A new pre-poll survey by Lokniti CSDS identifies the key issues that matter to voters in Elections 2024. Unemployment is identified as the key issue that matters most to people. There are several other findings as well that might appear paradoxical- a majority of people identify their lives having improved but at the same time say corruption has increased and that it has become more difficult for development to reach all classes. To understand and decode the political meaning of this survey Barkha Dutt speaks to Sanjay Kumar of CSDS.

Congress wants to go back to their good old "freebies" promises. There are some people who still believe in this (Delhi, Punjab and Karnatka) but once they get it they will soon realise that it just gives temporary relief. Teaching people how to fish (which is tougher initially) is better than giving one fish a day as a freebie.

Indians and other developing countries look down on people like plumbers (B is silent when pronunciation) or electricians or road sweepers bin collectors as somehow sub-human. Fact is everyone must be treated with respect as the bin men and road sweepers keep out streets clean and make our lives better. 2. Barkha, please do not confuse viewers simply because you cannot interpret data accurately.
    3. People's opinion on development being biased towards the "Pro rich" is not capitalized by opposition because it has no credibility.
    4. Interestingly. corruption as perceived by common people stays as very high (70+ %) in spite of the digital governance that has greatly impacted the citizen government interface. This question should be further investigated to identify the services for which they had to pay bribes or use an influencer, or they simply saw corruption? Will CSDS do something? My guess and suggestion are to take a look at corruption in real estate related offices and RTO offices primarily.

This will makes the people peacefully practice their faith and focus on things that matter. Also provide benefits only to families that have less than 3 children. Also all public sector jobs , 100%, are only for those who are poor and are unemployed. 50% should be exclusively for women.

Where is infrastructure development issues!!! These are the most important issues which are in favour of government as success. Ram mandir and hindutva is not a big issues but researchers avoid these important issues which are more important in this digital era. People are aware of the success of government in these fields. Opposition rightly highlights problems of Unemployment ,Inequality Price Rise etc. It is however difficult for people to believe the opposition has any concrete schemes to address these issues within a time frame. It is important to go for a well planned job oriented education system making people skilled enough to get jobs . People should become job providers and not necessarily job seekers People seem to be having confidence ,rightly or wrongly, that NDA is capable of addressing these issues by having short term and long turn vision ( even upto 2047 ! )
It is better to have milestones for achievements even they are slipped.
People also look for a strong country commanding world wise honour and respect .
Those who belittle the Country, its culture and heritage have no chance.
Those who purposefully undermine the pride of this nation in terms of its age - old rich multi region , multi-religion, multiculltture heritage and its time immemorial
all -inclusive nature of this great Nation have no chance.

Such surveys - results should be taken with a pinch of salt. The sequence of questions also bias the survey. Has anyone take that into account? More important question should be - current state of unemployment/inflation, who do you think can solve/address this issue best? Guess what the answer would be.

It's unfortunate barkha a paid agent of India alliance is silent on the corruption of kujriwal.

  • @vishalgupta86

Opposition Is concerned about their own ilk, which translates into the Save Democracy narrative. Jobs are a primary issue, but it is so big that it cannot be resolved in a generation. Why generation? There are three essentials for full employment. We need infrastructure, which is in progress, but it will take another decade to catch up to China's scale.
Similarly, the Manufacturing shift from China to India and from other places required the stability of the Modi government and its policies. Few companies came, and much more to come.
The third essential element is employability, which means having a degree doesn't mean you are employable. You need to have skills and experience to compete.
Overall, all these have been in working because of Modi governance; the opposition is offering completely opposite communist nightmare policies which will destroy whatever we have.

So true. Am Indian born and educated but chose to live in the West. Yes the breeding factories in the UP with a population the size of Pakistan and other states must be prioritised by stricter Birth control measures. The landmass has shrunk and its resources depleted. It is not rocket science 2+children = poverty lack of jobs houses sanitation food etc.

Going from social media any anger is not translated into action as far as unemployment goes. People will pay agents or traffickers to work in war zones but not riot or protest in India . Corruption is almost natural default so look for illegal routes to the West

It all depends on the raw data, the methodology used to arrive for the conclusion. If there are open ended questions without any context, obviously you will get different results set which you can skew to your political lenses/biases. If you ask questions about unemployability to people who are not educated, or rather did not skill develop, then in this competitive environment, you will be unemployed forever. Also, he might not have asked or looked for Entrepreneurship data meaning many people now a days are their own boss, they work for themselves... he might not have looked into it. India w/140 crores population, taking a sample size of 10K and extrapolating across nation is purely a BS Survey. These folks including bdutt desperately want some issues to corner BJP/MODI -

    4. lots of corporate corruption
Still BJP did poorly in election and Congress improved its seat tally.
