    Several great ideas, especially the arm chair travel journal and the Polaroid pic idea. I use magazines a lot and love it. A little hint when gluing and avoiding air bubbles : glue, and then take wax paper, place over glued magazine pic and smooth down with an old credit card. It gets rid of any bubbles and doesn’t put wear and tear on that pic. Work from the center out. It always works! Carol from California

      Ahh thank you so much! That tip with the wax paper is gold. I usually try to get bubbles out with the bone folder from the center out but a lot of times it “weathers” or cuts the fragile magazine paper. Can’t wait to try with the wax paper and credit card. You’re the best!!

And I know magazines are getting more expensive… one of the thrift stores near me has them sometimes. Friends, family? Doctors office?.. If your thrift store doesn’t carry them, maybe look and see if they have heavily illustrated books. I often do many of the same kinds of projects using those which many thrift stores have and sometimes libraries are looking to get rid of for next to nothing.. I hope that helps… I know it can be challenging to get your hands on them sometimes. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment 😊

      @InkandPapyrus  2 месяца назад

      Of course, thanks so much for watching!! I’ve gotten so many good questions, I think I will need to do another magazine video soon. The best advice I can give you is always secure the magazine images with glue stick…never wet glue which always seams to cause wrinkling. Once I put my images down, I often will go over them gently with a bone folder. Start from the center and work your way out. That usually works keeping the wrinkles at bay. Sometimes it happens no matter what in which case I’ll sew over part of the image or put down a couple decorations to Hide the bubbling. If things really get out of control, I’ll just embrace it and take my daubber out, and ink over the wrinkles for a very nice vintage, distressed look :) I hope that helps!

    • @InkandPapyrus
      @InkandPapyrus  2 месяца назад +2

      Oh man. Note to self… no spray glue lol! The best results I’ve had so far are with glue stick by itself. Wet glue always seems to wrinkle the paper. Work out any wrinkles and bubbles from the center. I’ve always done this with a bone folder, but you have to be very careful not to knick and “weather” the image if this is not the look you are going for. One sub said they put down wax paper over the image first and then work out wrinkles with a credit card. I can’t wait to try this… I bet this would work great!

    Lots of great ideas, thanks! I'd like to recommend maybe not using plain white copy paper as background, for a vintage look, use old book pages from charity shop, or for a modern look, use other parts of magazine for backgrounds, painted pages or scrapbook paper.
    Inking round edges of everything really gives it a better look overall, it hides any missed bits and the edge of the paper.
    Also, it's worth picking up some cheap letter /number stamps, for titles, quotes etc. Amazon have many.
    Tearing edges can give a fabulous look, especially for vintage/rustic vibes 😊💜

    You could emboss that wrinkled air-bubbled image and layer it up on a journal cover!
    Use a busy patterned embossing folder, one with small details all over the entire surface and it will completely smoosh out the paper and mask the bubbles within the pattern.
    Alternatively you could pierce each bubble discreetly with a sharp pin, and run it through a laminator over and over, or iron it, to gradually push the air out of the holes. The picture will ever so slightly overlap in tiny places but it will be flat.
    Stencil over it with texture paste to create more dimension, to blend and work with the bubbles. Or go for a combination of all of these to really make it mixed media in texture...
    Bubbles??? What Bubbles??? Oh THOSE Bubbles! Haha Silly Billy, they are part of my creative design! 😄
    EDIT*** I just thought of something...have you discovered the absolute joy, that is Clear (translucent) Gesso? I love it for brushing over shiny surfaces to give a TRULY matte finish. It's not like matte Mod Podge or similar glues, that despite being matte, still have a sheen, albeit less glossy. It has a granular almost sandy grit to it, exactly like gesso, but dries clear. I just thought of that seeing as you like working with magazine images, but some styles of journals such as vintage or grungy don't necessarily work with shiny magazine images. But it would make your magazine ephemera even MORE versatile! A little goes a long way, and it allows ink to be used for aging or layering, as it grips to the texture better than it does on glossy paper. Just something I thought of! 😁
    I can't shut up! 😳 Sorry! 😂 But I love the accordion fold location bucket list idea! Imagine making lots of those and binding them together! Cool.

    • @InkandPapyrus
      @InkandPapyrus  2 месяца назад +1

      Oh my gosh!! all of these phenomenal suggestions had me wanting to go back to my craft desk, pull those magazines out and do this all over again... Embossing those bubbles... YES PLEASE! Hello texture- LOVE THIS! Texture paste too... going on the list.
      And yes, I have to get myself some clear gesso!! My white gesso is too opaque and not getting the job done. Bet this would work so much better than mod podge too. Especially when it comes to being able to paint on the magazine images. Sometimes I make paper dolls and instead of making them clothes with other fabric or papers, I like to paint them on. Gesso would be wonderful for this. I didn't know that gesso came in other colors either until someone recently informed me of this. I have a couple of projects in mind using black gesso... hold that thought.....
      And please don't be sorry... I love a good tangent. Thank you for the brain dump and all of these amazing ideas. The inspiration is always so much appreciated xoxo!!

      Both sometimes! If I am looking to do a really specific project like make paper dolls, I will scour through the magazines to get the ones I want. Otherwise, I will just go through magazines and start ripping and cutting out what I like and then I store the images in a binder with those clear plastic inserts. I try to sort them by theme ie: people, words, places/travel, etc… that way I have a better chance of finding things lol

      Hi there! Definitely glue stick… wet glue will cause a lot of wrinkling. Once you get the image down, you’ll want to go over it from the center moving out to get those bubbles out. I usually do it with a bone folder. Someone else suggested using a credit card and putting wax paper over it first to protect the fragile magazine paper which is a brilliant idea.
