This is all great, but trying too hard is actually normal thing, because if a person doesn´t try too hard, he just shows, that he doesn´t care about things and this is bad. Nobody can´t be successfull without trying too hard and putting a lot of energy into something. People, who say, that trying too hard is desperate, are usually envious people, who should be ignored. Nothing more, nothing less. So keep trying hard and be a developed person you deserve to be!
Bespoke tailoring has always been expensive. Nowadays, even more so. Very sadly, only a select few are able to employ such services. As much as I like classical style and dress myself, I will never bemoan people making sound financial choices by not acquiring bespoke tailoring or formal wear at all, if there is no "need" for them to do so.

Unfortunate people just don't dress like this anymore...its a shame we have become so lazy not to care how we look.
