- A look into our archives with this video of the Oscar de la Renta Spring 1992 runway show and an excerpt from its review in the New York Times.
"His show Wednesday afternoon was as crowded as all the others and brought the usual bursts of applause. The designer was greeted with predictable enthusiasm as he took his obligatory walk down the runway with his models at the end. In short, de la Renta is accepted. His best clothes were the kind usually called American: clean, neat and not overwrought. They were well received because there hasn't been too much of this sort of thing on the runway here. The opening scene was all white linen, including shirts, dresses and suits. Last season, he made a splash with his tartan plaids. He followed this time with madras. A few inches of narrow madras skirts showed beneath the long white jackets. Suits made entirely of madras looked smart in pale shades of green with pink or blue with white. To carry out the Caribbean theme he set for himself in this collection, de la Renta wrapped the models' heads in turbans or gave them planter's hats. Among his experiments with longer hemlines were narrow skirts with button fronts that didn't button below the hips. A great white shirtdress with big patch pockets also proved that longer day clothes can be smart."

@@ta-fo4iy At the beginning she knew nothing about modelling but in an interview she told that it has became à passion. And she worked a lot for that presence ! She knew what she was doing, a pure master on the runway !

Yasmeen @8:59 is an absolute goddess! 1992 was her year, and she was on par with the other Canadian supermodel Linda Evangelista. Best turn with hair-flip and serving-face ever!

whomever is the designer now for this collection has made the brand so unrecognizable it's not even funny. when I saw the 1st collection after his passing...I couldn't even tell it was ODLR. the sophistication, elegance, polish, and beauty were gone. I could instantly tell that the executives (the son-in-law namely) wanted to go after a younger customer, but I guess he didn't realize that a younger women was already wearing ODLR. the company tried to do/recreate what Gucci did in the 90s with Tom Ford, and sadly got it all wrong. they should've hired designer Adam Lippes (who learned under Oscar, the same way Oscar learned under Balenciaga) to design the collection. but hey, what do I know.
...he "ODLR" was still the designer for this spring collection.

Honestly the day that fashion show happened it was destined that Karen Mulder would steal the spotlight. Naomi might still be relevant today, Linda might have been the highest paid model but that spotlight was literally stolen my Karen. Literally look at her at 15:09. How can you disagree with that?

too bad that this really was Yasmeen's show. at 23:23 when she comes out in the black dress, Yasmeen erases the other 6 super models (karen included) from the rumway not forgetting that those 6 are wearing extra colorful outfits.

I worked in a department store for several years. A Latino Guy ( Honduran) in Phoenix, Arizona! I have learned about the "big" money models over the years!
Veronica Webb, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelists, Louise Vyent.
Some other big names: Sonia Cole, Tyra Banks, Helena Christensen, Naomi Campbell Dalma Callado, Amalia Vairelle , Iman ( many years ago). These women dominated the runaways!
Yasmeen Ghauri was a top name, but I thought she was spoiled ,because she was so exotic and beautiful!

I think the other way around. I like the fact that Tyra didn't overdo her walk. This show was broken into sections to present different segments of the collection, and a lot of it required paired walking. I like how Tyra toned it down, and not try to be so individualistic. She complimented and blended quite well with the other models, looking in synch. The runway should be about advertising the clothes, and portraying the character woman of the collection. Not promoting your individual personality.
