- Want the million dollar tones of a dumble amp but have no way of getting one? The Nux Steel Singer Overdrive is designed to emulate the tones of a dumble amp and get you into that Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Mayer touch responsive blues amp territory without having to put down 100k + on one of the illusive Dumble Overdrive Special amplifiers. Get settled in as we take the NuX Steel Singer Drive through its paces and unlock every tone you could imagine. Let's see if this one has what it takes to nail those legendary iconic tones.

I'm a quiet man so I rarely comment but I love and appreciate your videos. I have purchased pedals because of these vids! Thanks again! Peace from Canada
@@jamiejack7125 it's lovely to hear from you, I'm glad you reached out. It's very kind of you to say, thank you 👍
@@BudgetPedalChap 🎸
The NUX pedal has nothing in common with Vertex's Steel String Clean Drive, outside of the overall appearance of it. The NUX pedal has soft clipping diodes in it - the Vertex pedal uses JFET transistors and is a clean boost type of circuit - no dedicated clipping components from what I can see. The NUX pedal is apparently based on the Free The Tone SS-1V String Slinger, which is a Tube Screamer variant.
@@HammyWheeler that'd explain why so many people are comparing it to the tube screamer. Thanks for the info 👍
The question is who did Vertex rip off to make its pedal. Probably a tube screamer...
@@krastolff I've heard stories about vertex, for sure 👍
@@krastolff Vertex is snipped from the Craig Anderton book. Its two boosts in series
Another brilliant demo chappie!
@@jfiery cheers gent 👍
When you have tinnitus as bad as mine a little hiss is a nice distraction 😂. I like it, it really…. sings in your hands Budge!
@@JasonWharton82 why thank you. I'm sure you'd give it some beans too, that Strat of yours would sound great with it 👍
I know how it feels too buddy, tinnitus like a jumbo at take off many days😲💔🙄🤕
@@musoseven8218 I definitely have a bit of it going on, generally just a gentle background buzzing for me but it's only going to develop as time goes on I assume 😭😭
@@BudgetPedalChap Sadly it does - just take care💜💜Mine was made worse by a virus too🤕
@@musoseven8218 I look after my hearing much more these days, I use ear plugs when I'm gigging or going to gigs to try and preserve my hearing as much as possible
Sounds pretty good! Great demo!
@@mindcontrolledoscillator4679 cheers. Yeah I thought it sounded pretty good too 👍
I've had this pedal for some time now, it's been off and on my pedalboard so I guess I have a like/hate relationship with it, it's a tad too treble-y for my liking, so I pair it with another overdrive pedal called a Dolamo D-8 overdrive (yellow) and it give that a decent added boost for leads. If you are looking for an OD, you may want to try the Joyo Sweet Baby or just grab a tube screamer
I love the sweet baby, it's great 👍 I do like a nice TS too

@@ImprovGuitarJams aww yeah 👍
Great blues tones in that one
@@stevendavidson391 I thought so too. Very dynamic 👍
Great sounds in your hands buddy, all a bit too subtle for my playing 😲😀😀
I loved the west coast struting too, with those value for money sunglasses, that great, AA Bottom, hit😉👍✌️🤭
@@musoseven8218 such an underrated ZZ tune. The groove is sweet as molasses 😎 Cheers for the kind words my good man 👍
@@BudgetPedalChap You're most welcome, one of my favourite ZZT tracks. Their double entendre work is mighty fine too😀😀
Compare it to a Zen Drive, the Warm Audio Warm Drive one is a very faithful Zen Drive copy.
The JHS Series 3 Overdrive is also a Dumble drive pedal.
And there's 2 Tone City pedals, a mini called Durple iirc and 6 knob biggie called Big Rumble.
Andertons has better shipping prices than Thomann's, might as well pick up a couple other Tone City all stars at the same time. eBay too
@@oldasrocks9121 I've not tried many tone city pedals, I'll have to see if I can get some in 👍
@@BudgetPedalChapI've got 4 Tone City pedals. Great value and great tones
@@BudgetPedalChap I always forget you're in the UK. If I ever visit Andertons is on the itinerary. Want to see how it compares to our own Cathedral of Guitar, the Chicago Music Exchange
@@oldasrocks9121 yup I'm over here in the UK 👍 I imagine Andertons shipping will be much nicer for me 🤣🤣 I haven't visited Andertons myself, but it's on the list of things to do
Not surprisingly it sounds better with the filter at about 2. I never played a real one either. BTW, there is a vid with Robben Ford on "That pedal show" that you guys might want to check out on him Dumble and stories about the maker.
@@chrisharbin623 I've not checked out tps in a while as the episodes are too long. I'll try and dig this one out and watch it in a few sittings 👍
Sounds great.
I think so 👍
I stack this one with a DOD “ Looking Glass” for some very interesting tones …👍
Ooh, interesting. What kind of pedal is the looking glass, I'm not aware of it.
@@BudgetPedalChap the DOD looking glass is a kind of transparant overdrive that keeps your original tone intact underneath the overdrive sound..
There are multiple youtube films showing it off, so a simple search should show you what it is about…
Ha ha. I’m a boutique amp browser. Who knew?
Wear it like a badge of honour 👍🤣
Hi, how's this compared to mosky taiji?
@@waltuhhimself this definitely has less gain, the Tai Ji is a bit thicker mid range
@@BudgetPedalChap Which one is more "squishy" or maybe "saggy"?
Whatever the term is
@@waltuhhimself they're both pretty tight sounding, the tai Ji probably gets a bit more compressed so that'll feel a little more saggy
@@BudgetPedalChap Thx a lot, my bro
@@waltuhhimself anytime 👍
Is it similar to the demonfx double gun?
Similar kind of ballpark, but obviously the double gun has a little more going on
Can use to be a boost
@@paramochiex8451 yeah, I imagine it would sound pretty good boosting too. Kind of klon like
cool but noisy. at gig volume the noise is louder than the guitar. ok for home use.
@@mikeblue385 I didn't experience noise anywhere near that bad, that's really interesting. Could it have been defective maybe?
@@BudgetPedalChap maybe. the more i use it the worse it gets. back in the box it goes.
Nice go at cheap sunglasses
Gotta love a bit of ZZ top eh?
Cheap sunglasses 😎
They come in two classes I hear 👍
Stop making these videos. You make me buy pedals. :))
