Hi Fred! I also have such a radio (as well as the D-219) and I have to say that it is a very easy to use, practical device. I got a lot of use out of the lamp when camping on a bicycle tour. In fact, that was one of the reasons I bought this. I think its sound is very good, in Hungary the SW can be used very well, but the equalizer would be really good. Greetings Tazi
I'm surprised the D-901, in spite of its size, doesn't have an FM stereo tuner for listening with headphones. I agree that this radio should lose that side light, but I guess XHDATA wanted this model to add extra value for its asking price. Thanks for the revisit, Fred! 📻👍
Excellent review, thanks! I have one of these in my collection of radios and I really like it. It's versatile, it's a very decent receiver especially on SW, totally on par with the D-368 (I don't do MW, it's dead here in France). Quite good for FM too with clear, deep and powerful sound. Its powerful built-in torch comes really handy during night time SWL outdoors sessions. The D-901 is not power hungry, it lasts forever on D cells and quite a long time on its 18650 battery. Having a socket for an external antenna (and AUX input) on a radio in that price range is a big plus. I have the same reservations as yours: tuning can be a bit annoying sometimes, the fixed bandwidth on SW is a bit on the narrow side for my taste (kind of like on the D-219) and it's prone to MW breakthrough.
On the strength of this video I bought one, and I'm very grateful for your review. I just thought that I'd add that its FM reception is really excellent. I'm my area BBC Radio 3 has been tough to get effectively with what was an overpowering local radio station (now mushed into Greatest Hits Radio). It overwhelmed any digital tuner and left manual tuning on a knife edge. If nothing else this radio has solved that and enhanced my available genuinely local stations as well. It probably helps that it doesn't try reaching for stereo. But why that torch needs to be there?
Im going to buy 1 now thanks for your review as per bro ...Great price and for shortwave in the night time here in Ireland i get some great stations..thanks again Ged in Ireland.
These Chinese radios are great for the price the sound is good reception of the short wave bands is good and f m good overall 7 out of ten Chinese radios are getting better and better for the price cheers from raymond Oscar bravo 101 melbourne Australia
Like it, torch is good for my area, winter time we can loose power, due to snow on the cable feed to our area, so to know to head directly to the radio for the 1st emergency light source is good. 56CT004 😊
You can probably use any Micro SD card in the "TF" slot. There's a long story there but IIRC TF is mostly compatible without the "secure" (DRM) features of SD. Possibly manufacturers can avoid paying fees if they just support TF and don't use the SD logo.
Time to consult the manual when you talked about the D-cells charging or not..... If you have a multimeter you could easily have checked it if the manual does not say. Good review else. Thank you.
New to SW. Very helpful review, thank you. I would want to use D batteries. Do I remove the rechargeable battery totally or leave it uncharged in situ?
No he recorded the sound of that jack and received on the whip. After that he plugged the external antennas and didn't record from the headphone socket.
What a baseless statement, unless your standard for a good radio starts at the Tecsun PL-680 and price is meaningless to you. Otherwise, try finding a better, more versatile radio for that price and come again.

Hi back to you.
I have been eying this radio for some time . Separate SW bands for only 30 euros on amazon , very tempting.
Great fun radio and good sound quality.
will come alive in the night on alot of bands..

Honestly, if I want stereo radio with my headphones, I use my phone.
Reminds me of the Days as a kid under the sheets at night listening to Radio Caroline so my parents couldn't hear me..
A dial light would be so cool...
I love shortwave. Nice radio.
Me too!
There will be a diode that prevents the dry d-cell battery being charged.
I must investigate this one further. Looks to be just what I am looking for. Thanks for your comprehensive video.
You are welcome!

Hi. Glad we agree. Its a lot of radio for the money.
Indeed, it is. 25 UK Pounds is like 30 Euros, I bought it from direct from XHDATA, it was unexpectedly delivered by Amazon FR in 3 days for 24€.

Big radio but still only half the size of my Grundig Concert Boy. 🙂
Loved the old 1970's/early 80's Grundig's! We've had the whole range over the years!📻🎶

New to SW. Very helpful review, thank you. I would want to use D batteries. Do I remove the rechargeable battery totally or leave it uncharged in situ?
Hi. I would remove it.
@CB-RADIO-UK Thanks for this steer. Couldn't decide on D-219 or D-901 ... so getting both. Very impressed with the D-220 that I bought first.
Hello Fred , have you done a review on the Tecsun 990X ?

Could have added dab to it 👍🏼
Would be nice but it would have increased the price.
I'm confused, did plug the long wire antenna in the headphones jack?
No he recorded the sound of that jack and received on the whip. After that he plugged the external antennas and didn't record from the headphone socket.
Nokia years ago with the Fm radio band in the Nokia phone, the headphones socket was rhe antenna,
@@migsvensurfing6310 Thank you.
@@sutitigi Yes but not the case on this radio. The AUX socket is used for external antenna.
