A popular seafront bar in Blackpool has finally secured its future following a three-year planning battle with the council. The Terrace Bar next to Central Pier has faced the threat of closure since the discovery in 2021 that it did not have planning permission.
An application submitted in April 2021 was refused with the decision upheld on appeal. An enforcement notice was then served by Blackpool Council but was withdrawn following another appeal which was considered at a two-day planning inquiry in front of an independent planning inspector.
The Blackpool Piers Company, which operated the bar, then applied for a certificate of lawfulness for the venue which has now been agreed by the council.
A council report says “The operational development is lawful and the council has confirmed that no enforcement action will be taken against the use. As such, on balance, it is considered that the very particular circumstances of this case would fall within the ‘any other reason’ allowance set out in the wording of section 191(2) of the Act.
“A Certificate of Lawfulness should therefore be issued confirming that the development was lawful on the date of the application.”

Great vlog Paul. Sadly, councils in the UK are full of faceless wonders on a power trip. My ex was one. Her job was to approve disabled parking and dropped kerbs. She loved refusing and boasted about it. She had a disability herself which made it worse. Hence the reason why she's my ex!

Also watching, it makes you wonder what goes through the mind of some people, after all it’s not like the land near central pier can be used for anything and it makes good sense for the council and also for the pier to make something like this so people can enjoy the drink in the summer and enjoy the views which creates revenue for the council and also promotes Blackpool in general. Seven years for illegal battled to be going backwards and forwards after all personally I think it’s a great attraction for tourists and locals to have a drink or a meal and enjoy the Sun and the fantastic views overlooking the prom and the tower. When the bulbs on the stars on the Coyote Ugly bar burn out it will end up looking like google reviews. The money the terrace bar charge for drinks they can afford to maintain the pier and pay Christiano Ronaldos wages as well.

As it's outdoors, just get a carry out and put it under the pier. Then you can fish for beer! Knowing my luck, I'd catch a fish!

As you mentioned the beach in the sky was fantastic today with the sparkling Sun in the distance always brings out the great colours and the amazing views. today has been nice all day with the Sun and felt warm as it just towards the weekend I believe temperatures will start going down unfortunately sorry to hear you had rain in Berlin but I guess everyone has their fair share. good afternoon June and many thanks for your comment and also watching, yes that skipped there has been there for several months. They keep filling up emptying it filling up and emptying it. The work they are carrying out on the North pier looks like a big project they replaced many of the floorboards and other things on the pair, which is great and yes the bar is a fantastic one. Great to sit out watching life go by taking in the amazing view of the promenade and the tower. Hope you’ve had a good day and enjoy the rest of your evening. Today was fantastic in Blackpool with the weather the lovely sunshine felt like a lovely spring day however it is forecast to get a lot colder over the weekend. Very odd I’ve been hailstones.
