I moved to NYC in 1981 and fell in love with the city. Although I am no longer there (financial reasons only), these newscasts warm my heart and make me smile.
The opening V/O on the editorial reply was Barbara Korsen, then working as sub-announcer for both WABC-TV and WOR-TV (the latter as 'vacation relief').
I used to record Day Of Disaster on VHS in 1982. I still have those recordings. Was always a fan of history, even as a teenager in 1982. All these familiar faces of the channel 7 news team bring back great memories
Remember, that 1981 gas price equals $5.17 a gallon in 2020 dollars!!!! I have a 1981 280zx and the dash has a 2nd gas gauge that shows the last quarter tank in TENTHS.
It’s kind of weird, the 1982 Phillies won more than 2022 regular season but a playoff format change has resulted in something that wouldn’t have been possible in 1982
That was the case until December 86. The 6pm newscast was cut to 30 minutes, World News Tonight moved from 7 to 6:30, and Jeopardy! moved from 4pm to 7pm.
OMG, Roseanne & Ernie, Roger Grimsby, Bill Beutel. My childhood. I was such a little nerd that these guys were my rock stars.

Roger Grimsby is a legend. The way he reads the news is incredible. “An 82 year-old woman, shot once in the neck. Police would like to know why.” 0:22
Roger wrote his own copy so it was in his distinctive voice.
You've dug deep my man, you've dug deep!! Keep the hits coming!!
This gives me nostalgic feels and I'm not even from New York. I miss my childhood years.

Wowsers! That is one hell of a perm on that opening shot. Must have blew half his paycheck to get it so perfect.

Spencer Christian is my news guy! He does news in Bay Area California since I was born
Back when journalists were journalists, not activists.
Exactly!
Omg. I was 17. My fam watched abc news every night
Good evening. I'm Roger Grimsby here now the news.
Watched these reporters all the time when growing up. I turned 14 the day this broadcast aired. Seems like a lifetime ago.
I turned 50 that day. Good times.
god, its insane how good the channel 7 eyewitness news was back then
Roger Grimsby is 54 years old in this broadcast. That's one year younger than Paul Rudd is now, in 2024.
Looks 70, probably was a chain smoker
Back then, everyone smoked indoors, urban pollution was still hell, and no one moisturized nor wore sunscreen.
The commercials of the year 1982 I remember them well
I was just 10 days new born baby,on this day,lovely yaar💯😘
Just came here to say it’s not the bear’s fault.
Ernie Anastis with an Afro, Nice
“Apparently, it’s a lab course”. @41:50 Watch Bill Burrell almost lose it. Grimsby was a genius. Forgot how good this team was.
Almost forty years ago this was my memory
So what happened to that elderly woman was the case solved?
And the cab driver--what happened to him?
French bread pizza and nobody was counting calories in 1982
I was just 13 years old when this aired and I loved Stouffers french bread pizza. Pop one in the toaster oven and plop down to watch late night tv.
When true journalist did not add their opinions only the facts.
This awesome! Thank you!
It’s kind of weird, the 1982 Phillies won more than 2022 regular season but a playoff format change has resulted in something that wouldn’t have been possible in 1982
Me watching this in 2024. I was 10 back then.
ernie anastos with the afro
Parnell Roberts selling white wine in his undershirt
I want to know what happened to poor Hetta Saltzman.
She was shot in the neck and died, about a year after he sister died.
Did they ever track down the missing cabby? I googled his name and could not find anything. I hope he's doing OK.
All done live too.. was the best
45:10 Roger Sharp was part of ABC-TV's coverage of JFK's assassination. From that to ...
Gas price,
1.38 a gallon , Whoa 😮
Ernie Anastos fro, lol
Keep fucking that chicken.
-Ernie back in 2009 on Fox 5
@24:31 ❤️❤️❤️. Sweet guy all around.
Why did Bill Beutel always tilt sideways when broadcasting?? 😂
Brown sweater dude did it
Is that Kim basinger at 47:34
Wait…Israel and the Palestinians were fighting back in 1982, too? Wow. I thought this was a new issue.
I can’t tell if this is genuine or not but it’s on point lol
Is that Cleveland's Ted Henry at The very opening?
12:33 Smoking cigs on air. That's boss right there.
If it bleeds, Roger leads.

Apparently so
Mark Haynes! His hair!
Was the 6pm an hour back then? Did World News not exist yet?
The 6pm edition was indeed an hour at the time. ABC News aired at 7pm. It was the same way over at WNBC-TV.
Where is the beautiful Rose Ann Scamardella at now?
Florida
Can't beat a mark on the bust!
that was a wild and unexpected twist there right at the end
I turned 13 on that day.
How society has changed! Marriage up and divorce down!!! It is society, and how its progressed. The same can be said of individual responsibility.
16:23 the more things change, the more they stay the same. :(
Roseanne Scamardella
I love teddy bears
There is no make up room I see back then
This is was news was real and not like the fake news of today
It’s not necessarily fake but heavily influenced by money and the Democratic Party
