      Yes. Over exaggerated. Probably not a practical vehicle for most in the UK but he makes it seem worse than it really would be. Especially at the gas pump. The white van at the gas station is the same one at the corner just before.

    • @TakenTook
      @TakenTook Год назад +9

      @@larrydlam -- I suspect the white van is driven by a colleague of his, participating in the video by making sure that the difficult situations will be set up just right.
      He certainly could have waited at the gas station and pulled in behind somebody else after the other vehicles cleared, or left after the first fill up and gone back around to get to the pump again for the rest.
      He absolutely could have parked and walked into the McDonald's.
      Probably can't fit inside most private garages or public parking structures in the UK either.
      But the gasoline/petrol costs are completely real, and not semi-contrived like some of the other scenes in this video.
      So overall, I think the video is worthwhile, because anyone across the pond who thinks they might want a full size American truck should probably consider these possible situations before making such a purchase.

    • @T-Dawg123a
      @T-Dawg123a Год назад +1

      the point of the video was probably to be excessive. dude brought a gas engine tuned to 1000 horsepower that gets maybe 7 mpg when a diesel engine in a truck that size gets ~20 mpg if driven conservatively.
      for a F250, RAM 25500 or bigger truck diesel is really the best option for either efficiency or power. diesels can make even more power than gas if you stuff enough air in them with a turbo or super charger. A sufficiently boosted Cummins diesel engine in a RAM can run a 9 second quarter mile.

    • @TakenTook
      @TakenTook Год назад +2

      @@T-Dawg123a -- Plus the truck he is driving here isn't even a 2500. The Ram "Hennessy Mammoth 1000" is actually just a flashy modified version of the Ram 1500 TRX with a short bed. (Although the external dimensions in terms of width and length of the vehicle are about the same between 1500 and 2500 models if they all have the crew cab and short bed.)
      It's basically a toy for dudebros to want to show off their truck, as opposed to people who actually need a truck for work or towing.
      And the one shown here isn't even the largest version of a 1500 Ram, because it is clearly the one with the short bed and not the full size bed behind the crew cab. He would've had more difficulty with a long bed when it comes to things like parking or trying to turn in a small radius on a narrow road.
      I agree that diesel probably makes more sense in the UK, especially since your winters tend to have milder temperatures than the northern parts of the US and Canada. There will be times you have to use a heater for the engine block, but not as commonly as we do here.

      To be fair, as a full size pickup truck driver myself for several decades now, I find most places here in the states are built to accommodate that size vehicle, including most open lot parking spaces, two-lane bridges, etc.
      There are certainly exceptions in some older towns that were highly populated before cars even existed. But I think most cities in the UK would fall into that category, which is why there were several points in the video where other vehicles had to back up to allow him to pass through on a road that was only about 1.5 truck widths.
      Even here in the US, there are some parking structures where the roof clearance is too low, and some businesses with street parking or parking lots that seem to be set up for smaller vehicles only. When I know I'm going to have to park someplace like that, I take my Durango instead of my Ram.

This "Hennessy 1000" is a modified version of the Ram 1500, which is that manufacturer's smallest full size pickup truck. Plus the one in this video only has a short bed as opposed to a full-size bed behind that crew cab.
      Dodge used to make a midsize truck called the Dakota, but they stopped making it a decade or so ago. It would've been a better fit for these roads in the UK.
      Chevrolet still makes a midsize truck called the Colorado that would also make more sense in the UK.
      Ford refers to their Ranger line as midsize, and it might actually qualify as midsize these days because they do seem bigger now, with actual doors for the backseat in the extended cab versions. But 30 years ago when I last owned one of them, I would call even the "super cab" Ranger a small truck, because the back "seats" in those "super" cabs consisted of a fold-down platform that faced sideways, like a jump seat on an airplane, and you had to fold and push the front seats forward to reach the backseat in the first place.

    For the US, that is not a "large" "pickup" truck, and is what I, personally, would class as an expensive toy, rather than practical vehicle.
    It has a supercharged, 6.2 liter gasoline (vs diesel) engine rated at 1,000 HP - but it is mounted in a "1/2 ton" chassis, and though lifted, it is not 4-wheel drive.
    It's price tag - in the US - is over $135,000 and they will only make something like 200 of them.
    A truly Large US pickup, might be a crew cab (4 full sized doors, with full rear seats) - with a long wheelbase, and dual rear tires -
    with a "3/4 ton", or "1 ton" chassis (Dodge 2500 or 3500 series vs a 1500 series).
    If you wanted to make it even more unwieldy, you could get it in 4-wheel drive.
    But even in the US, these are not very handy for in town driving, or parking.
    That ,and I cannot imagine what they would cost to operate in the UK because of fuel costs.

    That particular truck is extra wide because it is built for offroad driving. Otherwise, there are plenty of trucks that are longer and heavier. The truck on this video is considered a "half ton" or light duty truck. We also have three quarter ton and one ton trucks which are generally used for work and have large diesel engines and larger frames and axles, making them pretty heavy.
    Then of course there are plenty of people, including myself, that install lift kits and larger tires, making the truck even bigger.

