I've been a devoted listener for about a year now. The amount of stories I've heard where the parents don't believe the child is ALARMING. Thank you Joel for the frequent uploads! You don't know how much it helps me get housework done lol!
Yes! I've often thought that! It really annoys me, especially when a child has said about a stranger has tried to pick them up. "Oh they were just being friendly" what?! Seriously?! I would be out that door with a knife if my child came in saying that.
I had a mom like that. Always making excuses for others & would sometimes even blame me. So I always listen, understand & believe my children. I forever want them to feel like they can come to me about anything, no matter what.
Ugh why do people in some of these stories always warn the one trying to get to them that they're going to call the police? Why can't they just call police as soon as they can with no warnings to the criminal so they won't have a heads up to get away and do this kind of thing to someone else?
1. When you're in that kind of situation your heart is pounding, you're scared, and your decisions aren't totally rational 2. In their mind the goal isn't necessarily for the perpetrator to be caught but just to be left alone.
"Hindsight is 20/20": Cause they are scared and in TRUE DANGER in their mind which is straight to survival, not methodical foresight, mode. It is suggested from law enforcement and 911 to tell them you called or are calling the police. You are doing what you can in that moment to save yourself. But yea...I also get frustrated in most stories when they warn them they called them....im like daaaamn just let them get caught!! Or get the on camera. Or take down a license plate.
What Is with people that don’t believe their children when something happens that could have been potentially traumatic to them. The “Mel’s mom” story pissed me off, she could have been taken.😒😒 Great on her for trusting her instincts, and at least grandma believed her. 🥺

I’m now 25 and a teacher and listening to you as I get ready/ work during free periods and I find that so crazy when you actually deep it! I’ve been followed before when I was driving (I’m a woman, and was about 19 at the time and was alone coming from the grocery store going back home). I knew they actually were following me because I took a bunch of random streets nobody could possibly just coincidentally follow me on. I remembered something my dad told me that saved me. He said “if you ever feel like you’re being followed NEVER go home. Go straight to a police station and park in their parking lot. Then call 911 if you need to”. So that’s what I did. I knew exactly where it was so I headed there. As soon as I pulled up to it and pulled into the driveway/parking lot. I saw in my rear view mirror the car following me suddenly stopped and then did a U-Turn, then peeled out and drove off. I waited in the police station parking lot for about 10 mins to make sure they wouldn’t come back. And then when I felt it was safe, as quickly as I legally could I went straight home. So if you’re ever followed like that drive to a police station. Know where the nearest station is when you travel or move. I do and thankfully it’s only come in handy once. But I’m thankful for my dads advice because I don’t think I would have ever thought to do that especially in a panic.
@@melissamoonchild9216 you’d think so, but taking in account that not everyone has a good parent(s) in their life to give that kind of advice it’s reasonable that a lot of people don’t know sadly.
If anyone is curious regarding the 4th story in this video set initially at SeaTac Airport & the delicious taco's they grabbed & ate while watching a soap opera in the dining room I am about 97.3% certain the restaurant they were referring to is called Aliberto's Jr Fresh Mexican Restaurant located in Burien & is less than 4 miles from the airport. So if you ever want to give some scrumptious taco's a try while also eating at a famous Let's Read destination, now you can!
i don’t think i will ever not be excited to listen to my man Joel! truly the best at what he does. been a fan for about 5 years now. really gets me through all my days! Love you!
It really makes no sense to me why the young woman in the soccer story's family didn't believe her. Such a messed up way for a family to treat such a matter in my opinion.
im a petite woman and get harrased all the time, 2 days ago a guy was secretly filming me ( hes flash was on) while i was having lunch with my father, my father refused to believe me as always :)
Insane this went on Lets Read! The third story happened in Moorsel indeed. A quiet Flemish (Belgian) village right next to the village i grew up in, Meldert. I took the bicycle daily trough Moorsel and had to pass the murder house which was on my way to school. I was 7y old when the murder happened, to young to realize what horror occurred in there so i only learned about it a few years later when i tried to peek trough a window of that weird closed-off house then my parents explained it... absolutely chilling. Btw, i didn't write/upload this story to Lets Read, i just happen to be a coincidental neighbor.
This is what I do when I use a rest stop at night: Even though there is nobody with me I very loudly talk and say something like, "John, tell Bob I am in here- will be out in a minute. Buy me a diet coke, ok?" ...Then I check under the stalls. There have been a few times when I just roll by the place if I see some questionable types inside.
As bothered as I am by kids who don't tell their parents suspicious or dangerous situations......it's infuriating when a kid DOES and the parents/adults don't care or act. if your kid is not known to be a liar why would you not believe her when she tells you a strange woman tried to abduct her?
Tagging a potential victim's vehicle or house is an urban legend. If you think about it for more than a second or two, you'll see the numerous reasons that it makes absolutely no sense to do something like that.
Yup. It’s also extremely rare that a random adult is abducted from a public place for human trafficking. But people seem obsessed with human trafficking these days because of that dumb ass QAnon crap.

That cult meeting was definitely gonna end in some kind of human sacrifice of "the male" after a few meetings, or at least that's what over a decade of horror movie viewing tells me.
It sounds a bit like Annie Hamilton-Byrne and “The Family” (a cult from Australia in the 70s). Essentially, they seek out a male to impregnate a group of women. The male essentially has no rights to the kids, and are just paid to father the children. That is his only role (you will see why in a second). The followers (female members), gift their children to the leader. It’s a mix of child exploitation, selective “breeding”, and preying on vulnerable women. In the case of Annie-Hamilton-Byrne, she adopted all of the children, and collected money off of them.

Yeah it always amazes me that so many stories are like this. Like why give them the potential to just run away Scot free?
Some people have had bad experiences with police or just don't want to deal with them for whatever reason.
1. When you're in that kind of situation your heart is pounding, you're scared, and your decisions aren't totally rational
2. In their mind the goal isn't necessarily for the perpetrator to be caught but just to be left alone.
It's mostly to make the person leave them alone. Safety first
