Awesome video! Thank you!!! I've done this in my garage, so used two jacks to lift the front of the car. I didn't disconnect the power cable for the passenger side fan, just let it sit on the ground but a side from that followed the steps to the tee. Great idea to use longer screws to move out radiator assembly forward. Otherwise there is no room to work.
Does it make more sense to replace the alternator by removing the intake and redoing the items just below it like filter seal, cooling seals, vacuum to pump just to name a few?
Whatever works best for you. Some people remove the whole front end, some remove the intake, some work from the bottom... there is no wrong way, as long as the job gets done.
lol probably man. I just realized it's all fast forwarded, didnt have my sound on before. Did you have any trouble prying the alternator loose? I can't get mine to budge. Some idiot put a 6 rib pulley on my 12V VR6 and put the 7 rib belt on. Needless to say, its been a fun week.
One more comment. You can only remove the very left section of the engine cover to allow access to the belt tensioner. By leaving the rest of the engine cover in place, you don't need to remove spark plug cables, saving yourself time
My 2000 Jordan stratton vr6 jetta the heated is disconnected from the motor, ,and in the back is all reconert with a T ,,,I been trying to fix it back to the original but no where to find the video or the sckech to do it,can you help?
Remove the T piece and connect "flanges" to the hoses... then, connect the flanges to the heater core. www.germanautoparts.com/partsearch/3b0122291b www.germanautoparts.com/partsearch/1j0122291d
Should be able to remove the compressor with the bumper in place... evacuate the system, remove / move out of the way the power steering pump, disconnect the AC lines from the compressor, disconnect the clutch electrical plug, unbolt the compressor, remove / wiggle the compressor out of the mounting bracket. When in doubt... move what you have to move in order to remove what you want to remove.
+Michael Donahue Drive-on Ramps or lift the car on to floor jacks. You will need a bit of height to make things easier. forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?2455185
+Michael Donahue The DIY page is a bit overkill... as you saw from my video, I did not touch the radiator. My video is OLD and I do not have text-overlay that explains things. The video DOES have annotations that you can read / that pop up, but you have to watch with a desktop computer to see them / read them.
M8x1.25 with a 13mm hex head... bolt is about 1.5" to 2" long. Only thread the bolt in far enough until the belt is loose... if you turn it in too far, the tensioner will break!!!
Here's a slower video of front bumper removal for putting the front end into service position: ruclips.net/video/R8L2gOU589o/видео.html Once the front is in service position, you can get at all the intake manifold bolts... once the intake is off, you can get at the injectors.
Hi, sorry about the late reply! I have not yet had a chance to upload at regular speed... I will do so, soon! In the mean time, you can watch my 2.0L radiator removal video, so you can see how to move the front end into "service position" for alternator removal. It is the same procedure for the VR6. VW A4: 2.0L Jetta Radiator Removal
hicistes mucho trabajo innecesario yo lo quito y solo quite el tensor de la banda, el compresor del aire y la bomba del power steering y me tarde 30 minutos
The purpose i wanted to watch this was to see what wires are where on the alternator because on my 99 vw vr6 afp there is no wire coming from the top screw closest to front of the vehicle and all the ones i saw at the junkyard and a fat black wire on them and i think that could be why i am getting 20 ground faults codes possibly because the kid i bought the vehicle from had the alternator done and it started having issues and i cant find anything online that tells me where it goes! Thanks
mikeyd19841 The wire is hard to see with the alternator mounted... it is tucked against the alternator and runs down the back. If it were missing, then your battery light would always be on and the battery would never charge / go flat after driving for a while.

This is like watching a really bad 1st person shooter
Slow version here: VW A4: 2.8l AFP VR6 Alternator Removal (slow version)
I can't wait to do mine on my gti!! Look so fun....lol. Nice vid.
The best way to get to know your car, is to dive right in and take it all apart! :-) Thanks for watching!

Thank you! Yes, sometimes (meaning most of the times) I have "blond moments" where I do unnecessary things. :-)
Thanks you so much Thomas!!
Make sure to watch the slow version!

How much did you charge for that job
Mitchell labor guide lists 2.7hrs
Just paid 8
Do I have to do all this for the AC compressor? On a 2000 vw jetta 12v vr6
Deadman 25 No... I'm away from my PC. I'll check once I get home. I'm pretty sure it can be done from under the car with the bumper in place.
Thomas EXOVCDS oh ok thank you!!

Camarada ke medida es el tornillo ke le pones al tensor para kitar la banda
M8x1.25 ?
Do you need to have the car on a lift to do this?

Pretending it's not sped up...he's sick of it.lol
is the 8mm bolt threded top to bottom and what lengths

For an alternator???? That's insane!!!!
I have seen & worked on worse.
+half burrito no desconecte las líneas del gas del compresor, solo que al compresor lo hice a un lado
Easier by taking the front end off
Yes, but then people complain that I took the front end off.
good god nothing like getting motion sickness watching this....... Video is moving so fast it's hard to watch

As listed in the description.
2 fast 2 understand.. And somethimes there's no light 2 see whats he doing
Ask questions and I will answer / reply.
Thomas EXOVCDS do u have a video about how remove and clean injectors in this vr6??
No, not yet... sorry.
Here's a slower video of front bumper removal for putting the front end into service position:

Once the front is in service position, you can get at all the intake manifold bolts... once the intake is off, you can get at the injectors.
That is a completely, ridiculous amount of time and effort just to replace a damn alternator.
NJW1973 There are other ways of doing it... and I've replaced alternators on non vw/audi vehicles that were more involved than this.
+Thomas EXOVCDS try an a/c compressor on DOHC 3.0l powered ford Taurus/ mercury sable, it makes this look like a dream.......
+MrErikw26 I can believe that!
would you pz upload this video in slower speed?

Creo¡