    1:51 This pickup truck is on the larger side, but it's not particularly uncommon or the largest one out there. In the United States, especially in the Midwest and South regions, it's not unusual to see one out of every three vehicles on the road being some kind of truck. However, it's worth noting that many of these trucks are simply used as daily transportation and are never actually put to use for their intended "truck-like" functions, such as off-roading or hauling cargo.

    Although this truck is a 1500 like the raptor the TRX witch is the base for the henissey mammoth. It is wider and tailer then the standard 1500 pick up it's wider then the 2500s or 3/4 tons. So no this isn't the size of the standard American pickup but these do roll around in the states.

    How to "spray" wash a large vehicle:
    1) Accept the fact that you are going to have to pay for two separate cycles.
    2) Use the first cycle to loosen up any obvious debris, then switch over the foam brush. Make sure you drop at least a little bit of soap foam in bits all around the truck, including the roof, and then go back around to actually use the brush for scrubbing. Don't worry about running out of time because...
    3) You are going to use the second round to do the tires and wheel wells, and then rinse everything from the top down.
    Much less stressful than trying to wash and rinse the entire thing in one go.

    My dad drove around a duly (which has fenders that stick out on both sides and would have definitely been more difficult as far as driving through those narrow places. Not sure if it would make it down some of them at all just due to narowness. But that style truck isn't as common as the one he drove). Our truck was also extended cab (so it had full size back seat and front seat) and a long bed (so longer than the normal length of the bed of most trucks), making our truck not only much wider than most trucks but longer as well. And yeah they are almost always high off the ground since they are originally designed for work and you may need to go over rough terrain (though not everyone who drives one actually needs one in the states)

    I drive a 7-seater family-style van over here in the US. Not as long or as wide as that truck, but still a pretty big box of a vehicle. I do keep the rear seat folded into the floor for cargo space, and the middle two bucket seats have the seat-backs folded down as well. If I place the front of a standard 4x8-foot sheet of plywood atop the folded middle seats, I can fit the entire thing in far enough to close the back hatch completely. Without any cargo in the van, it gets a hair over 630 miles on a single tank of gas. When I was a teen on the family farm, I would regularly drive an 18-foot-bed dump truck to take grain and corn to local feed mills, so I know what it's like to drive a larger-than-passenger-sized truck. And the combine harvester had a grain-mowing attachment that was 14 feet wide--driven mostly on back roads and dirt roads. Our largest tractor would regularly tow a 12-foot-wide disc harrow.
    The fellow in the video could have avoided all the hassle he was showing by simply being patient enough to wait for a petrol pump where he didn't have to block someone in, and not using a drive-through to get his food. If he was making the tightest turns that truck was capable of doing, I'd be surprised. To me, it looked as if he were exaggerating everything to make a comical point.
    As for British roads being narrower, they are. I've visited England twice and everything except for the highways/motorways are much narrower than the same sort of roads in the US would be. I never tried to drive in England, but I was a passenger often enough to see what the roads there are like. I was astonished the first time my British friends took me out on the back roads there. Parking on both sides, with basically a single lane in the middle for two-way traffic to share, and pulling to the side to let oncoming traffic to go by. It made sense, especially with the smaller size of the cars, but the typical US driver would go slowly mad trying to cope--most assuredly so if driving one of our typically-larger vehicles. Driving a British vehicle on British roads would be more easily managed by a US driver--once they got used to driving on the left, steering wheel on the right, roundabouts, and pulling over for oncoming traffic on narrow roads. If *I* absolutely *had* to drive a US vehicle in England, I'd opt for a motorcycle! Or some of our own smaller cars. We do have plenty of small cars, but the stereotype is, of course, huge fuel-guzzling behemoths.

    On American roads, our lanes are generally wider in width, which can be attributed to the vast land available in the country. Since there is usually no need to conserve space, the roads are not constrained by trying to weave through 200-year-old towns and villages. U.S. roads are typically 12-14 feet wide (3.5 -4.5 meters) compared to the 9 feet or 3.65 meters in the U.K.

    I have to mention, it all comes down to knowing the measurements of your vehicle, position the driver seat so you can see the front of the hood, position the mirrors so you see a small part of your vehicle as well as the road and having the competence to drive it in smaller spaces. If you’re afraid to drive it anywhere and end up with a 1-2 feet gap of space, you’re not competent and need to take more driving lessons or turn in your license. I’ve mostly driven large trucks and became skilled at fitting them down narrow streets and back alleys in the big cities.

    A 3 ton US pick-up? Humm?? I have never heard of a 3 ton. Perhaps he is talking about the total weight of the truck. That is possible but not how they are rated in the US. A 1 ton is about as high as they go for consumer trucks here. This is the weight it is rated to carry in the bed of the truck. NOT how much it will haul (some go up to 9 tons there) or how much it weight total. That could be 3 tons.

That's also a Hennessy upgrade, so that version of the truck is VERY expensive and not something the average person could drive. On smaller roads it can be difficult, but if you are used to the size of the truck then its not bad. This video was obviously someone who has never driven something that big
