    It was the end of the night, and her voice was probably shot from all the belting she does. She was trying to save it some. She does it for the fans, and is real. She messes up just like everyone and we know she isn't perfect all the time and can't be, but love her anyways.

    She is doing 8 shows a week on broadway at the moment,that takes a giant toll on a persons voice,for those critisizing,let's hear you sing.

  • @AllanHanIsKing

    1) Her ear piece was messed up, which explains her messed up lyrics. All stars, no matter how familiar they are with their own song, depend on the ear piece.
    2) She sang the song 1 key higher than the studio version, which explains why she always has trouble with the last note. She did this at the Oscars as well. She needs to just stick to the original, but the beginning is really hard since it's so deep, so I can see why she does this.
    3) This was her final song of the night, and it was a hard one to sing, especially since it's after Defying Gravity as well.
    SO STOP CRITICIZING HER. She did amazing!

    • @thespian302
      @thespian302 10 лет назад +4

      1) then maybe it might have been smart to have actual monitors in case the ear piece fell out... oh wait she did:) 2) Yea bad choice but one thats kinda necessary. Id rather sound bad low than sound bad high, thats my opinion. 3)If it is after defying gravity she should be plenty warmed up then. 4) when you are a star you open yourself to criticism. She held the concert, and sang songs she couldn't sing. I see no reason to not criticize her choices, both from an health and vocal stand point.

    • @AllanHanIsKing
      @AllanHanIsKing 10 лет назад +2

      1) I agree lol. 2) I agree once again 3) It's like working out. Warming up is the preparation stage. At the end of a workout, your body doesn't perform as well as it would at the beginning. Her performance here follows the same principle. Let It Go was her last song of the concert, and it would make sense that her vocals are not at her strongest, especially using most of her energy on Defying Gravity. That's what I meant. 4) Stars are open to criticism in EVERY aspect of their life. Do you suppose that if she opens a concert, she shouldn't sing Let It Go or Defying Gravity? Yes, she could have taken safer alternatives when singing either song, but that shouldn't be an excuse to criticize her as being bad, because quite frankly she wasn't. It's evident that she has been practicing singing under pressure since her Oscars performance. She can out sing many MANY artists, and not many can sing this song as well as she can (I'm sure we all know why). Whether her singing is good or not is subjective to our own opinion. Criticism is good when done respectively, however it's not when it has negativity implied. Commenting that her singing was disappointing and bad... is it really necessary? We don't have any reason why we shouldn't criticize her, but do we have any reason for saying such negative things about her performance when it truly wasn't as bad as people think? That was where I was getting at, so perhaps we misunderstood each other. I do agree with you on many things, but having an excuse to criticize her in such manners is not one of them.

    • @thespian302
      @thespian302 10 лет назад +1

      Agreed. Until the criticizing part. While yes I agree, that she has an amazing voice and she has a better voice than a lot of stars. She does not have a better voice for the role than other broadway actresses ( I should have clarified so that is my fault). I also stand by saying her singing was disappointing, mainly if she is singing let it go I kinda expect her to be able to sing it. The final note was harsh and screamed, instead of sung. It would be like me trying to sing "valjeans soliloquy" from les mis. I am a baritone, so thats isnt an appropriate song for me to sing in concert. And if I sing it, i open myself up for critics. Just like she has. While is wasnt a horrible performance it just wasn't good, and as a performer she should know better than to sing something she isnt fit to sing anymore. But like you said, at the end of the day, it all comes down to opinions. Your thoughts were well thought out and I thank you for taking the time to express them so thoroughly.

    • @AllanHanIsKing
      @AllanHanIsKing 10 лет назад

      I appreciate your thoughts and opinions as well, so thank you for doing that. I still believe that she is able to sing it live, but it's because of the amount of pressure she receives when she does do it that limits her talent. Let It Go was one of the biggest reasons why she's so popular right now. She was popular in her broadway days as well but we can agree that Let It Go was insanely successful, and people will expect her to sing it at her concerts. I understand your point, but I don't think Idina feels the same way. I think Idina does think she can sing it live, but it's due to a collection of factors why she couldn't perform at her best during this concert and her Oscars performance. Perhaps we can agree to disagree?

