Buying a single call is nearly the same thing as buying stock and buying a put.... they have to be - otherwise there would be arbitrage and people taking advantage of one side of the market or the other (call side or put side).
Wouldn’t buying leaps make more sense than buying a call if your comparing a stock and put protection?
