Not every song has to be very technical to be good. If these are considered unoriginal lyrics, then frankly I don't think it's possible to be entirely original in music. To me, they sound very personal, raw and simple in a good way.
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. It's hard to be 100% original when writing in this mood on this subject. Think about the last time you said something cheesy to a loved one. Probably not much different than the conversations you had with whoever came before. I think what matters is that he's into it