    When she sang this on Jimmy Kimmel with him and The Roots she did amazing. She's a Broadway star, but she's not perfect. I love her no matter what and her voice can be amazing. It's an extremely hard song to sing. Especially when there's so much expected since it's Frozen and she played Elsa herself. People don't seem to understand that she's singing as Idina though. She's not in character.

    Ben Jatha, pointing the microphone at the audience.. is who she is and how she runs her shows. I've seen her live 3 times, and that's part of who she is... she likes to engage and interact with her audience. It's not a "cheap trick" she ALWAYS does that.. at the shows I've been to anyway. When I've seen her, she ended with Defying Gravity and let the audience sing part of it. It shows how much she loves and cares about her fans that she wants them to participate in her shows.
    She does sing songs that fit her voice perfectly. Plus Let It Go was written specifically FOR HER TO SHOW OFF HER VOCAL RANGE.
    I am a long time huge fan of Idina, and I think she did a wonderful job. Especially with it being at the end of the night.
    The 2 times I've met her, her voice has been a little scratchy, but that's just because she gives it 150% at all her shows. She gives it everything and has never let me down.. I just LOVE the way she runs her concerts. Having trouble with her earpiece...that just shows that she's human and makes mistakes. Nobody's perfect. She has stopped the show before when something's gone wrong with her earpiece or microphone when she feels it's completely necessary.
    She is a fabulous performer and obviously loves what she does. She has a Tony and has such a fabulous career.

    Sick and tired of ever since the release of Frozen, people saying that she "can't sing". As a music major in university, I can safely say that YES. SHE CAN CLEARLY SING. And extremely well at that. Idina is one of the greatest, most unique voices in the industry. She's a woman in her 40s now, so her range is not exactly what it was when she was in her 20s. That's what happens to your voice over time. ESPECIALLY if you're a performer who does vocally demanding shows 8 times a week for months on end. So what if the last note isn't perfection, it's still relatively on pitch and better than it was at the Oscars. Either way, the last note isn't the whole performance. If you listen through this entire video, she sings the rest of the song PERFECTLY and the final note is a minor detail. Everyone needs to get a grip.

    This is a much better performance than her Oscar performance. She is more comfortable here and she actually has better vocal quality here than the previously stated performance. To people saying she is flat on the High Eb Belt at the end of the song, its not that she is flat, she hit the note dead on but then it started to waver fore syncing back into the key. Though this is an excellent performance. fantastic Idina.

      she does that with the high F (last "me") at the defying gravity song too. i think its a trick she uses so the orchestra would cover up her voice as she helds the note just in case she goes off key.

    I feel like this song makes her really nervous as a performer. She's noted in interviews about how she thinks she's crazy to have wanted to perform it in the key the song is in, but did it because it fit the character more. I feel like she dreads performing this song whenever she has to, so it takes away from her performance. This song requires lots of energy, lots of breath support and precise timing. It's sped up here, just like it was on Oscars night, and it probably only makes it more difficult for her to sing. Her voice has deepened naturally, it's no secret, so she has a hard time sustaining high belted notes. She's a great talent, there's no doubt about it, I just wish she'd take better care of herself vocally! All of those forced/pushed belts are gonna harm her.

    I think what people have to realize is that let it go really is a hard song to sing! And I bet singing it live and having so many people expecting it's supposed to sound a certain way would be VERY nerve racking! Yes Idina can definitely sing and barely any one can hit that last note perfectly and I bet there was a lot of practice on the actual recording of the song and probably had many tries ( not to mention auto tune as well)

    Is it just me or does she sing this song much faster in most of her performances? I think the best one was when she did it with Jimmy Fallon. Her Oscar performance was good except that last note but she also sang the song faster than it is supposed to be. Also, every time she finishes singing Let it go, it seems like she immediately wants to get off the stage, as if she doesn't like performing it. Am I the only one who noticed this?

