I was bullied as a kid and this movie inspired me to take martial arts. I practiced TKD for months to confront the leader of the bullies. The confrontation happened, I was super pumped and went into the Alex Grady stance. *POW*...one punch was all it took ...
I woke up maybe 4 mins later with a broken tooth, dislocated jaw, and was rushed to the hospital. Luckily my buddy had the foresight to place the tooth on ice and I got it fitted again. Ahh, fun times...

James Lew is one of the best Korean martial arts Taekwondo technicians and martial artists of all time. He inspired my own kicking as well having been in Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo for 41 years now. I also loved him in "The Perfect Weapon" and he is a great bad guy and stuntman as well, and can take hits really well and makes them look very realistic.

Also he knew that Tommy won that match,
so he knew that Tommy deserved his Gold Metal
More than he did so with his Honor he gave his Gold Metal too Tommy.
The next guy who dislocated Alex's shoulder, knew that that Alex won that match by a T. K. O. So he knew as well Alex deserved his Gold Metal than him.

If you watched this movie as a kid, you did one or all of the following:
    1. Picked a fight with a kid in school.
    2. As you were ready to get into it, you said in a quiet tone: "I'm gonna kick your ass"
    3. You got into that awkward fight stance Alex Grady had.
    I did all three!

I took some taekwondo classes, so if I were Alex Grady, and meet up with a taekwondo artist that can set off bone-crushing kicks and punches, here would be my strategy against this infamous Korean fighter:
    1. Use your hands to fend off the opponent's high kicks. High kicks are the mainstay of most taekwondo "free fights" (also known as "gibon kyorugi").
    2. Watch for the opponent's crippling move - the standing reverse ax-kick (or "neria chaki") to the face - it is a crippler to me and a knockout if it connects perfectly.
    3. Watch out for the opponent's spinning, roundhouse and instep kicks targeting my face - use the blocks with your hands and immediately counterrattack before that fighter does damage to me.

Also, competition TKD tends to be very direct and linear in its methodology. Using old--school circular evasions and counters can disrupt a modern TKD player's normal "script"
