmer weather but to hike with grandchildren we'd do it in the snow! We've hiked portions of the AT before too, but mostly in VA, Thanks for bringing us along.

It looks like a beautiful trail to hike! I really like the backpacks - that's something I need to get for longer hikes to bring all of my gear. Unfortunately my hubby has a knee injury so we usually can't hike too far. But he got hiking poles and they really help. Great info on this one - great test for your shoes and backpacks indeed.
Hi there - thanks for watching! Karen also had a knee injury at the beginning of our hiking adventures and with a knee brace and the poles - has managed to build up strength again in her knee. She is still VERY mindful of it while hiking, and still wears the brace - but the poles have been VERY helpful, and we both now use them as a preventative method of injury - we often comment on "saving our knees" especially on the downhill!
I know the feeling; my gf and I reach a boiling point when we need to get the hell outside already too! It feels so good to get out into nature for a nice reset. That's some serious terrain at 12:23. Well worth it though- what a beautiful overlook! Thanks for sharing your journey with all of us Karen and Shannon and I look forward to seeing your next adventure!
We hear ya! It is the same for us - and each time the length in between seems to get shorter and shorter! We are definitely happiest outside! It is good for the mind & soul!

Hi Karen and Shannon, I certainly know how you feel with your back. I have a spinal injury and have to wear back support whilst I’m working. It doesn’t stop me getting out and enjoying life though, even though I am in pain on a daily basis. I hope that new back pack helped and I hope the new shoes did too 😊😊 lovely to see the lake you kayaked from a different perspective 😊 lunch looked good and so did the trail too 😊 keep well and catch up soon

@@ms.kayak7seas we are big fans of that brand because of the wide toe box - it promotes less restriction on our feet which seems to be very helpful while hiking. We both also wear a different version of the same brand as our "every day" shoes for the same comfort!