      It was written for her perceived range, or her range on a good day. She's still flat on the last note (not as much as usual but flat nevertheless), and would have benefited more from lowering the key even just half a step. She really needs to work on her technique or she's going to develop some nasty vocal nodules. You can't belt the way she does forever without losing your voice at some point.

    Just wave glowsticks all the time and stand during the entire concert. :)
    This video is what its all about seeing a performer live in person. Personally, I think she sang it just fine.
    If you want 100% perfection - then go see a vocaloid perform instead of a real live human being. The audience at those shows stand for the ENTIRE 2 hours and 20 minutes and never sit down.
    If this concert was on the same day as the vocaloid concert, I would go and see this instead. I would be nuts to miss any opportunity to hear this song live from the very person who (Idina Menzel) made it so special, even if she isn't singing it 100% perfectly.

    To everyone who keeps saying she should've stopped the show and fixed it. She could've sure, but being a professionally trained thespian, she's taught the show must go on no matter what. It doesn't matter what technical difficulties there are.
    All though since it was the last song of the concert... I might've done that.
    My parents watched James brown before he died and he got so ticked off with the people in the sound booth that he stopped the entire show and waited until they fixed it. Put the idiots on the spot lol

    I like this version better than the oscars one. This song is really not easy to be sung live and it was at the end of the show when her vocal cords must be really getting strained.
    Idina always sings her broadway songs really well because she belts them out day after day (DG and ASO were awesome). She might do this song better if she sings it everyday but yeah....the high F will most probably ruined her voice.

    I'm not going to lie, "Let it Go" is a pretty tough song to sing. It's on par with "The Star-Spangled Banner" in terms of vocal range, so I understand what Idina is going through as she is singing this song. But she still sounds great nonetheless!

    The song was written for her range, she has this notes, but this song is very, very hard to sing. It goes to Eb5's in the three chorus and then the big one at the end. She was very good throughout most of the performance. The first part was perfect. "the past in in the past" was very solid...

    this isnt me ripping on her personally, but i royally hate it when you go to a live performance and the singer has the audience sing certain parts instead of singing it themselves. i've been to numerous concerts, metallica, megadeth, volbeat, avenged sevenfold, blue oyster cult, and EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. did that. it's like i'm paying good money for these tickets, i don't want to hear the audience sing your songs, i want to hear YOU sing it. in fact i specifically remember metallica's singer letting the audience sing the entire refrain to master of puppets. it irritates me every time.

      No offence, but it's actually a thrill for the performer to hear an stadium full of people singing your songs. Everyone will do it, there's no avoiding it. I have gone to many shows too, Within Temptation, Amaranth, Garth Brooks, Tori Amos to name a few, and every single one I see them thrive off the audience participation, if it annoys you then I don't recommend going to shows. I do see your point you pay to hear them sing not the tone deaf person next to you.

    the monitoring is always a problem :S i agree that other singers will be able to sing this last note spot on without in-ear monitoring, but you can see that as she was singing the song she has to let the audience sing one or two phrases, and you can tell she is not enjoying this one probably because she was disappointed with the monitoring...but if i was her i would have lowered the key to play safe..

    This is her best live performance of Let it go that I have heard so far. Her live performances of the song always sound rushed, forced and strained to me. To me it seems like she puts all of her focus on the difficult parts of the song (totally understandable!) , leaving it sounding a bit emotionless. Then again, I'm no singer and I absolutely adore her nonetheless!

    I don't understand why she is singing it higher than the original. Sounds a little forced.
    I love the song and I love Idina, but this didn't sound good.

    • @NickShutts
      @NickShutts 10 лет назад +5

      Violet Manu It actually is 1 key higher than the original, because the beginning is a little too deep to sing live after a whole show, I guess. that's why she struggled with the last note. But it was still amazing

    I love idina and everyone who says that she cant sing is totally wrong .But for Willemijn did a better performance and the should have asked her to perform at the oscars .Yes this song is pretty hard to sing but she always hits every note with ease and perfection .I just think idinas Voice used to be so good but since Wicked she cant really hit high notes above the D
