Could use some adjustments but so much of it is important to the whole and well done I would be a little worried. Ff7r was anazing though so that inspires some confidence
Yeah, an official graphical upres (especially if they still had the original models and textures rather than relying on AI upscaling) would be nice. If they want to go another step, they could add some pre-rendered cutscenes, similar to the FFT WOTL treatment. But a remake is way overboard.
I love the idea of a spin off game where Beatrix is the main character, either a prequal focused on how she became one of the strongest warriors in Alexandria or a more mature sequel where we explore how she deals with her involvement in what is essentially war crimes during the events of FF9. What kind of trauma she would feel visiting a ruined Bermecia, etc. and can she really be forgiven for those actions? We could explore more of her "redemption arc" in the form of flashbacks to her FF9 off screen dialogs and battles.
If I'm honest, I don't know if I would want a remake. I think FF7R is lighting in a bottle that already had extended stuff that makes it possible for a multiverse story. Which seems to be what they are going for currently. The best I could hope for is an almost identical game with just some additional polish here and there. Like you said a 50-60 hour game built on top of the 40 hour native game. However... I would love a spinoff. For example, I would love to see a game that has General Beatrix as a character during the wars on the continent before the events of FFIX. Seeing Burmecia, Lindblum, Alexandria, and even the Qu's in a new light on the mist continent. This also has the benefit of not having to introduce the plot dementors into the game like FF7R did to validate the multiverse branch. Heck even just a lower budget FF game that's not a main title but plays a little more like FFX could be cool. Something that has the same storybook tone as FFIX did with an old style fantasy setting. But without the need for it to sell like hotcakes just to have it be successful.
I like your ideas about spinoff games. From a practical standpoint they would have to make a lot of the assets again in order to make those spinoff games, especially if we're talking about Lindblum and Alexandria as well as a lot of the characters so they might as well remake the original game again and then possibly make those spinoff games expanding on the story either as standalone games or as DLC, or maybe even as side quests in the base game itself. And yeah, there's always pressure to make every numbered entry Final Fantasy bigger and better than the previous entry, so it would be interesting to see them try a smaller budget game again.
All I ask of a remake is. More fleshed out story for other characters. Seamless world and a better endgame all we have is Chocobo hot and cold and the card game. Imo I love ff12 battle system but I don’t think it would happen
IX could benefit from some minor additions covering things the original team admitted they wanted to do but never got time to do, such as having you fight all 4 fiends. But other than those minor exceptions, IX wouldn't benefit from expansion unlike VII. Even VIII could benefit from more expansion than IX despite the fact it wouldn't benefit from expansion as much as VII.
If they kept the story and cutscenes mostly the same. I would love to see ff9 with today's graphics. Imagine Atmos swallowing lindblum with today's graphics. Seeing bahamut and Alexander Duke it out ❤❤❤
I disagree with remakes that change the game. FF7R is an action game with a radically different story from FF7. All remakes need to be turn based. FF9’s combat and equipment system is more simplistic than previous entries. Be brave, Square. Remake FF8, no changes, just next gen graphics.
Yeah its kinda disappointing since the 7 remake is more like a reimagining of the original and is filled with filler content, the upcoming rebirth will most likely have even more filler content
I would love a modern remake of it, but under a couple of conditions. First one, keep it TURN BASED! It's a tribute to the older games that came on the NES and SNES. Hold true to the spirit of the original game. Add voice acting, QoL improvements like auto saves, better pacing in combat, and change trance to where it can be activated at will rather than automatically. Maybe add some abilities or change how others work. I'd love to see a similar art style to the original, but I can't say I'd miss seeing the hippo and fish people disappear. Second: don't make a new story like what they did with FF7R. Keep the original story. If they need to add something small here or there (like some background for Amarant or a proper conculsion to Freya's plot), or fix something that hasn't aged well (Like Zidane grabbing Dagger's butt), but no major changes like what we are getting with the FF7R games. We don't need another FFR that runs parallel to the original like the 7 remake. I love this game, it's one of my favorite games of all time, and I've been playing games for 30+ years. I'd hate to see the game butchered somehow, or drastically changed.
The trance thing is a great point. I had forgotten it's automatic and you're right, they should definitely give the player the ability to choose when they want to trance.
The original will always be there. I’m sure if it happens there are things I’d like done differently, but it’s only additive in my view. Even if they drop the ball, it doesn’t change the original
One of the things that FF9 does differently from 7 or 10 is - the DnD party travelling the world. I don't think you can take the narrative of FF9 and how much they travel the world and do away with the design of Overworld-places-combat. how they split the party etc. so I don't want a "modern" game of FF9. I would want a game design AS FF9 but with better assets, better time management etc. like I don't know if I'd like to have a 3d space like in project memoria compared to the originals "screen-based" traversal...
Honestly! I would love a Remake of FF9. So Long as the Story additions are more Improvements on certain Story details and Less Rewrites! Like with what Happened to FF7 Remake! It is Freaking Jarring How Strange Final Fantasy 7 Remake is! I mean Ghosts do exist in game…but Literal Story Manipulating Spectres that Completely Upend the Original Story of FF7 for some Meta Narrative Shack Ups is Damn Weird!
Nice video, some opinions I agree with but I tire of these videos speaking of why/why not.. not a single one mentions the fact that IX is Sakaguchi's swan song, how do you remake somebody swan song, their love story to the franchise that they started? You don't.
While Sakaguchi was heavily involved in the development of FFIX, it is a bit disingenuous to attribute that much credit to him. There were many other significant others involved. Hiroyuki Ito is actually the one who directed the game along with Kazuhiko Aoki. And the lead scenario planner, Nobuaki Komoto is the one who wrote the infamous scene where the song "You're Not Alone" plays. Considering Sakaguchi has a very positive relationship with Square Enix these days, it wouldn't surprise me if they asked him to consult on the project, but even if they asked him to remake it, he would most certainly decline anyway given he doesn't do remakes, ports, etc...
@@FaustFantasy IX was Sakaguchi's final scenario in the FF series, it was a retrospective to finalize the vision he saw for the series before dropping down to merely a producer role for further titles as SE wanted to change things up, which was on display with VII and VIII. I doubt he'd come back to bastardize his retrospective of his original vision into something modern, that kind of defeats the purpose of he "finalizing" his vision with the retrospective, which was IX.
@@FaustFantasy P.S. Nice take on it all though, but re-writing or re-working somebody's magnum opus (of sorts) is just doubtful, but who knows, they're doing crazy ish these days.

I wanted to love FFIX, but over half the character designs suck bad to me, especially Quina the only main cast that look decent are Zidane, and Dagger, and the story was okay at best, but they could remake it I wouldn't mind, if the character designs were cooler it would be closer to my favorite. They could just port the mod, and add voice acting would be easier than a total remake, but I'm sure some people would complain that it's not good enough ext.

It needs to be handled with the utmost of care, and Quina should probably removed. There needs to a full map, airships, and a boat. All of that. They had better not mess around, and they need to remember that at some level, it's not just a children's game. That means stellar voice acting, a certain style. It all has to be there, or it's just blasphemy. Oh, and they need to really take the magic to the next level. I had better be blown away.
I don't think that will happen. The FFXVI team is still working on the DLC for that game and in addition, they're always busy working on FFXIV. If the nvidia leak is true and FFIX is in development, it likely started development a few years ago when the FFXVI team was more than knee deep in projects.
