  • Mo Chailin Dìleas Donn / My Faithful Brown Haired Girl by Hector MacKenzie.
This week’s song was chosen by my daughter who has spent all week, including her birthday, in hospital. It’s a lovely song, composed by Hector MacKenzie (1817-1910), a sailor from Ullapool, and tells of his love for his faithful sweetheart and how he misses her while he’s at sea.
The song has been sung by many people, including Arthur Cormack with Cliar, and Karen Matheson with Capercaillie, but most notably for me was by the wonderful Willie Beaton, who I was lucky to hear many times with the Incredible Fling Band at cèilidh’s in Kinlochewe village hall as a child.
